  1. That sounds right. From what I understand, that (to graduate in December and attend college in the spring) has been his plan all along.
  2. Here's a post from one UT fan at InsideTexas.com UTGrad91 Member 873 posts this site Send Private Message Posted on 6/30/2007 8:39 AM Re: Decommitment I also think this is a win win situation. Dodge would have been a career backup at UT whether at qb or db or wherever. At UNT he will likely be the man at qb. UT will have the chance now to replace his scholie with someone who could be a bigger contributor to the team. If Newton decides to go to UNT as well I don't see that as a big loss either. He's good and it would be nice to sign him but he's not special and we could easily replace him with a RB of like ability or better either in this class or 2009. And, here's a similar comment from a UT fan at hornfans.com oraclehorn 100+ posts 06/30/07 12:55 AM Re: Dodge to UNT? [re: RomaVicta] Newton is looking to follow, which i don't think hurts Texas near as much as some would say. Also, Dodge had no real shot to play DB or WR for Texas.
  3. Recently, SLC has developed quite a factory for producing quality collegiate QBs. The 5A state offensive player of the year has gone to Carroll quarterbacks the last five years. In 2002, Chase Wasson (TexState) won it. Chase Daniel (Mizzou) won it in '03 and '04. Greg McElroy (Alabama) won it in '05 and Riley Dodge won it last year. So....you might wonder...who's waiting in the wings to replace to Riley?? Well, one projected replacement for Riley Dodge at SLC is Junior QB, Kyle Padron (6'4", 190 lbs) who threw for 26 TDs at the JV level (5 in one game against Rockwall). I haven't seen him play yet but he definitely has D 1-A size and, if I'm not mistaken, he'll have several reasons to follow the SLC bandwagon to UNT; Todd Dodge, the SLC coaching staff and several SLC teammates including....his brother Justin??? A couple of other SLC QBs who could beat out Padron are Kyle Williamson, whom I've heard looks a lot like McElroy, or Tanner Toal, who was SLC's 3rd string QB this year. There's also a Sophomore DL, Jackson Richards listed at 6'4", 260 in DCTF. Sophomore means he's what...15?? So, he's still a growing boy. I hardly want to limit our recruiting to SLC but, hey...when you've got a pipeline going to the high school that's been the mythical national champions two to three times and has won 46 consecutive games, why not milk it for all it's worth???!!!

    Wow

Well, I wasn't a "Dodge doubter" but I did have my hesitations because of some of the other candidates that were being interviewed, mainly Jim Harbaugh and Jimbo Fisher. As most of you know, Harbaugh took the HC job at Stanford and Fisher took the OC job at FSU. I don't know if we had a legitimate shot at hiring either one them but those were my top 3 with TD and JH being 1A and 1B, respectively. Harbaugh's done a nice job recruiting for the Cardinal by getting a good 2007 class and he now has 6 early commits for the 2008 class. He just received his latest commit this weekend. Andrew Luck, QB (6'4" 215 lbs) from Houston Stratford, is a rivals 4-star prospect and ranked #59 in the nation and #7 in Texas. Now, I think everyone will agree that it's likely a bit easier to recruit to Stanford than it is to UNT, although student-athletes must meet higher academic standards to be accepted to Stanford. In light of everything just mentioned, I wouldn't trade TD for Harbaugh or Fisher. TD has exceeded my wildest dreams with the publicity/media attention that's been generated and he's been stellar at recruiting thus far. In fact, I don't know if there's any NCAA D-1A coach that I would trade for TD right now. Do you think kids go to UT to play for Mack Brown or to don the burnt orange and play before 80K at DKR??? It's a little of both, but heavily slanted towards the opportunity to play for a big-time program and before a national audience in hopes of playing in the NFL. IMO, Mack Brown is the best recruiter in college football but, if he was hired at UNT tomorrow, I honestly don't know if he could do any better than TD has done so far. However, there's still a very, very big piece of the puzzle missing. That piece is the catalyst for the future of UNT football. That piece is called WINNING. We'll need to be successful on the football field and we'll need that success fairly quickly if we hope to retain our current oral commitments. We all know that famous footnote/escape clause that RD just took advantage of; Oral commitments are non-binding. The first day a football recruit can sign a national letter of intent is Feb. 6, 2008. I'm not doubting that the on-the-field success will come and I certainly won't say "I told you so" if it doesn't (the Phonies and other naysayers will take care of that) but our magnificent house of cards could quickly come tumbling down if we don't have a potent offense that translates to some big wins. This first season under TD is going to be very critical because the media and the recruits are going to be watching very closely...an exciting, high-scoring offense coupled with a winning season could persuade even more players to join the Mean Green whereas a few goose eggs and 8+ losses may make our currents commits re-think their decisions and scare others away. The bar has already been set and it's been set much higher than the previous regime. The high expectations are there for the coaching staff, the players and, of course, the MEAN GREEN NATION. In Todge, we believe! We can conquer any opponent at any time and at any place. I have no doubt Todd Dodge can get UNT to the place we all know we can be. ****Sorry for the long, Plumm-like post I'm more excited about UNT football than I have ever been and I felt like I was on a roll!!****
  5. Not sure if you were joking or not...so I'll answer your question. That 5.7 number you see is not his 40 time, it's his rating according to Rivals. They have his 40 time listed at 4.67, but DCTF lists it at 4.4. Rivals also has Tre' Newton listed with 4.6 speed whereas DCTF lists him with 4.4 speed.
  6. Ok, Vito finally read this thread and made his phone calls. He's confirming Riley's commitment to UNT. Here's his blog: Sources: Riley Dodge Coming to UNT ****Sorry, I got excited when I saw Vito's blog and wanted to post it ASAP. I hadn't noticed that someone had already beat me to the punch by posting it in a separate thread.****
  7. He'll probably show up as 5'10 and 158 lbs again too!?!? And this silly pony thinks there is a chance Riley will reconsider SMU: ponyfans
  8. It doesn't look like this news surprised anyone at hornfans.com either.
  9. A poster in the 5ATexasFootball site I linked is claiming that it's already been published on Rivals. However, I went to Rivals and couldn't find anything...yet.
  10. LOL...yes, I remember, but maybe we can work out a deal with "Big O' Nate" in which he'll accept food for payment???
  11. There's already a three-page thread on 5ATexasfootball.com Dodge News - Don't be surprised Now, if he just talk Tre' Newton and Blake Cantu into joining him at UNT!!!
  12. Good find DeepGreen. While I won't yet accept what someone posted on a forum as the absolute truth, I will say I saw this coming from a mile away. Even if it's not true, February 6th (I think that's the day this year) is a loooong way away. Riley going to UT to play WR or DB makes absolutely no sense. If he plays for UNT he'll have a legitimate opportunity to play QB at the D-1A level. He could probably step in tomorrow and beat out DM, WW, MP and NT simply because he knows the system better than any other player. I'll hold my excitement until verified by a reliable source (Vito, I know you'll be reading this and I'll look for confirmation on your blog). For now, I'll just imagine that the future QB battle between Vizza and Dodge (and whomever else TD might sign this year) could be very exciting.
  13. So, Emmitt, you think he might have bought that short bus from the Texas State School??
  14. I'd like to know too...obviously I wasn't able to create a poll either. However, I did see that someone was able to create one. I sort of feel like the underpriveledged!
  15. I think we'd all agree that offensive production is the #1 key to success under TD, not only in the W/L column but in the recruiting arena as well. If we average 25+ points per game, I think we can endure a few more losses and still recruit some top caliber athletes who want to play in an exciting, high scoring offense. We may even sway some prospects that have already committed to another school. However, if we lose 7-8 games and our offense is limited to an average of 14 points a game, I think recruits may begin to wonder if TD's offense can make the transition from HS to the collegiate level. How many points do you think our offense will average over the entire 2007 season?? A. 0-14 B. 15-25 C. 26-35 D. 36-45 E. 45+
  16. And the hook has been baited...now all we have to do is just sit back and wait for one to bite!!!
  17. Gotchya...I didn't read that part about the final record. I just saw your note about comparing it to what TCU did a few years ago and I'd take that in a heartbeat. TCU may have lost to SMU after upsetting OU but that was their only loss the rest of the season. Likewise, if we were able to pull off the miracle and beat OU, I don't see us going 6-6 for the season. However, even with that stipulation, I think I still take the victory over OU. One question for you...does OU go on to lose 5 or 6 games, or are we their only loss?? As it is today, OU is projected to be a Top 5 team and beating them would be monumental accomplishment. Fluke or not, it would prove that we are capable of upsetting ANYONE at ANYTIME and it would put us "on the map" with the national media and national recruits. I would much rather be trying to disprove a fluke than not have that victory at all. SMU claims that our win last season was a fluke too. Would you trade that win for a loss and an 8-4 record with an SBC title?? Then we'd still have DD running the team.
  18. You people that would prefer a win against SMU over OU....are you insane??!!!?!???? OU will be a pre-season Top 10 team and is already being picked to win the Big XII. SMU will be lucky to have a winning record. Beating OU this season could possibly be the biggest victory in the history of UNT football. Beating OU would be HUGE national attention...I'm talking the lead highlight on ESPN. Although I have little hope that it will happen, I'd take the win over OU without blinking an eye.
  19. Thanks. Any idea if practices will be open to the public?
  20. TD has done a fantastic job of holding my interest during the off-season with all the great recruiting news. But I've hit that wall to where I'm tired of reading and writing about it...I want to see some action. When does fall practice start??
  21. I am a Directv subscriber (love the NFL ticket) and I'm considering their new product "sat-go". It's not cheap at $1,499 but the monthly service charge for Directv home subscribers is just $4.99/month to get all the same channels your home service includes. Does anyone on this board have this product yet or have you seen it in person? I'm curious about the quality of the reception.
  22. There, I fixed it for you! I'm still holding out hope that I won't have to see Meager "sack" himself by tripping over his own feet or miss wide open receivers on roll-outs and 5-yard flat patterns (all things I witnessed at the Green/White game this Spring). Yes, I know he also had some decent, if not good, passes too.
  23. I'm pretty sure they have different numbers for the 7 on 7 tourney.
  24. From what I understand, this 7 on 7 tourney was played at SLC last weekend. I heard that our new verbal commit, Derek Tomlin, played in the tourney but I can't tell what number he is in these pictures. If I had to guess, I'd say he's # 16. Also, Riley Dodge (#11) is pictured several times. It looks like Riley's been hitting the weights pretty hard in the off-season. Here are the pics of SLC vs. Wichita Falls and SLC vs. Stephenville (SLC is pictured in the white jerseys.)
