  1. Hey, we're already in the Top 10: Longest current losing streaks (In Football Bowl Subdivision) School Losses 1. Florida International 16 2 (t). Utah State 10 2 (t). Colorado State 10 4 (t). MTSU 7 4 (t).Temple 7 6. Notre Dame 6 7 (t). Louisiana-Lafayette 5 7 (t). Marshall 5 7 (t). North Texas 5 7 (t). Rice 5 We should be ecstatic that coach Godge has bestowed the honor of gracing our sidelines for a couple of seasons....who cares if we don't actually win a game. We're putting up gaudy passing and receiving statistics. What a bunch of ungrateful morons (or is it maroons?) we are.
  2. There, I fixed it for you.
  3. Well said Emmitt, your thoughts and assessment of the situation mirror mine. Don't forget Ryan Leaf...he really had great stats. What a leader that guy was!
  4. From USA Today:
  5. I've seen a lot of confusion about the redshirt rules recently (not necessarily on this board), so I thought I'd post the redshirt definition. According to the NCAA: Redshirt Definition The term "redshirt" is used to describe a student-athlete who does not participate in competition in a sport for an entire academic year. If you do not compete in a sport the entire academic year, you have not used a season of competition. For example, if you are a qualifier, and you attend a four-year college your freshman year, and you practice but do not compete against outside competition, you would still have the next four years to play four seasons of competition. Each student is allowed no more than four seasons of competition per sport. If you were not a qualifier, you may have fewer seasons of competition available to you. You should know that NCAA rules indicate that any competition, regardless of time, during a season counts as one of your seasons of competition in that sport. It does not matter how long you were involved in a particular competition (for example, one play in a football game, one point in a volleyball match); you will be charged with one season of competition. Please contact the certifying institution or conference for additional information. You also may contact the NCAA membership services staff at 317/917-6222 if you have further questions. By that definition, Vizza is not eligible to redshirt this season. I think it's basically a moot point anyway because I suspect he'll see a lot of PT in the next few weeks.
  6. I don't think anyone is blaming only DM for this loss or the SMU loss. We win and lose as a team. You can't expect to win without a good defensive performance and you certainly shouldn't expect to win when you have two blocked punts within the same game. There's definitely plenty of blame to go around, but that's not really what I see is happening. Why is it that everyone thinks that just because you criticize the performance of one player, you're placing ALL the blame for the loss on that one player? I could just as easily rant and rave about the performance of Adam Venegas thus far this season, but that certainly wouldn't mean that I'm placing the blame for being 0-3 on him. Meager gets the bulk of the criticism because the QB position has more influence on the outcome of the game than any other one position on the team. There have been several other threads this season that criticize other parts of our game; defensive scheme, d-coordinator, DBs, etc. We should have a new for special teams this week. Agreed...I guess that just shows how passionate each of us are about our Mean Green football. We've had a day and a half now to cool down...maybe we can all play nice again? Maybe there should be a new rule that prohibits us from posting for 48 hours after a loss?? Yes, and everyone wants to talk about how these are DD's kids playing in TD's offense. So I say why not let the kids TD recruited start playing now??
  7. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't DM squander six points by throwing an INT in the end zone on our first drive?? That's a very critical mistake. It's because he's only accurate to a +/- 5 yard degree...meaning if the guy's not open by at least 5 yards the chances of the pass being intercepted increase exponentially because he's going to overthrow/underthrow him by at least 5 yards. I agree with your perception of Vizza during the OU game. In addition to making quick decisions, he has a quick release and doesn't vacate the pocket at the first sign of trouble. It's much more difficult to pass block for a QB who has happy feet and holds on to the ball too long. Vizza looks to have great pocket presence and can make the split decision to get rid of the ball just before being hit by the defense. Vizza is also more accurate, IMO, and is able to hit WRs in stride instead of forcing them to fair catch the pass. Will Vizza make mistakes when he finally gets his shot? Sure he will. He'll throw INTs too but I don't think he'll make the same level of mistakes that has plagued Meager. Throwing INTs in the end zone is intolerable and should get your ass benched ASAP. Adequate?? 4 TDs and 7 INTs is adequate?? Hmmm...I'll just say I disagree and leave it at that.
  8. That's an asinine statement. So now when DM throws INTs it's not his fault because the coach told him to do it? Settling for an adequate QB is not acceptable. Three games into the season, Meager has 4 TDs and 7 INTs. If he keeps up that pace, he'll end the season with 16 TDs and 28 INTs. That is not acceptable. The QB is the most important position in Todge's spread offense and, with an adequate QB, it just doesn't work...especially when the defense can't be counted on to stop the opponent from scoring. Generally, when people don't have a sound argument, they resort to name calling...I'll classify your response in that category. Just like last week, I'm not placing the entire blame for this loss on DM, but he sure as hell isn't putting us in a position to win any games. Forgive me for expecting more from my alma mater, but I don't find satisfaction in losing. I don't find satisfaction in subpar performances and I don't find satisfaction in "moral victories" that so many of you seemed to enjoy after last week's loss to SMU. Frankly, I'm beginning to wonder how many people on this board really understand football.
  9. I think there must be some truth to the rumor that the song "Tubthumping" by Chumbawumba was actually written about Daniel Meager: Artist: Chumbawumba Song: Tubthumping Lyrics: We'll be singing When we're winning We'll be singing... I get knocked down But I get up again You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again You're never going to keep me down Pissing the night away Pissing the night away He drinks a whisky drink He drinks a vodka drink He drinks a lager drink He drinks a cider drink He sings the songs that remind him Of the good times He sings the songs that remind him Of the better times Oh Danny Boy Danny Boy Danny Boy I get knocked down But I get up again You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again You're never going to keep me down Pissing the night away Pissing the night away He drinks a whisky drink He drinks a vodka drink He drinks a lager drink He drinks a cider drink He sings the songs that remind him Of the good times He sings the songs that remind him Of the better times Don't cry for me Next door neighbour I get knocked down But I get up again You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again (we'll be singing) You're never going to keep me down (when we're winning) I get knocked down But I get up again (we'll be singing) You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again (we'll be singing) You're never going to keep me down (when we're winning) I get knocked down But I get up again (we'll be singing) You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again (pissing the night away) You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again (pissing the night away) You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again (pissing the night away) You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again (pissing the night away) You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again (pissing the night away) You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again (pissing the night away) You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again (pissing the night away) You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again (pissing the night away) You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again (pissing the night away) You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again (pissing the night away) You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again (pissing the night away) You're never going to keep me down I get knocked down But I get up again (pissing the night away) You're never going to keep me down
  10. It's time to end the Meager experiment and start building for the future. Daniel Meager is one of the most frustrating QBs I've ever endured as a fan...and I'm not just talking about as a Mean Green fan. Let's start Giovanni now. I can forgive some of his mistakes because I know he will learn from them and is capable of correcting them. I certainly can't say the same for DM...it's been the same old, same old for three years now.
  11. I'd rather drive a Gio than ride on the Dan-wagon.
  12. SLC - 49 Rockwall - 42
  13. Two questions: 1. Can we set aside the entire $700K to start a stadium fund? 2. What exactly does a "suitable replacement" mean? Who determines what is or is not suitable and how is little ole UNT supposed to help big, bad Miami schedule a game? I'm sure we could talk another SBC opponent into taking that game, but I doubt that would be a "suitable replacement".
  14. Sounds a little 'mafioso'...the Dodge...I like it. From here forward, let it be known that Todd Dodge will simply be referred to as THE Dodge.
  15. I'm guessing it's going to be another shoot-out, who ever has the ball last wins, affair. FAU's QB was 27-44 with 463 yards and 5 TDs in their 42-39 victory over Minnesota. Two receivers had 100+ yard games and two others had 80+ yard games. On the other side of the ball, FAU's defense surrendered 470 total yards to the Gophers (335 yards and 4 TDs in the air and 135 yards on the ground). Minnesota lost the game because of their SEVEN turnovers (3 fumbles lost and 4 INTs) while FAU did not have a single turnover. Middle Tennessee did a much better job of containing FAU's offense but committed 4 turnovers in their 27-14 loss to FAU and the Oklahoma State game wasn't even close (42-6). FAU seems to do a terrific job of creating turnovers; +10 in turnovers after only 3 games is incredible. Let's hope we can keep the T/Os to a minimum and can play some defense. My prediction: UNT 49 FAU 47
  16. Wow...that is sad. I've seen more people attend a peewee football game. I wonder how much they paid to rent out Dolphin Stadium for that game?
  17. It could also have something to do with the fact that they play in a high school stadium that was built in 1959 and only seats 20K. Sound familiar??
  18. Nice...it must be serious if it's out for the season, considering this is only week 2. Any idea what ails him?? Oh, and thanks for the info.
  19. Can any of you SLC guys provide an update on recent UNT commit, Nick Leppo? I watched the game against Miami, Northwestern and noticed he wasn't in the line-up. Is he injured or did he just get beat out??
  20. You all are a bunch of MF'ers!!
  21. Stories like that drive me crazy!! I can name off about a dozen similar cases without even thinking about it....all that talent and the kids don't want to put in the effort on their studies or get involved with the wrong crowds. A friend of my brothers was all-district, all-state and Texas Top 100 a few years ago. He signed with A&M and was starting his Sophomore year. He got involved with the wrong crowd and eventually got in enough trouble that he was kicked off the team. Now he's working at Pizza Inn trying to support his girlfriend and baby.
  22. So parents were upset because they feel Todge was showing favoritism to his son?? Hmmm....interesting.
  23. According to the FOX broadcasters on the OU game, Bron Hager made a tackle on a kick-off (I think). I heard his name and had to rewind it...wasn't him.
  24. That's basically the point I was trying to make. Until we start putting pressure on the QB, it doesn't matter who we have playing CB. A zone could help alleviate the problem of the same guy (aka Hair) getting beat every time but, I agree, until we can put some pressure on the QB and limit the amount of time he has to find his receivers, we're going to continue to see lots of points for our opposition. A zone would also allow us to disguise a CB blitz on obvious passing downs w/o allowing a receiver to just run free. Sure that's a gamble, but not any more so than putting your CBs out there on an island. And, I don't know if your "simple" comment was directed at me....I didn't call man coverage simple...basic yes, simple no...especially when you don't have the athletes to cover. I don't think a zone coverage is the be all, end all but I can tell you what we're doing ain't working!
  25. Maybe I'm reading between the lines too much, but to say that the coaching staff is "going to look at the options at CB" tells me that we're going to continue playing the same basic man coverage we've seen in the first two games. There are a lot more problems with this defense than the CBs and, unless Deion Sanders or Champ Bailey plan on wearing a Mean Green uniform, we're going to continue to see a porous passing defense if we remain in man coverage 100% of the time. I don't fault the players as much as I fault the defensive schemes and play calling.
