  1. You hate to lose promising players for any reason, but academic casualties are ones that I dislike most (excluding criminal problems) because it generally shows a lack of commitment to what really matters most to these kids. Let's face it, not many UNT football players are going to make a living playing football and this is their chance to earn a free education and, hopefully, get a better job. I'm not really surprised by three that may not be back due to "other" reasons. Those reasons could be anything and I don't care to speculate either but I will say it's not all that uncommon for players to leave a team when coaching changes are made, especially when the new (coaching) mindset is so different from the old mindset.
  2. Good job Vito! Thanks for reassuring those that needed reassurance. Personally, I wasn't worried at all!
  3. That, or they're working out the terms of the auto lease! JOKE, JOKE, JOKE
  4. Two slots left on the bottom of the recruiting log. Does that mean they are expecting two more signees (excluding Cam Montgomery because he already signed an LOI)?
  5. That means that there's a problem with Vizza, but they're working it out. Think good thoughts!
  6. I think meangreensports.com may have trumped all other Texas universities with the recruiting blog idea. I found a link to it on the DMN site and no other schools are mentioned having anything similar to provide almost instant updates (never mind the fact that he calls us Boise State). PLUMM....have you been talking to Mr. McMahon about how you want UNT to emulate Boise State again??? Kudos to the UNT athletic department! http://recruitingblog.dallasnews.com/ Carroll kids get faxes in first Southlake Carroll LB Justin Padron and DE Kyle Russo must be excited about continuing to play for coach Todd Dodge. They were the first North Texas recruits to fax their letters of intent this morning. For more on The Next Boise State's recruiting class, check out the Mean Green athletic department's recruiting blog (is an actual link on Tim McMahon's blog). Also, it looks like we're going to have one hell of women's soccer recruiting class....did TD help out on that too???
  7. I don't see Taylor Insall listed either. I guess that answers our question of whether or not TD offered a DD recruit??
  8. Green/White game is on a Sunday (April 22)! I'll be able to make it this year.
  9. Catherine Pollack from Denton will be joining the team in the fall of 2007. It looks like head coach John Hedlund is continuing to recruit the top talent in the Metroplex. Catherine Pollock, Defender, Denton, Texas (Denton High School) She is one of the best defenders in the metroplex. As a freshman she was named the District 8-4A Freshman of the Year. Pollock was named all-state, all-region, and all-county as a freshman. She was a member of the 2004 Denton High School team that won the Class 4A State title. Pollock plays for the club team D’Feeters ‘89, which is ranked 36th nationally and 6th regionally. Damn, I got scared for a second. I thought we were trying to pull an Unnecessary Roughness and a sign a female soccer player to kick for us. Whew...gotta let myself calm down now.
  10. Plumm, nothing you post is ever "pretty plain that most would understand it", even your signature needs interpretation. Here I was trying to agree with on something and you want to argue about it. My fictitious dialogue was between Darrell Dickey and the recruit, Robert Hill not between Dodge and Dickey. It revolved around how I imagine Dickey would bash UNT and TD for not recruiting him and might view recruiting an SLC kid as revenge. Those were totally my own thoughts - not yours. And I hope you're not putting me in the category of those who wanted Dickey ball to continue for another two or three years???? In fact, I was just the opposite. I still remember YOU accusing me of being a troll, and having ulterior motives, when I was calling for Dickey's head TWO seasons ago, in the midst of a 2-9 season. And FYI - I've been following UNT football for 29+ years, so I know all about the roller coaster rides. You are a tough person to understand...maybe reading this book will help me and others to be more sensitive and understanding of your feelings whenever we post:
  11. That's pretty much the same thought that crossed my mind. I'd guess the conversation went something like this: DD: Why aren't you going to UNT to play for Coach Dodge? RH: Coach Dodge informed me that they don't have any scholarships left to give. DD: Coach Dodge is full of %*^#. I know exactly how many scholarships they have and he could have offered you one if he thought you were good enough. Coach Dodge might not want you but we'd love to have you up here at Utah State. Not sure wth you are talking about there. An outsider would read that comment and interpret it as us hiring a high school coaching staff and, therefore, we could expect a high school athletic program and a high schoolish look!?!?
  12. http://dfwvarsity.star-telegram.com/FootBa.../Recruiting.asp Hill commits Posted: Saturday, February 03, 2007 Carroll offensive lineman Robert Hill has committed to Utah State. Hill said he liked the coaches, and the work being done to upgrade the facilities. Hill chose Utah State over Louisana-Monroe, Penn, Dartmouth and Georgetown. For those keeping track, that gives Carroll six players who have made commitments. The others: Justin Padron (UNT), Kyle Russo (UNT), Anthony Ford (Georgetown), Arius Ford (Georgetown), Bryce Saldi (UNLV). — Trae Thompson Here is some news on some other guys we were recruiting. Farley commits Posted: Sunday, February 04, 2007 Keller quarterback Cal Farley has committed to Penn. Farley visited Penn, Brown and North Texas. — Trae Thompson Johnson picks Tulsa Posted: Sunday, February 04, 2007 South Grand Prairie wide receiver Trae Johnson (5-11, 175) committed to Tulsa. "It was a no-brainer," Johnson said. "Me and the coaches clicked." Johnson said he'd been looking at Tulsa for two years, and most of his mother's family still lives in the area. Johnson admitted the recruiting process got nervewracking near the end. "But I knew they'd come through," Johnson said. "Tulsa had been interested in me for two weeks, and I knew they'd come with it." — Trae Thompson
  13. Coach West and TD may be good friends, but that's FAR from an indicator we'll get first shot at any Brenham players. I don't know a lot about Ealey but I do know that he was (at best) about the 5th or 6th best player on that team this year (and I'm not saying he's not a good pick up for us). Brenham has several Rivals state Top 100 players and BCS commitments: #21. TE Ahmard Howard - committed to Texas #25. QB Jarrett Lee - committed to LSU #39. ATH Brandon Collin - committed to Texas #89. DB Shawn Sullivan - committed to Nebraska Other Brenham notables FWST State Top 100 WR Justin Daniels - committed to Houston Top underclassmen, per DCTF JR RB/DL Ryan Roberson, 6', 200 SO RB/DL Markevious Franklin, 5'11", 248 SO DL Dayrion Broadnax, 5'9", 251
  14. As I read that article, I was thinking the same thing Emmitt.

  16. Can anyone explain to me how the University of Dirt can convince a kid to leave paradise (in the US I might add) to live in the tumbleweed-infested city of Lubbock?? (Apologies to all of you West Texas Eagles ) My brother went to Tech and I visited him several times but, if I stayed more than two days I would get sick...allergies I guess. texasfootball.com In other recruiting news today: -- Texas Tech took in two out-of-state commitments: DL/LB Sam Fehoko of Honolulu (Hawaii) Farrington, a previous San Diego State commitment, and RB Aaron Crawford of Memphis (Tenn.) Ridgeway; -- UNLV pledged Southlake Carroll DE Bryce Saldi; -- Wallace Franklin, a Beaumont Ozen grad who payed juco the last two seasons, has pledged to Iowa State. That poor kid is in for a rude awakening.
  17. Wonder what DD thinks of Utah State's 2009 game at Texas A & M?? Wonder if he'll even still be the OC there?? Nah, I don't really care, but some of you DD haters might...the real point I want to make regarding this thread is at the bottom. DMN Aggies schedules Aggies release 2007, '08 football schedules 12:49 AM CST on Thursday, February 1, 2007 By RACHEL COHEN / The Dallas Morning News COLLEGE STATION, Texas – A&M released its schedules for 2007 and '08 and announced three nonconference games for '09. That season, the Aggies will host New Mexico on Sept. 5 and Utah State on Sept. 19 and play at Louisiana Tech on Sept. 12. 2007 Sept. 1 Montana State Sept. 8 Fresno State Sept. 15 La.-Monroe Sept. 20 at Miami Sept. 29 Baylor Oct. 6 Oklahoma St. Oct. 13 at Texas Tech Oct. 20 at Nebraska Oct. 27 Kansas Nov. 3 at Oklahoma Nov. 10 at Missouri Nov. 23 Texas 2008 Aug. 30 Arkansas St. Sept. 6 at New Mexico Sept. 20 Miami Sept. 27 Army Oct. 4 at Oklahoma St. Oct. 11 Kansas State Oct. 18 Texas Tech Oct. 25 at Iowa State Nov. 1 Colorado Nov. 8 Oklahoma Nov. 15 at Baylor Nov. 28 at Texas I know scheduling can be a bit more complex at UNT than it is Texas or A & M because we're, more or less, at the mercy of some of our opponents, but is it too much to ask for partial future schedules to be issued?? UT already has already posted future schedules through 2015. It sure would be nice if we had our schedule posted on the official site earlier than July or August...whenever it was posted last year. That might give more people an opportunity to make proper arrangements with their employers to take time off for traveling. I don't care if the schedule isn't 100% accurate or if a couple of weeks and game times are listed as TBD.
  18. Thanks for the link on J.J. Johnson. Maybe we should post a thread on the main board about emailing rivals to have more UNT info included? MTSU has their own page and so does FAU and both are easy to access by the drop-down menu on the home page. We helped Caris win the Athlon contest, surely we can make some headway with rivals?
  19. Well, I can't say for certain but maybe, just maybe, my email produced some results. I emailed the publisher this morning about Vizza, Martinson, JJ Johnson and Marquese Davis. Martinson is a rivals 2* recruit but Johnson and Davis aren't even listed in their prospect database. Let's see if any of those three appear tomorrow or Thursday. I also requested UNT and the SBC to be included on the main page drop down menus, but I won't hold my breath on that happening.
  20. This is like picking your favorite child! While I agree that Booger was a HUGE impact player (pun intended), I also think he had a better cast to assist him. Johnny Quinn, on the other hand, produced nearly every game in almost impossible circumstances; a run-dominated offense and a plethora of different QBs. Therefore, JQ gets my vote.
  21. Call me easy, but I'm just as excited to see UNT actually printed in prospect's consideration lists and not having to wait until national signing day to see who we were recruiting....that stealth method was just silly, anti-social behavior. The open (and normal) way of recruiting allows recruits, fans and alumni to get involved and get excited about the program. I can't even recall how many times I've read something about a player considering XYZ school because his teammate or another player that he admires is considering that school too.
  22. He's an offensive lineman (T) listed in Houston Chronicle's Area Top 100. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/hso/4407346.html Do you have a link to the story?
  23. Would we even have room if they did?? http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=635484 January 29, 2007 Army coach Bobby Ross retires WEST POINT, N.Y. — Bobby Ross retired Monday as Army's football coach, and without a victory over Navy in his three seasons with the Black Knights. The former NFL coach, who had a 9-25 record at Army, will be succeeded by offensive line coach Stan Brock. "I think there's a point in time when you feel like it's your time to retire, and I think I've reached that time," the 70-year-old Ross said in a statement. "I think there is an issue of having a certain degree of energy, which I feel is very important for anyone leading a college football program. I feel that I was lacking in that area." Bobby Ross retired Monday after three seasons at Army. Army athletic director Kevin Anderson said Ross told him of his decision on Thursday night. "He came back from a recruiting trip and had to go home because he was ill," Anderson said. "He looked at me in the eye and said, 'I can't give the energy.' He didn't want to shortchange the academy or the cadets." The 48-year-old Brock, who played for Ross on the 1995 San Diego Chargers team that reached the Super Bowl, said he was surprised, even though he and Ross had talked about the future. "He knew it was my ultimate goal, but the timing was a shock," said Brock, who has never been a head coach at the Division I level but had five years of head coaching experience in the Arena Football League before coming to West Point with Ross. "I thought coach was going to be here." Ross came out of retirement to coach a team that had been on a 15-game losing streak and was the first in NCAA history to finish a season 0-13 (2003). Speculation that Ross might leave began shortly after Army's 26-14 loss to the Midshipmen in December. The Black Knights finished the season on a six-game losing streak. Ross' son, Kevin, the offensive coordinator, took much of the blame for the Black Knights' sputtering offense. Before his arrival at West Point, Ross was 77-68 in the NFL with the Chargers and Detroit Lions and spent 15 years as a college coach, including stints with The Citadel (1973-77), Maryland (1982-86) and Georgia Tech (1987-91). His 1990 Georgia Tech team went 11-0-1, sharing the national title with Colorado. His college record was 94-76-2 before he accepted the Army job. Ross, a Virginia Military Institute graduate, hoped to duplicate what he had done at Georgia Tech in the late 1980s. And after two seasons of improvement - Ross had nearly the same record at Army (6-16) as he did at Georgia Tech (5-17) - he seemed to be right on track. But Georgia Tech went 7-4 in Ross's third year and was co-national champion with an 11-0-1 mark the next season (1990). Ross's third year at West Point started at 3-3, but the Black Knights lost their last six games by an average of 20 points. Still, there have been signs of progress. Army won seven of its last 17 games under Ross, and nine of the last 16 losses have been by 14 points or less. In the three seasons (2001-03) that preceded Ross's arrival, Army was 4-32, suffering those 32 losses by an average of 21.6 points. "Coach Ross has improved our program dramatically," Anderson said. "I know that he's having a hard time leaving because he feels he has the program where he wants it. It was hard for him to walk away." Despite his workaholic ways - Ross said he took off only six days last summer - the coach never accomplished his first goal of winning the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy, given each year to the winner of the round-robin format between the three service academies. Ross went 0-3 against Navy and 1-2 against Air Force. The loss to Navy came on the heels of an embarrassing 43-7 loss to Air Force at Michie Stadium in the final home game of the season.
  24. What's up with the fonts on the thread titles?? Instead of the intended abreviation of defensive end, it looks like I'm posting that Saldi had previously committed to UNLV and is now de-committing...almost suggesting that we should go after him Oh well...
