Your avatar pic creeps me out...it looks like a face is in the helmet and the nose is hanging over the front of the facemask and the eyeball has popped out of the socket...scary stuff!!!! But, then again...maybe it's just me. I guess you'll be changing that picture to the new, white helmet soon?

I don't recall where I read it, but it seems like I saw a quote from TD that said we'd have green pants. As others have suggested, we may have a few different options.

You're right, fund-raising is not my business but...I do know a thing or two about corporate sponsorships as I've been pitched many different opportunities (and approved several) over the last 15 years of my career. Never, as in not once...have I ever been asked to evaluate a proposal that includes naming rights, before construction had started on a facility. That just doesn't happen...and if it did...I'd laugh them out of my office. Corporate sponsors are not in the banking business. Your thinking otherwise tells me you know nothing about corporate sponsorships.

I don't know...I didn't have a problem with it either. I'm sure we had to pay a hefty fee to Jerry to lease the stadium, but at least we got some big schools to travel to play us in Irving. We can't get anyone to come to Denton. I don't know if there was a big attendance spike for UNT games but I do know that the Super Pit played host to a regional bracket of the NCAA Final Four tournament and it was certainly packed for that. You're exactly right in that no corporation is ever going to commit to a naming rights sponsorship for a stadium in which the ground has yet to be broken. I like this idea...sort of like the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon. Maybe we could auction off Mean Green memoribilia to increase donations? I think the website idea is great. Having a running balance for all to view and a paypal or other "button" in which alumni/fans can made immediate donations is a good way for everyone to monitor the progress.

While I agree with your opinion on Fouts, I'll have to disagree about that being the reason the big schools won't play in Denton. While it's true that SMU has managed to host OSU and TTech (twice now), I still feel that we'll have trouble convincing TTech, TAMU or UT to travel to Denton with stadium that only seats 30K. #1 - We won't have enough seats for them (remember, we sold out Fouts for the Baylor game). Also, I believe we had 30K+ for both the TTech ('98 and '00) and TAMU ('97) games we played at Texas Stadium back in the Matt Simon days. #2 - Also, the revenue generated from 30K may not be enticing enough to get the big programs to Denton. Hmmm...I propose a challenge to the current 4,655 GMG members who are UNT alumni and/or fans of the football program in which GMG members start a fundraising rally. I have no idea how many of those 4,655 may be MTSU, A-State or posters from another opponent, but if we could get 4,000 members to commit to just $100, that's a cool $400K we could donate to the "stadium fund". If we really wanted to make a splash that would get us noticed by the university and the local (possibly national) media, then those same 4,000 GMG members could dig a little deeper and donate $250. That would make our contribution an even one million dollars. I know that most of us already contribute to our great alma mater, but it would make so much more of a statement for our cause if we pooled our contributions together and donated it as a lump sum.

That is the biggest reason why we need a bigger stadium. Look at UCF, they built a 45K stadium and get to host UT this year. Where did Troy pull off the upset against MIZZOU?? Hint...it wasn't an away game for them. If we want to host any of the big boys (and have a better chance of an upset), we need to have a bigger stadium. Will we fill it up for our SBC games? Hell no. But maybe...just maybe, more people will come out as our team gets better and, eventually, we can start drawing 35-40K for every game.

Right...I knew the OU game will be broadcast on FSNSW, but the other three are on ESPN+ regional coverage. I plan on being on vacation in the Rockies for that November 15th game and it would be awesome to be able to watch the game either in my hotel room or at a bar somewhere. I could do that if it was on ESPN2, CSTV, ESPNU and possibly FSNSW, but ESPN+ coverage won't get broadcast outside of DFW, unless it's an option on the ESPN gameday PPV. Oh well...maybe someday... So it's streaming video via the internet?? If so, I'd hardly classify that as "TV coverage". I wonder if there is a fee for ESPN360...thanks for the info.

I'm confused. If these guys are class of '08, doesn't that mean they'll be playing JUCO ball this fall and won't see a D-1A field until next year (just like the class of '08 HS kids)?? And it looks like they're getting pretty good consideration from the "big boys" right now...

High Jump Recruit To Be Football Walk On
gangrene replied to GreenBat's topic in Mean Green Football
Not to discredit anyone, but that has to be the weakest "Top 25" (at 13-25) list I think I have ever seen. What other Top 25 list have you seen where West Texas A&M has three commits, three didn't sign anywhere and Buffalo, UMHB, Kilgore and Cisco each have one commit?? -
ESPN+, I guess that means channel 27 for us. I'll take it but I'd much rather have a FOX Sports, ESPNU, CSTV or ESPN2 broadcast. Any idea what ESPN 360 and CSS are?? CSS= Cox or Comcast Sports S??? Sat, Sep 15 Miami FL vs. Florida International 2:30 p.m. ESPNU I wonder why ESPNU wants this game!!!

Damn, cut before camp even opens! I was hoping he'd be the next Don Beebe. Best of wishes to JQ, I hope someone gives him a real chance this year and I look forward to watching him in pre-season action.

Does Anyone Have An Online Countdown To Kickoff?

Nope, but maybe one of the administrator's can write the code on a GMG page where we can all access it?? -

You mean like this: countdown to kick-off?? or this?? -
According to meangreensports.com, we're having a "Junior/Senior Evaluation Day" tomorrow. It says it's for "incoming Juniors and Seniors (Fall 2007)" -- what exactly does that mean?? I'm assuming they are talking about high school Juniors and Seniors..but that verbiage is a little confusing. SMU is having a camp tomorrow too and, according to this report, they are expecting 400 players.

N T Daily - Riley Dodge To Play At U N T
gangrene replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I was about to say something similar regarding Texas and Snead. You can add to that an example from last year in which UT lost the nation's #1 QB recruit and "Gatorade National Player of the Year (2007), John Brantley, to Florida who...oh, by the way...has a pretty good returning QB in Sophomore, Tim Tebow. Texas then went out and signed one the state of Texas' best QB prospects in G.J. Kinne who decommitted from Baylor, where his father is a coach. G.J. Kinne made the decision to play football at UT as a QB even though a Sophomore, Colt McCoy, is firmly entrenched as UT's QB for the next few years. USC seems to be another one of those unusual anamolies in which quality QBs seem to migrate to, almost as if by tractor beam. How do you explain the plethora of great QBs they've had recently in Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart and now John David Booty, with another Heisman candidate, Mark Sanchez, waiting in the wings?? Here's a nice article on the competition of quality QBs at USC over the last several years and just how that competition serves as a motivation to perform better: Friendship, competition motivates USC QBs to perform -

I've actually wondered the same thing myself. He does seem to enjoy ruffling feathers with his matter-of-fact opinions and somewhat skewed assessments of Mean Green football. -

What I want to know is where Tune could transfer that he wouldn't have to compete against another QB?? Are there really any teams out there that would hand Tune (or any other player) a starting position without any threat of competition whatsoever?? I hope both Vizza and Rodge turn out to be great QBs but, hey...let's face it...if either one of them were the second coming of Vince Young, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart or Tom Brady (or any other highly-touted HS QB recruit), would they really be coming to UNT?? No one will ever convince me that just because Rodge is coming to UNT, no decent QB will give UNT a second thought until he's gone. Time may prove be wrong but I won't concede to that until after the fact. I don't understand why some people are so convinced that quality QBs will look elsewhere to avoid competition for the position. It is the opinion of many with coaching "knowledge" that TD is a terrific QB coach and knows how to get maximum production from the QB position. I repeat my prediction that if UNT QBs (whomever that may be) have the same kind of success that SLC QBs did, you'll be seeing more and more top QB prospects commit to UNT. Dodge2007 - Why do you keep you questioning TD's coaching integrity?? Do you truly believe that TD would sacrifice the success of the team and play Riley over someone that is clearly better than him?? Did you get benched on one of your childhood sports teams in favor of the coach's son?? -

Slc Vs. Miami Northwestern, Sat. Sept. 15 @ 6pm, Which Just
gangrene replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Ummm...I think that's already been posted...more than once in fact. -
I wonder when that was? Texas Tech's alumni association is pretty screwed up IMO. They have about 10 different chapters here in the DFW metroplex and it seems they never correspond or communicate with each other....not that that would have been part of Morgan's responsibilities. Maybe we can get him to bring some of that TTech arrogance and obnoxiousness that Tech fans seem to possess so much of?? (note; that was sarcasm)

I was just reading a little about this match-up and it's being promoted as the 2007 #1 vs. #2 ranked high school football teams in the nation. Most of you are probably aware that Miami Northwestern's coaches were recently relieved of their positions. If not, here's that story. As of this morning, Northwestern is still without a coaching staff. For a little insight to their coaching style, here's a video from the 2002 season, Year of the Bull. However, their team's roster reads like a "who's who" of Rivals.com. I've read that as many as 11 Northwestern Seniors are serious D-1A college prospects, with three Rivals 4-star and four Rivals 3-star prospects on their team: Jacory Harris, #6 nationally-ranked dual-threat QB is a 6'4", 169 lbs 3* U of Miami commit Brandon Washington, #6 nationally-ranked OG is a 6'4", 310 lbs 4* U of Miami commit Aldarius Johnson, #6 nationally-ranked WR is a 6'2", 200 lbs 4* undecided prospect Tommy Streeter, #45 nationally-ranked WR is a 6'6", 200 lbs 3* undecided prospect Marcus Forston, #2 nationally-ranked DT is a 6'2", 286 lbs 4* undecided prospect Benjamin Jones, #24 nationally-ranked SDE is 6'6", 270 lbs 3* undecided prospect Sean Spence, #19 nationally-ranked OLB is 6'0", 186 lbs 3* undecided prospect I think we're all familiar with SLC's prospects, so I won't mention them here. SLC will definitely have their hands full in this game. I'm looking forward to seeing how our commits, Riley Dodge and Derek Tomlin, perform in this game. There is web site dedicated to the promotion of this one football game, where you can read about the teams, purchase merchandise and even buy tickets. Here's the site: Clash of Champions I thought it was interesting to note that the Northwestern team played a scrimmage game this spring against Belle Glade (Fla.) Glades Central High School, which has sent more players to the NFL than any high school. Northwestern prevailed, 42-21, before 6,000 fans, including 40-plus college coaches, numerous NFL players ... and four coaches from Southlake Carroll. Although the game will be nationally televised, I'm definitely planning on seeing this game in person since we'll have the week off anyway. ***EDITED due to technical difficulties with links in original post.***

I'm sure this site has been posted before but, in light of all the recent helmet discussions, I thought I'd share it for everyone again. This is the most comprehensive collection of historical football helmet designs that I have found on the internet. One thing I noticed is that the majority of D-1A schools have had a white football helmet at one time or another; Baylor, A & M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech to name a few. However, most schools have been fairly consistent in regards to the helmet logo whereas we've been all over the place. The most consistent element of UNT football helmets is that the helmet has been some shade of green since 1968. Another thing I noticed is that Marshall (whose colors are also green and white) has had many more helmet design changes than we have...they've been all over the board. Here's the link: The Helmet Project

I Would Like To Introduce The 2007 Mean Green Football Helmet
gangrene replied to caliuntfan's topic in Mean Green Football
Not that I'm 100% on board with the stickers but, according to the USA Today article I previously posted in this thread, Ohio State, Florida State, Georgia, Clemson, Purdue, North Carolina State, Vanderbilt, East Carolina, Cincinnati and Louisiana-Lafayette currently use the helmet stickers. Colorado, Arizona and Pittsburgh recently discontinued use of the stickers. I wouldn't classify all of these schools as "big-time college football" programs (nor would I currently put UNT in that category), but you can't get much bigger than Ohio State, Florida State and Georgia when you're talking about "big-time college football".
