  1. Last I checked, we don't have any kids with DD...let's just move on. He's got someone new in his life and so do we.
  2. I think maybe that was the problem! Better to get the kinks worked out now than right before kick-off! Besides the channels keith mentioned, other directv channels to note during the college football season are 206 (ESPN), 209 (ESPN2) ,608 (VS), 609 (ESPNU) and 610 (CSTV). You can catch some UNT football later in the season on channel 52. Go MEAN GREEN!!! I'm so elated that the season is finally here!!
  3. I don't think the statistics on this board are working. I know we have 5,000+ members now and we've probably already broken that record you mentioned.
  4. My take on this is that Miami first announced they didn't want to play North Texas because they wanted a "higher profile" team for their opening game in Dolphin Stadium. It's a fact that statement was issued by U of Miami personnel. North Texas officials were probably then contacted by Miami (or vice versa) to begin discussions of a buyout. Then Miami, full of arrogance and in true U of Miami fashion, tries to publicly turn the tables and make it look like we didn't want to play them anyway. We should issue a statement about how Miami was afraid of Dodgeball and the real possibility of losing to an SBC team in their opening game at Dolphin Stadium...and explain how that must be the reason why they didn't want to play us. I truly hate those bastards. My hate list is: #1 OU; #2 A&M; #3 Miami; #4 Texas Tech; #5 SMU
  5. Can I please have back the ten minutes I just wasted reading all 4 pages of this thread!!!
  6. Four or five weeks ago you were ranting about how we won't get a single QB prospect to consider UNT because of Riley's commitment. And you were also mumbling something about how Riley will be the starting QB his freshman year because "blood is thicker than water" or some similar nonsense that seems to totally discredit Todd Dodge's professionalism and compromise his moral principles. Now you're saying that Riley won't be a starter for three or four years because you think is arm strength is just average and he's way overhyped. Seems very contradictory to me.
  7. I think we have a clear leader to the poll. The biggest concern heading into '08 and beyond is.... not being to start our own polls!!
  8. I know...it's not fair damnit!!! Where's the justice?? Why can't I make a poll?? I didn't abuse my poll starting priveleges.
  9. I think you're missing a few options: What new tradition should we start How much do our uniforms look like SLCs What should we throw on the field in lieu of tortillas Will TD continue to keep practices and scrimmages closed to the public
  10. So let me get this straight...JUCO transfer Cam Montgomery and Micah Mosely will redshirt. Deavin Cox is going to start because the coaches like him and Jamario is hurt. So that means our back-up RB is...Keronna Henderson or 5'5", 180 lbs Joshua Maldonado??
  11. We won't have to worry about the ball on the head play this year. It's all part of TD's grand scheme...while Meager will take every single snap from the shotgun formation, the white pants and helmets will make it much easier for him to see the brown football coming out from the center.
  12. Ditto on the part about Vizza. Now OU's defense can spend hours studying DM's tendencies, such as the one mentioned in this post by MeanMag. I know exactly which picture you are speaking of and I'm glad I didn't take a drink of anything before I read that!!
  13. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. I'm not going to say anything negative. Go DM. Go Mean Green!
  14. Once again, I want to thank Brett Vito for asking the right questions and giving us Mean Green fans the information we really want to know: Breaking news -- Meager to start Now I can't say I'm overjoyed with the decision, but at least I know...for whatever that's worth.
  15. Thank you for the definition lesson on my chosen username. I assure you I was well aware of the word's meaning before I chose it. I'm not urging anyone to lower their expectations for this year...I just want everyone to be reminded of the realities we face. We're coming off of back to back nine loss seasons and now we have a new coach and a completely new offensive system. I don't want anyone to not hope for a twelve-win season...but hope and expect have two totally different meanings (go ahead look up the meanings of those two words too ). I just hope that everyone doesn't expect Todd Dodge to go 9-3 and win the SBC this year and then be disappointed with a 5-7 or 6-6 record and give up on the team. I honestly don't know why TD is waiting to announce the starting QB for the OU game. Maybe he does think it will give us an advantage?? I'm not going to question his judgement but, if that is his rationale, that's a pretty big stretch of the imagination to think it will give us an advantage. Maybe we should ask Brett Vito to ask TD that question the next time he interviews him?? Although the SBC is getting better each year, I still think we should be challenging for the championship each and every year. Honestly, I think we should win the SBC this year too...but I've thought that the last two years as well. My hopes this year are much, much higher than they have been the last two years but my expectations aren't as great and I won't be totally disappointed if we go 5-7 or 6-6. I think either of those two records in TD's first year would translate to a successful first season. Again...I don't want anyone to lower their hopes for this season. The excitement and interest level for Mean Green football is about the highest I've ever seen it (at least in the last 30 years) and I don't want that level to diminish if we don't finish the season with 8+ wins and a bowl invite. One of my life mottos is to "prepare for the worst and hope for the best"...I guess that's also how I'm approaching this season...cautiously optimistic. But all this talk of UT, TAMU, TCU, TTech and even UTEP being afraid to play us for fear they may lose is just silly (from another thread I read). You don't think playing against the opponents' back-ups and being down by 20+ points (with nothing to lose) played a factor in the Green team's success?
  16. Now that's some funny stuff! That's basically what I meant in my previous post. Thanks for explaining. I don't think OU will get too specific on studying any particular QB's tendencies or habits, nor do I think it would be necessary. SLC has utilized their system very successfully with four different QBs over the last several years. The system may have adapted to a QB's speed and/or arm strength but any such changes were slight and insignificant, IMO. It seems some people on this forum actually think we have a chance of upsetting OU and/or going 10-2 this year. I have even caught myself daydreaming about that possibility and would certainly love for it to happen. But, as you just stated, we have a new coach and a new system and we, as Mean Green supporters, need to have more realistic expectations for this first season under TD. Those that can't deal with reality and expect no less than a 7 win season and/or the SBC championship are the ones I was implying might be in for a rude awakening.
  17. It's WAAAAYYY too early to be thinking that any Texas school is afraid to play us, except maybe SMU. We're coming off back to back 9 loss seasons and most pre-season football publications have us ranked in the bottom 10 of all 119 D-1A football schools. I know, I know...they're just sports writers...what do they know??? Well, we're probably a little biased in our opinions too because of all that green koolaid we've been drinking. Like most everyone, I think Dodge can get us going in the right direction, but a winning record this season might be a pipe dream. Five to six wins would be a success. Considering we play W. Kentucky, seven wins might not be out of the question, but if we win eight to ten games I will be absolutely astonished. Now I'll admit that I was a major DD basher last year and I said that any good coach should be able to consistently win the SBC while at the helm of UNT. I still believe that but I think it wil take TD a year before he's able to accomplish that feat. The belt is getting better but we should still expect to dominate every year...except maybe this one transition year.
  18. Because it won't matter to OU if Vince Young is our QB. Are you serious?? Do you really think OU is afraid of Meager or Vizza??? Do you think not revealing who our starting QB is until the OU kick-off is going to give us any advantage?? A think a lot of Mean Green fans and alumns (including myself) are about to get a major dose of reality.
  19. Maybe he has the same social anxiety/personality disorder as Ricky Williams and he needed some "medication" to make him feel better?!?!?!
  20. I ignored this thread for most of the day because I saw "EA" mentioned and thought this was about a generic SLC QB winning some sort of award on a video game. With Rodge getting this much publicity and recognition, we can just forget about any other QB even contemplating a visit to UNT for the next four years!! GreenBat, I'll save you the time and effort from typing the question...yes, I was being facetious.
  21. Found the article, 2007 Football Schedule Announced, I mentioned before. Here's the section I referenced: The Red Raiders will open the season on the road at SMU on Sept. 1 in the first year of a new four-year contract, which will feature home games on alternating years. The second game of a two-year deal with UTEP takes place in the home opener on Sept. 8, while a new two-year agreement with former SWC foe Rice begins in Houston on Sept. 15. The Owls will return the game in 2008. In the final non-conference game, the Red Raiders will host Northwestern (La.) State on Sept. 29.
  22. Seems like I read somewhere the other day the Tech and SMU signed another 4 year, home-and-home contract. So, yes, I think Tech would, and has, already agreed to that. However, if they can ever get the details on the OSU game at Jerry World hammered out, they might renege on their SMU deal.
  23. SMU and TCU are both private schools and have less than half of the student enrollment and DFW alumni base of UNT. Those are the reasons they will never be the team of the DFW metroplex. And, one could argue that SMU actually had that title back in the Mustang Mania days, in spite of the aforementioned obstacles.
  24. YES!! I think this entire thread needs to be moved to the Job forum or deleted entirely!
  25. He he...you said, "It's kinda hard..."
