I Would Like To Introduce The 2007 Mean Green Football Helmet
gangrene replied to caliuntfan's topic in Mean Green Football
For those of you wanting the award stickers: Award decals and Stock Award Choices 245 below is pretty close to the SOW IMO: -
Did anyone else notice that the North Texas helmet has "Mean Green" written on the tab at the front of the face mask? The two helmets look very similar. The only differences I see are that the colors of the stripe are reversed, the SLC helmet has a green face mask and the SLC star stickers (I certainly hope TD doesn't bring that with him from SLC).

Plumm, is everything ok?? I think that is the shortest post I have ever seen you make! SouthernMustang - that was a very objective observation. I have to agree with much of your post. I think last year's SMU-UNT game was much closer than the score indicated. The biggest factors were; 1. Turnovers 2. D. Martin's injury 3. Woody Wilson's elusiveness This year's game is anyone's guess. I give SMU the advantage because SMU will be the home team and returns a good, experienced QB and OL. UNT, on the other hand, will be starting from scratch on the offensive side of the ball and we play SMU in only the second game of the season so we may still be in the learning stages. Now, just because SMU has an edge, does not mean that I think SMU will come out victorious. It should be a great game.

I just now watched the clip and read through the comments. Apparently, these are NOT 8 or 9 year-olds. The clips of #5, Cody, are of him at age 12. I just checked Pop Warner's web site and I guess these teams could have been in one of three divisions (I'm surprised the PC police haven't made them rename a couple of divisions ): Pop Warner Division Junior Bantam = 12, 13, 14 Midget = Age 11, 12, 13, 14 Junior Midget = Age 10, 11, 12 Pee Wee = Age 9, 10, 11 Junior Pee Wee = Age 8, 9, 10 Mitey Mite = Age 7, 8, 9 So, I guess he could have been a 12 year-old playing in the Junior Midget Division against 10, 11 and 12 year-olds. Here's a comment from a person claiming to be the head coach of the team:

Based on a recent thread on coogfans.com regarding our stadium plans, I didn't get that same impression of UH fans. -
Would Todd Dodge Sign A Better Quarterback?

Funny thing...I have that same hunch...but mine tells me we won't have to wait until halfway through the season. -

Hmmm....now that is a good question. It sure would suck if Baylor got the boot from the Big XII and suddenly got the invite to join Conference USA instead of us! -

I agree that Conference USA makes the most sense for us right now for a number of reasons. IF we were to ever get an invite to the Big XII (or Big XX - whatever it might be called if that time were to come), I'd only want to accept if our program was good enough to expect winning seasons. I would hate to replace Baylor as the Big XII whipping child just for the sake of being in the conference. -

Well...there happens to be at least THREE 2009 prospects that currently play QB and are considering North Texas as their university of choice. I honestly don't understand why it so hard to comprehend the need to sign a quality QB every year, if one's available and interested. In two years, Woody, Meager and Phillips will all be gone. We'd be left only with Tune, Vizza and Dodge. We have no idea how durable any of these three will be much less how well they will be able to adapt to D-1A football size and speed. Not one of them has taken a single snap in a college football game. Even if Vizza and Dodge turn out to be QB studs, we're still just a couple of injuries away from having to ask TD to suit up and take the field. Do you think Mack Brown sat back on his laurels when he had Vince Young and said, "Well, I'm set at QB for at least the next three years...no need to even look at another QB until then." Hell no, he kept recruiting the best athletes, regardless of position, because he knows you can't predict what misfortunes the future may hold. Yeah, because our QBs were so stellar last year we couldn't keep any of the three off the field. -
Game On: Carroll Will Play Miami Power - Game Was
gangrene replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
I actually wrote that comment prior to reading and posting the article from the Miami Herald and didn't go back to edit it. From the tidbit publised by the DMN it appeared that the school received no punishment whatsoever. However, the loss of the entire coaching staff, as reported by the Miami Herald, is a pretty severe penalty...much harsher than what OU got. -

So let's simplify it just a bit. Let's say TD had the opportunity to sign Vince Young or perhaps the next Vince Young in Terrell Pryor, a Rivals five-star, 6'6", 220 lbs, dual-threat QB that runs a 4.4 40 and has a 3.4 GPA?? Do I really have to answer that question?? I think even DD would know the answer to that one. I'm not the least bit worried about the notion that signing Riley Dodge would somehow limit our QB prospects in future recruiting classes. In fact, I think it will have the opposite effect, IF Riley or Vizza is as successful at UNT as either of them was in high school. Why?? Because every HS QB wants to be given the best opportunity to be successful at the next level and showcase their talents. Seeing a successful QB at UNT will only make more quality QBs want to come to UNT to savor some of that same success. Jevan Snead and Ryan Perilloux aside, most good athletes believe they are the best and look forward to proving that fact to their peers and coaches. One of the state of Texas' top QB recruits for 2007 is G.J. Kinne. Knowing Colt McCoy is a Sophomore and firmly establised as UT's starting QB, he still chose to go to UT over Baylor, where is father is the LB coach and where he possibly could have vied for playing time this year. Now, I don't think we'll actively recruit another QB for the 2008 recruting class (becuase we have other needs) but I certainly don't think TD is going to turn away quality QBs because he doesn't want the to put the pressure of competition on Riley. -
Don't know if anyone heard about this, but the scheduled SLC vs. Miami Northwestern football game was in doubt due to a a grand jury report of a coverup of sexual misconduct involving one of the Northwerstern team’s former players. The Miami-Dade superintendent was considering suspending the team's football program for the entire season...but they must be the OU of Florida high schools because the administrators decided against it. Game on: Carroll will play Miami power 07:37 PM CDT on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 By DAMON L. SAYLES / The Dallas Morning News Southlake Carroll will not have to look for a replacement for its nationally televised football game in September. Miami-Dade County Public Schools administrators, in a hearing Wednesday afternoon, decided against suspending the Miami Northwestern football program for the 2007 season, TITUS Sports Marketing representative Dave Stephenson said. District superintendent Dr. Rudy Crew on Monday threatened to suspend the program following a grand jury report of a coverup of sexual misconduct involving one of the team’s former players. TITUS, a Dallas-based company, and Chicago-based Paragon Marketing Group teamed up to arrange the highly anticipated matchup of two nationally ranked football programs. Carroll, a three-time defending Class 5A state champion, and Northwestern, the defending 6A Florida champion, will meet at 6 p.m. Sept. 15 at SMU’s Ford Stadium. The game will be televised live on ESPNU. Here's the real scoop from the Miami Herald: Northwestern OK to play -- provided coach gets ax BY ANDRE C. FERNANDEZ AND TANIA DeLUZURIAGA a1fernandez@MiamiHerald.com CHARLES TRAINOR JR. / MIAMI HERALD STAFF Miami Northwestern's quarterback Jacory Harris hugs former coach Roland Smith as assistant coach Rodney Harris (Jacory's father) walks by outside the Miami-Dade School Board. Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Rudy Crew removed the football team's coaching staff for the upcoming season after an incident involving one of the players last year that was covered up by the school's administration. Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Rudy Crew announced late Wednesday afternoon that Northwestern High's defending state champion football team will be allowed to play this year -- but without the school's popular coach and his staff. ''You will play football this season,'' Crew said during the county's School Board meeting. ``But under a one-year probationary period. I'm not inviting back any of the current coaches on the football team.'' Crew had been weighing whether to suspend the program. His decision to preserve the program but ax the coaches stems from a sex scandal involving the team's top player and a 14-year-old girl in a school restroom. The incident has made headlines across Florida since December, and many people believe that star running back Antwain Easterling was given special treatment after he was charged with lewd and lascivious battery on a minor. Although a School Board rule mandated a 10-day suspension, Easterling was never disciplined and school and district officials approved letting him play in the championship game. The Bulls won. Upon hearing of Crew's decision Wednesday, current and former members of the football team that gathered to watch the announcement walked out of the auditorium in unison. Several players appeared shaken by the news and a few had tears in their eyes. Several players were approached by local media for reaction but refused to comment. ''These aren't just coaches for a lot of these kids,'' local pastor Dwayne Richardson said. ``They are father figures to a lot of these kids, and now they're being asked to go on without them.'' Before announcing his decision to dismiss the current coaching staff, Crew showed the audience from afar a lengthy list of names of Northwestern staff that, according to the grand jury investigation, knew of the incident last year involving Easterling, then 18, and the girl. Crew, however, did not reveal the names on the list. Crew also said that Charles Hankerson would remain as Northwestern's principal for the coming school year. The investigation led to the indictment of former principal Dwight Bernard, who was charged with two counts of official misconduct for failing to report the incident. Easterling, who will play for the University of Southern Mississippi this fall, completed a pretrial diversion program that will keep his record clean. Last week, the school's athletic director, Gregory Killings, resigned after 23 years there. Crew also stated at the Wednesday meeting that he wanted each player to sign a written contract that would require them to maintain a proper code of conduct on and off the field, and that any violation of it would result in that player's suspension from the team. The superintendent had been quietly meeting with community leaders for the past two weeks to discuss options. Though Crew outlined several ideas that deal with academic and personnel changes at the F-rated school, it was the possible suspension of football -- the cornerstone of the school's athletic program and a source of pride throughout the Liberty City community -- that angered many Bulls fans. Richard P. Dunn, a Northwestern alumnus and president of PULSE, People United to Lead the Struggle for Equality, said Crew told a group of ministers during a Tuesday meeting that the district would toughen academic requirements for players and offer more programs to help them meet the grade. ''I think he looked at the situation and realized that to take away football would not cure the problem,'' Dunn told The Miami Herald before Crew disclosed his decision to the board. ``It would only exacerbate the situation. Football was not the reason this thing happened at Northwestern. Football is neither moral nor immoral.'' Miami Herald staff writer Andrea Robinson contributed to this report.

Ditto that for me, including the part about trying to make a deposit since the new laws went into effect. I think it's still very easy to do via wire transfers though.

Ncaa To Announce Ou Decision On Possible Sanctions Today

Right. I was thinking of TCU that played OU and SMU that season. -
Lighten up...even SMU (ponyfans) is poking fun at the measurements of these recruits. I don't think we've "gotten big heads" and I certainly wouldn't compare our comments to Tech fans!

So this means OU lost to TCU and SMU in the same season? I hate when ruling parties implement the "forfeit the entire season" penalty...especially when it's after the fact. Who does that punish and how does that penalize a program?? -
Yeah, I heard they were really fast and I found this video highlight of one their recruits:
