  1. Revenue streams from Cowboys Stadium contracts run deep Some key excerpts from this article: The stadium rental fee for the Texas A&M-Arkansas game Oct. 3 and the Baylor-Texas Tech game Nov. 28 is $100, according to the contracts, obtained from A&M and Tech. The teams get revenue from ticket sales and from team-specific merchandise sales and game-specific sponsorship deals. Oklahoma ($2.25 million) and BYU (about $1.5 million, according to the school's athletic director) get fixed payments for their Sept. 5 game. In a side letter to Tech, the Cowboys guaranteed that gross revenue for eight of the school's suites would total at least $125,000. While I'd much prefer to play all our future home games in our yet-to-be-built, new stadium, I think we would be crazy not to consider Cowboys Stadium to negotiate "home" games with our "money game" teams like Alabama in the future. If we got deals any where in the vicinity of the ones mentioned in this article, I don't see how it would be anything other than a win-win situation for us. Even with a new stadium, I don't see Alabama, LSU, Georgia, etc....coming to play at our house. However, the lure of playing in the most modern football stadium in the world and the chance for these schools to play in the much-coveted DFW market may be too good to pass up.
  2. UFL Mission Statement: "To fulfill the unmet needs of football fans in major markets currently underserved by professional football by providing a high quality traditional football league comprised of world class professional football players. The UFL will serve the communities with pride, dedication and passion, and uphold a leadership role in the development of football worldwide. The UFL will provide every fan with an affordable, accessible, exciting and entertaining game experience." Funny, considering that mission statement, I wonder why they didn't include Detroit as a franchise market??
  3. No, but I noticed Fassel was the only coach who didn't draft a QB. Fassel, Haslett, Cottrell and Denny Green...not a bad group of coaches. I recognize the names of many of those players, but wonder how many will actually play for the teams that drafted them. I also noticed the season is scheduled to begin in October and end with the championship game on Thanksgiving weekend...that's a really short season but I completely understand their desire to not directly compete with the NFL homestretch and playoffs. I give it two years. I'm sure the investment by Paul Pelosi in the league will keep many on the board from wanting to support it.
  4. I love the history and glory of the Cotton Bowl and I hope it's around for a long time, but I'm out on that idea. While I think we would face zero flack from people claiming we are trying to duplicate the UT-OU tradition (UNT-SMU is not even in the same ballpark), I think that game will be too important for us to give up what little home field advantage we may or may not have. If we could guarantee 50K+ in paid attendance I might reconsider it but I don't see that as even a remote possibility.
  5. Hmmm...according to this article, Smith was on a one-year contract for $190,000. Ausmus is target in Vols' search for strength coach ***Edit*** Never mind, this story (from the same source but different writer) mentions the two-year/$400K contract. Since Smith is already getting paid well for the next two years, I wonder if he'd consider pro bono work for UNT??
  6. “We interviewed several guys when we hired Aaron and he is another source we can use in the industry,” Dodge said. “He is in that USC lineage. We are visiting with some of those guys right now.” Any speculation as to who the new guy "with USC lineage" might be?
  7. I've got to hand it to the board on this one. I don't know who it was, but someone predicted this exact scenario and then someone found the job posting (was that random or do you check it everyday) and broke the story here before it even his the press. I'm impressed!
  8. That's definitely the worst picture of our old logo I've ever seen. What he'd do, take a picture of an old stadium cup with his daughter's Miley Cyrus camera?
  9. I figured out how to fix it. Go to the options on the upper right-hand corner and click "view standard" and it will return to what we're used to seeing.
  10. Me either!
  11. I certainly wouldn't make that proclamation just yet. I think the jury is still out on a lot of former SLC players, as well as some currently on the SLC roster. Adam Ulatoski (6'7" 307) is listed as the starting LT on UT's 2009 depth chart . Who wouldn't want that size on our line? McKay Jacobson (WR, 5-11, 192) was named BYU's team offensive rookie of the year in 2006 . Patrick Benoist, (6'0", 224) LB at Vanderbilt, ranked first on the team and third in the SEC in 2008 with 109 tackles, including 6.5 for loss and two sacks. He was also just named one of three co-captains for the Commodores 2009 season. Corbin Smitter, WR (6'2", 210) is listed as a starting WR for Rice and was 4th on the team in receptions last year. Derek Epperson, (6'3" 225) SR P at Baylor was all Big 12 last year and is an All-American candidate for 2009. Justin Drescher (6'1", 230) has been a very reliable long snapper for the Colorado Buffaloes over the last two years (started as a Freshman). Alabama hasn't yet announced their 2009 starters, but it's expected former SLC QB, Greg McElroy will win that job and face his former coach on September 19. I also expect successful careers from Mike Prince, JR LT (6'3", 300) and Brayden Burnett, (6'3", 240) FR DL at Mizzou, Blake Cantu, (6'0, 191) FR WR at Oregon, Clint Renfro, (6'0, 160) SO WR at TCU and Bryce Saldi, (6'3", 215) RS FR LC at UNLV. Sam Schwartzstein, (Stanford) and Jake Jackson, (Baylor) also have good potential. I read that Tre' Newton was "very impressive" in UT's spring practice but I'm not sure he'll ever see much playing time in Austin with the kind of talent they recruit at RB. Oh, and I shouldn't forget Riley - big things are definitely expected of him. I intentionally refused to mention that group headed to SMU. I'm sure I'm missing a few, but the point is, regardless how many of you feel about SLC kids, they do have some very legitimate FBS talent and I'd hate to dismiss that talent pool just because we've had some bad luck so far. That's 16 (including Riley) former SLC kids on FBS rosters and that doesn't include the 4-5 on SMU's roster (or the other SLC kids - Acton, Leppo and Brainard on ours) or 2010 recruits, Jackson Richards, who has verbally committed to Texas Tech and Cade Foster, who has verbally committed to Alabama.
  12. FYI - Hall (***EDIT Hall?? Don't know where I got that. I meant to say Kyle White***) is playing and he doesn't look bad. I also heard the announcers say WR Ryan Walker, Southlake Carroll, is going to SMU too. He's got decent size and looks like a pretty good receiver. I'm soooo glad SMU has that pipeline to SLC going for them!!
  13. I didn't get to watch much of it...wife's watching celebrity survivor in one room and the daughter is watching cartoons in the other! Oh well, I don't mind sacrificing this one game for the entire football season. I just checked the LA roster and found White (listed as #90) here: http://www.bayoubowl.org/louisiana.html
  14. We have at least one participant: Kyle White DT 6'3" 300 McDonogh #35 New Orleans
  15. I can't find a roster but I saw that Kyle Padron was QB for the Texas team in the first half.
  16. Yep, I remember that...I still love the "OH YEAH!!!" (by the fan in the background) right after he says the in-va-taaaaa-tion.
  17. Whether concerts are pre-game or post-game, the only way to get students (as well as the casual fan) to stay inside the stadium without winning is to lock the gates once the kick-off has occurred.
  18. Dominating? No. But I'd say there are definitely areas in the state where UNT is virtually an unknown university. That is where I think these satellite camps will really help our recruiting. Texas Tech gets a majority of the west Texas players that are decent to good. If they're considered great, they basically have their choice of top ten programs.
  19. Gotta love this DCTF prediction - Q - Predict the biggest upset by a Texas team this season. A - North Texas over anyone. - Kirk Bohls, Austin American-Statesman Hey Kirk, where's your bohls? Why not go out on the line and make a real prediction? I guess that would actually require a bit more effort on your part, so I understand.
  20. So does that mean they have to forfeit to us this year??!!
  21. Hmmm....they have Tyler Stradford listed as a starting WR.
  22. After reading the height is barely over 2 ft, I have to agree with you. I was thinking it may be a good place to lay out the burger toppings and stuff, but not at 2 feet from the ground.
  23. I was hoping that was the good news. Oh well, at least his eligibility for next season is still in question....so you're saying there's a chance???
  24. It looks pretty cool and the price is right. I just wonder about the durability.
  25. I have to assume they are referencing one of the four stadiums they are building within their proposed athletics complex. If so, the term "stadium" should be used very loosely. The largest capacity of the proposed stadiums is 5,000 (expandable to 10K) for the soccer stadium. But, the article sure doesn't clarify that. It's misleading and makes it seem as if UTSA is building a football stadium.
