  1. I have been perplexed by all the negative posts about Riley too. I still remember the excitement the board had when we were lucky enough to have him decommit from Texas and commit to UNT. He's one of the most highly rated and highly decorated recruits UNT has landed in the recent past. He did great things in high school and I have no reason to believe he's not capable of leading our team to happier times in the next few years. I was sad to see Gio leave but what's done is done...let's move on. Until Riley proves otherwise, I have full confidence that he can step in and be a productive QB this year. While I'm sure his size may present certain challenges, such as getting balls batted back in his face, I also believe that he will find ways to overcome them - either with his speed or finding better passing lanes. I am still happy Riley decided to come to UNT and I am excited to see what he can do on the football field this fall. I don't know what issues may exist within the locker room but I also don't know what anyone can expect to gain by bashing/trashing our projected QB before he has even had a chance prove himself.
  2. Good idea, but I have two comments: #1. We have a great deal more than 3,100 members now. A quick check shows the most recent new member to post was "Sports" and his/her member number is 19,827. There appear to be over 100 members that have joined and are awaiting validation, so we should top the 20,000 mark soon. I've politely asked for these automatic stat counters to be corrected before...to no avail. However, to Green Machine's point, we have many visitors to this site that are affiliated with other programs. Still...out of 20K members, you'd think 3,100 of us would be loyal Mean Green fans and willing to part with $500-1000 per year, to supplement our pathetic athletic budget. #2. I made a similar proposal to support a football stadium fund (before the economy went in the shitter)....and I was met with a similar reaction to what you seem to be getting.
  3. I'm sorry but I'm calling bull$hit on a $19 million increase in six months time. The only logical rationale is that somebody screwed up somewhere in their original estimates of the costs. Steel is cheaper, labor is cheaper and we haven't even broken ground...what is it that is supposedly driving this increase?? Jerry Jones stadium ended up costing more than originally planned but those costs didn't escalate until construction began and it was realized that costlier changes were necessary to complete the stadium as planned. Construction costs just don't increase 23% in six months without a BIG reason.
  4. I was able to sit in the newly built club level suite in the north endzone of UT's Memorial Stadium last season. It is absolutely incredible! I don't know the exact seating capacity, but I'd guess it's between 3,000-5,000. Seating is actually within the open air of the stadium, but because it's on the club level, alcoholic drinks are allowed to be taken to your seats. The inside area is very similar to the suite level (not individual suites) at the American Airlines Center or the Jose Cuervo lounge at the Ballpark in Arlington. It has a full bar and tons of buffet lines, featuring everything from hot dogs, to grilled seafood to key lime pie. I would love to see something like that at our new stadium but I won't hold my breath. I tried to find pictures on the web but there don't appear to be any post-construction shots of the suite's interior. It was, by far, the most luxurious experience I've ever had at a college football game.
  5. Do the student IDs still get scanned upon entry? If so, there should be a computerized database of those students in attendance. Most people don't like to provide personal information to "register" for something and this process would eliminate it. A full semester of free tuition may/may not be enough to entice a larger crowd but it's a good idea. Maybe you could have one free tuition winner per game and partner with an apartment complex to provide free rent for a semester as a grand prize. Or partner with a book store to provide $500 of free textbooks, etc. Hell, I'd be willing to contribute to a prize fund if I thought it would increase student attendance. I think you're on the right track though....we need to do everything we can to get more students to attend the games.
  6. "Singing day is in the books..." ...are you singing the blues or a happy tune?
  7. Looks like Washington just signed.
  8. That used to be my signature, but we never won so it seemed pointless.
  9. I agree and I would venture to guess that he wasn't the initiator of said pattern. Do a search on "millennials" or "generation Y" and you'll get a sense of what we're dealing with here. I've personally had to deal with some of the characteristics of this generation and I've heard of many instances in which mommy or daddy will call a college professor to dispute a grade on their son/daughter's behalf or even call an employer to dispute an annual review or demand rationale as to why their "baby" didn't get a promotion or raise.
  10. Didn't we lose to SMU in that game? I don't care if we pass for 600 yards or 60 yards, as long as we win the game. I do get your point though. I guess we will soon learn the answer to your question.
  11. Nah, you've got it backwards. Unfortunately for Johnny, the Canadian dollar has been falling against the US dollar recently. Congrats to Johnny. This is indeed good news, but I'd like some good news for the current UNT team too.
  12. Yes, I remember her. Although she was dressed very conservatively, I thought she had real potential and...you know what they say about those librarian types. But, I let my friends push me in the other direction.
  13. LOL, let's not go there. She wasn't a ladyboy...just a really ugly b.
  14. Two years ago, my decent-looking girlfriend and I had a bitter parting of ways that started when she and her friends wore black shirts to my birthday party. I was depressed. In addition, I couldn't escape my reality by focusing on UNT football. So, I was also depressed with the state of our football program. My beloved Mean Green had some recent success and I felt that we should be experiencing those glory days again. "We should easily win the Sunbelt every year!" I used to say. Trying to drown my sorrows at the local watering hole, I noticed a really hot chick checking me out, albeit through beer goggles. In my drunken stupor, I approached the gorgeous babe and struck up a conversation. All the right things were said...she was a big UNT fan and loved football. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was amazed by her compliments about our new facilities and told that, together, we could be the talk of the metroplex. My buddies were watching me and giving me the thumbs up sign...mouthing the words, "She's hot!" and making obscene pelvic thrusts. It was love at first sight, or so it seemed. The more I talked to her the more it appeared she was into me and willing to leave the bar in search of some place more private. I was surprised I was getting all this attention from what, to me, was obviously the most attractive girl in the bar. Confident and proud, I wanted everyone to know...yeah, she's with me and we're leaving together...she even drove me home in her Dodge Viper, since I was in no position to be behind the wheel. The next morning (it seems like I slept for two years) I awoke to find the ugliest biyatch I had ever seen, lying next to me in my bed. Oh Sh*t!!! I thought, what the hell did I do??? She made me the nastiest breakfast I'd ever eaten and I couldn't get her to leave. When she finally did leave, I walked her out to Dodge...Neon?!??!? WTF?!?!?!?? Where did the Viper go?? As I sat on my couch wondering just what in the hell I was thinking the prior night, I began to assess the damage. She knew where I lived but I could always move. My friends all saw me leave with her...how embarrassing, but I could get over that. I had gotten closer to her than I cared to remember...luckily I didn't remember every detail. A few months went by and I had almost forgotten about the worst night of my life. That's when I got the phone call telling me that she was pregnant and it appeared our lives would be forever entangled. I did the right thing and married her. My good friends know our story but I don't ever mention her to anyone at the office. When we go out in public I try to stay as far away from her as I can. People see her in her UNT sweatshirt and they point and laugh. I try not to notice, but it's hard. I'm saving my money to get her a personal trainer and some plastic surgery but I often wonder if it's worth the effort. I guess I just can't picture her looking as good as she did in my inebriated state of mind that night.
  15. I'm not sure you're going to convince many people of Vizza's ineptitude by comparing him to Drew Brees.
  16. I guess it doesn't consider bowl games either? The most obvious comparison to me was Texas Tech, who we all know got hammered by Ole Miss, who beat Florida: Div I - FBS Texas Tech beat Nebraska 37 - 31 Div I - FBS Nebraska beat Clemson 26 - 21 Div I - FBS Clemson beat South Carolina 31 - 14 Div I - FBS South Carolina beat Mississippi 31 - 24 Div I - FBS Mississippi beat Florida 31 - 30 Therefore, Texas Tech is better than Florida as shown in 5 rounds by a combined score of 156 - 120.
  17. Think of it this way - if we had a new stadium in 2007 it would already be two years old and well on its way to obsolescence right now. It would have already lost that new stadium smell. By waiting until 2011, we assure ourselves of the possibility of having the latest and greatest of everything...state-of-the-art flat screen TVs in the suites, the most advanced concession dispensers, most fuel efficient generators, LED stadium lights, etc. Just for the sake of comparison, say you bought a cell phone a few years ago. You might have picked out this popular model: But, if you waited until today to buy one, you could have this: I ask you...which would you prefer??? I rest my case....waiting is definitely better than having one now!
  18. I hear the construction crews are heading back to Mexico because they can't find enough work here.
  19. He thought he could just hit the reset button on his PS3 and start the game over if he didn't make it. That guy's an idiot, especially when it's 4th down and he's losing.
  20. DD, as in Darrell Dickey??!??!!??!?! I haven't been on gmg much lately but I hope we haven't hired Dickey back, have we?? Regarding Fentriss, it was my understanding that he gave up football completely and won't be back next year.
  21. Which one? The original? or the new heavy duty version?
  22. Apparently, UT alumni paid for a 45-35 banner to fly over the OU-OSU game last week and the Mack banner is retaliation for it. The strange part is...Texas Tech is claiming responsibility for the Mack banner flying over UT. Texas Tech is such a step child...always trying to attract more attention to themselves because no one really cares about them.
  23. Where is the program now?
  24. greenblooded - You're tired of people questioning and complaining about a coaching staff that has compiled a 3-21 record?? Well, I'm tired of losing and people being content with the status quo. I don't care if Mickey Mouse is the head coach of the Mean Green as long as it translates to wins. Still, I don't buy your argument. Sure, having played the game helps you understand it...but, by no means, does that mean the best players will become the best coaches. I don't have the time, enthusiasm or desire to analyze what's wrong with this team. There is simply too much that needs to be fixed. Our old Buick was in bad need of an engine overhaul two years ago, but now it's wrecked and not even running anymore. Is it totaled beyond repair? Is it the mechanic's fault or the driver? I had serious doubts about this hire when it was still being discussed here on gmg. When I voiced my concerns I was lambasted. My concerns grew as the rest of the staff was assembled but I got caught up in the excitement and the attention the media was giving UNT. The recruiting seemed to be much improved and I had high hopes for the first season. I have been nothing but disappointed and embarrassed by the team's performance both on and off the field. Over the last two years, we have been regulars on the ESPN bottom 10 list, last in defensive yards and points allowed and set many dubious records such as most points allowed and most losses in a season in the HISTORY of our program. I like Todd Dodge and I do not advocate his firing, but this program can not afford two more years like we've just witnessed. I have seen very little to make me believe this team is even remotely close to heading in the right direction. I expect significant improvements next season or I will indeed be calling for a change in leadership from the AD down to the water boy.
  25. Careful, I nearly got shot for suggesting that Dodge be hired as the OC instead of HC two years ago. I can't help but wonder if Jim Harbaugh or Jimbo Fisher would have taken this job or just laughed in our face when they heard our offer.
