I like this kid too and, if I'm to believe that UT coach's comment in the SA article Harry posted, Vizza's starting to pop up on recruiting lists all over D-1A schools.

Dodge's Collection Of All-state Players Grows
gangrene replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't overly excited about all this great recruiting news...it sure beats the hell out of the stealth recruiting tactics. But I do have to say I am still a little skeptical about the quality of the prospects we're getting. That sentence voices some of my same concerns. I have no doubt that TD can recognize and evaluate talent on a high school level and there's no doubt that our verbals had great HS careers, but I'm still not seeing a single DMN Area Top 100 recruit that's committed to UNT (yes Bradley Haynes and Jordan Scoggins have expressed interest). I know these lists are subjective, but am I to believe that every other D-1A school is blind to the players we've attracted? Don't they all have talent scouts that are paid to recruit the best HS talent too? That question has already crossed my mind several times in the last week. Let's hope the correct answer is high school production. Yes, I'm a little bothered but I'm not sure it's about our recruits not getting their proper respect. Good blog Vito! -

I like that stadium too, it feels all warm and cozy and it's capacity is about 45,000. -

Yes, that scenery would be awesome. Maybe we can get Mark Cuban to fund the mountain range construction? Although I'd opt for one of the New Mexico or Colorado peaks, instead of the ones in Arizona. -
Thanks. Yes, I read everything there and I know the "answer" but I was actually wanting to read the rest of that article. It's pretty cool to see an article mentioning UNT listed on the main recruiting page of rivals for once!
-
Anyone have full access to Rivals? There's a headline on the main recruiting page, "Buchanan talks about UNT rumors." And the story starts off with this: January 12, 2007 John Talman Recruiting Analyst Word spread Thursday evening that Gilmer, Texas linebacker Dominique Buchanan had made a commitment to North Texas. That's not the case, at least as of yet.

He wasn't on Rivals list of Baylor commits: http://www.rivals.com/commitlist.asp?Year=2007&School=8

I just read the same thing on the killerfrogs website (was reading about their reaction to the Gary Patterson to Minnesota rumor): http://www.killerfrogs.com/msgboard/index....showtopic=65185

Yeah, it looks like Brett Vito has been reading GMG again: January 11, 2007 McElroy staying at Alabama Former Southlake Carroll quarterback Greg McElroy put to rest the rumors that he is considering transferring from Alabama to North Texas to play for his former high school coach Todd Dodge on Thursday. McElroy told The Dallas Morning News that he staying put. Dodge said when he was hired at UNT that he would evaluate the quarterbacks he has on the team before considering taking on a transfer or junior college player. As of now, the battle in spring practice appears as if it will be between Woody Wilson, Daniel Meager and Matt Phillips. Posted by Brett Vito at 05:41 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

This thread...

I prefer to think of it as maybe all three want to stick together and go to the same school.

Hmmm...wonder how much he'd get if we got invited to CUSA???
-
LOL but only until February, unless of course, it gets extended...

I'm not sure I understand Rivals either. I was looking at the National Top 100 and the State Top 100 lists (both of which were compiled by Rivals) in yesterday's DMN. I zoned in on a couple of UT commits (mainly because one of them, listed as an "athlete", played WR in an All-Star game but vows he'll play QB at Texas). Anyway, Curtis Brown, a DB from Gilmer, is listed as the state's #4 overall recruit, whereas John Chiles, "athlete" from Mansfield Summit, is listed as the #3 overall recruit in Texas. Compare that to Brown being ranked #9 in the NATION and Chiles falls to #16 nationally. How does that make sense???

Sam Mills was pretty good too, and I believe he was listed as 5'9", which means he was probably shorter than that.

Dodge Hires 7th Football Assistant Coach
gangrene replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Plumm, I'm convinced you are a relative of Hayden Fry! I can't count how many times I've been reading threads, without really paying attention to who posted what, when I come across a Hayden Fry reference; 99 times out of 100 those posts are made by PummMeanGreen! I, too, am excited about all the announcements at UNT. I've already voiced my concerns about hiring too many former HS coaches, so it's nice to see another coach with collegiate coaching experience. I'm curious though what the delay is in completing the staff on the offensive side of the ball. I think it would be important to hire the O-staff and start educating them on TD's offense so they can help recruit the right kind of players. -
Why all the negativity? This can be nothing but good news for the Mean Green. I'm excited to receive our first SLC commit and hope it's only the first of many yet to come. We've always recruited athletes that were considered too small or lacking the talent for D-1A competition and we've found several diamonds in the rough. One thing this kid knows how to do is WIN and if we're going to continue to recruit players that other schools don't value (and I think that will change in a few years), I would much rather take someone who knows how to win and who is a complete stranger to losing. Oh, and screw SMU...who cares what they think???
-
Speaking of size, did you see that kid from Red Oak (listed in the Scout.com list)? It says Anthony Hamm, OL, is 6'5.5", 359 lbs.
-
Brian Mead RB 5-6 145 Clovis, NM RB #244 63 Hmmm... I've seen successful RBs at 5'6, but he needs to add a LOT of weight.

Got it, thanks!!!

Nope, he's actually from Pottsville, PA. http://stanford.rivals.com/commitlist.asp

I guess I haven't been added yet? Please add me when you can and thanks for all the hard work...us mean green junkies really appreciate it!!!

http://texasfootball.com/index.php?s=&..._article_id=239 Interesting to note; Baylor, Tech and OU already have a class of 2008 commitment. I hope that coversations between TD and Tre Newton have "unofficially" taken place already. I think it's a given that such discussions between Riley and TD have already occurred.
