  1. Well, according to the story on kait8.com, they very well may have known the person they "went over to get things" from...I don't know...sounds like an OJ incident to me. At any rate, sources say that Stephens was projected to be a starter this year. Sucks for ASU, but better them than us. We've had more than our fair share of trouble the last few years.
  2. Here's a bit more: Former Blinn player shot during alleged burglary attempt It appears that the jonesborosun.com newspaper site has more traffic than they can handle at the moment. I guess more than 10 people can't view their site at the same time without severely overloading their server?? Maybe ArkStFan will chime in and give us all the details?
  3. I don't know...I'm going to go out on a limb here and make a bold prediction based solely on my inside knowledge of Mean Green football - Riley will run this offense one of three different ways; poorly, average or well. Of that, I am quite certain.
  4. Stephens dismissed after shooting
  5. Yeah, but the real question is how much money did Coach Halpin lose betting on him? I wonder how/why he ended up at Ball State. As I recall, he had originally committed to play for Tulsa and then changed his verbal to Oregon.
  6. North Texas Preview All-Sun Belt Team
  7. Congratulations to all former and current UNT players for your academic successes!!! Keep up the good work guys!! UNT football players on Commissioner's list Record Number of Student-Athletes Honored for Academic Achievements
  8. Isiah Thomas, FIU nab super 60 Center
  9. Third time's the charm!??
  10. Terrific...now the story has been picked up by texasfootball.com with a link to the DRC article on their homepage.
  11. Well, if you were a "big money booster" you could subscribe to the $1500 insider newsletter and know everything the head coach knows about the program! Wait - wrong university.
  12. Ok, I know this isn't really UNT-related, but 99% of the posts on the "Non-UNT Sports" forum aren't sports-related either. Anyway, for those of you that don't know/don't recall, Gary Joe Kinne was the head coach at Canton back in 2005 (prior to that he was an excellent LB at North Mesquite HS and Baylor). As Canton's head coach, he was shot by a player's parent who was, apparently, angry over playing time. His son, GJ Kinne, was a standout QB and originally attended and planned to play at Texas. After his redshirt season, GJ decided to transfer to Tulsa and should be contending for the starting QB position this season. After coaching in California for just over 1 year, I guess he wanted to get back to Texas and possibly watch his son play in a few games. Congrats to Gary Joe on his new job as AD and head coach at Sherman. Sherman is always competitive in 9-4A and generally produces a handful of FBS prospects each year. It would certainly be worth our time to recruit the Sherman-Denison area. Kinne Named Head Football Coach At Sherman
  13. I've never understood this philosophy. Perhaps you'd feel better about Denton State or Joshua C. Chilton University? Or perhaps we could go private and call ourselves Corn, Pasta or maybe even SBU (Southern Baptist University)...oh wait, that's regional.
  14. I'm sensing a theme here. Maybe we should change our mascot again?
  15. Well, there goes our great stadium name - Gold Field!
  16. Actually, I came across the story on hornfans.com so I really wasn't so bored that I was searching for Vizza "news". Besides, I'm more interested in knowing what Joey Byerly is doing these days!!
  17. Vizzas named Citizens of Year. Related? San Antonio ties? A love for Longhorn breeding? You be the judge. Also, I wonder if this "Vizza" is still at UNT?
  18. Anyone else bothered by the Copperas Cove team name, Bulldawgs? Seems sort of peewee to me.
  19. Lawyer: Texas' Kindle left crash scene You've got to love this brilliant comment from his attorney, "He knew he was hurt at the time and that he needed to go home and go to bed," Brian Roark, Kindle's lawyer, told the newspaper. Roark said the incident occurred at 2:50 a.m. ET on Wednesday and that Kindle was probably text messaging before the accident, the American-Statesman reported. According to witnesses, Kindle and several occupants got out of the car and pushed it out of the residence and down the road before abandoning it, police said. Wanna bet he wouldn't have passed the good ole field sobriety test with flying colors?
  20. I found this interesting headline to a recent blog: Where Syracuse Is A National Power And North Texas Is My Concubine I wondered, why all the hate from a Syracuse fan? Upon reading the above blog entry, the only reference to UNT was this: There's few things in life more satisfying to me than taking Syracuse and turning them into a perennial national champion while also crushing the soul of North Texas football...and this is why I am the way I am. Then, upon further investigation, I clicked on the link to the source of the writer's hatred towards our Mean Green (written July 7,2007). At the forefront of my hatred is North Texas. In reality, if the Mean Green ever made it to the Rose Bowl and defeated USC to end the season ranked #2 in the nation, I would consider it a victory for college football. In the video game, this happens every season and its slowly driving me insane. I've done many dynasties, not just with the 2007 version of the game but also with the 2006 version and for some reason, at some point North Texas becomes a college football powerhouse the likes of which makes Alabama and Michigan tremble. They have multiple Heisman winners, they've won the Sun Belt fifteen times in a row and they go undefeated more often than not. I've always figured that the CEO of EA Sports went to North Texas or perhaps the programmers are from the greater-Denton area. I came across a message board where others plagued by the same North Texas dilemma think that it has to do with the game's inherent recruiting flaw that makes all teams from California, Florida and Texas become good (which explains why Cal, USC, Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, Florida are always in the hunt for the title and North Texas, Florida Atlantic and Fresno State are always in the Top 25 and flirting with undefeated seasons). I decided to keep track of things for a few seasons, see if it was just me getting hot and bothered over nothing or if this was an epidemic ripping apart my quaint 1 a.m. existence. Over the course of six seasons, North Texas finished in the Top 5 three times, went to five BCS bowls and went undefeated twice. I knew what needed to be done. Up until now I had only played the game to benefit teams. To turn mediocre programs in powerhouses. I was God. And as such, if I had the power to give success, I also had the power to take it. I took over at head coach at the University of North Texas. My reign only lasted two seasons before my contract was not renewed but in that time I made amazing strides. Worst recruiting class in the country both times, no conference titles and a combined record of 6-16. I had ruined North Texas football. And it felt good. I don’t know exactly what the point of all this is except to admit to the world that I am an uber-dork. Perhaps there are others out there plagued by the North Texas Mean Green and this will provide some sense of comfort for them. And perhaps its a statement of hope that the 2008 version of the game will be free from ridiculous team powerhouses rising from the Sun Belt Conference. But I should let you know that my glory was short lived. As soon as I relegated North Texas from the picture, Rice went undefeated, won the Sugar Bowl and finished #3 in the nation. Owls, thy name is enemy. Too funny and too bad that winning scenario only exists in the virtual world.
  21. We're going with the buddy system this year.
  22. Not that you'll find all of your answers, but here are a few more details: Marching Band officially eliminated due to budget cuts
  23. I guess everyone washes their own car in Miami. I think UNT would cut the football team before they would cut the band.
  24. North Korea is basically already in the dark ages.
  25. Bwaa ha ha. When complete, our stadium may be newer than Cowboys Stadium, but to even try to compare the two is a joke. But, I don't really think that was your true intention. These statements are highly debatable (not to mention contradictory) and totally your own opinion to which, of course, you are entitled. However, my opinion differs from yours and I think we could be successful in getting some of these teams to play us in Cowboys Stadium. Even if we have to agree to a two for one deal, I think it may be worth it. We've had "home" games against A & M and Texas Tech in the recent past. Neither would play us in Fouts so we had to go to Texas Stadium. The 'Bamas, Georgias and LSUs of college football only have so many non-conference games to schedule each year. Whether they'd prefer to schedule a very tough non-conference road game against a reputable Big XII opponent or a very winnable FBS road game against UNT is anyone's guess. To me, it's a bit like extending a scholarship offer to a top 100 kid...you won't know the answer until you make the offer. To simply dismiss the idea without fully investigating the opportunity seems like a mistake and reminiscent of the small-time, woe-is-me attitude that has defined UNT football for the last 30 years.
