  1. Well, we know we're not the school that offered him the OC job. But, hey, it looks like we could easily hire another coach/QB duo with Kragthorpe!! This sounds too familiar to be worthwhile. College HCs with high school-aged QB sons - just say no.
  2. That's what I'm thinking. Ok...who on this board does the best Dr. Bataille impression???
  3. Careful there...those sort of comments have been known to earn the douche bag label from some of our fellow posters. Where do your true allegiances lie? Are you a real Mean Green fan or just a poser, wannabe??
  4. As has been quoted several times, RV apparently has end-of-season meetings/evaluations with each coach on an annual basis. He stated such in his live chat session prior to the start of this season. So, regardless of whether Dodge's services are retained, a meeting is inevitable. If he's going to let Dodge go, it seems like the job should have been posted 30 days ago and, if he's going to keep him, wouldn't he want to end the speculation and reassure Dodge, the team and the kids that are currently being recruited? It is my opinion that any further delay in an announcement favors keeping Dodge. However, it could also mean that a decision is still being pondered. I'm not sure which scenario is more frightening.
  5. For whatever reason, leaving people (Dodge, Goldsmith) in the dark seems like a trend with RV. Maybe he's just too disorganized to set up a meeting or hasn't yet figured out how to send evites on his email program? But, really, how hard is to set a date/time for a very important meeting that you've known was going to occur since early August? No matter what the final decision is, timing is everything in this process. High school playoffs are wrapping up for most teams and the players are shifting their focus on college choices. Now is not the time to be indecisive.
  6. This is a confusing statement.
  7. In hindsight, DD was right about one thing...you guys are all a bunch of MFers!!!
  8. I wasn't implying that his dismissal is a sure deal...I'm just hoping that an announcement is made to clarify one way or the other within the next 7 days.
  9. I realize RV may need some time to reflect on making a decision of who he wants to coach the team next year. But, I certainly hope that decision is made public ASAP.
  10. Thank you for this post Stebo, I agree wholeheartedly. Dodge has never been anything other than a class act.
  11. I don't care what anyone says or thinks about Riley, you could never doubt that he gave 100% while he was on the field. Thank you Riley. I appreciate all the effort you gave this year and I wish you a speedy recovery.
  12. Put me down for one more year of nut-kicking...I think I'm beginning to like it!! I want to believe.
  13. Can we play the game without a halftime break? That might even the field for us.
  14. I'll take the girl holding case #7.
  15. Kram - you sly dog/dirty old man!! Is that why you're always wearing sunglasses when it's cloudy?? Remind me to keep my daughter away from you! j/k I haven't been able to mention Mean Green and football in the same sentence, without my co-workers bursting out laughing, in about four years. Also, it's more than a bit demoralizing when you learn just how insignificant UNT is in the DFW football circles. On those rare occasions when my friends do entertain my UNT football conversations (generally, rants about losing close games), the conversation goes something like this: Friend: How'd North Texas do on Saturday? Me: Well, we had another double-digit, half-time lead disappear and lost the game. Friend: Who'd they play? Me: Florida International Friend: Are they FCS? Me: No, they're FBS and in our conference. Friend: The Southland conference? Me: No, the Sunbelt. Friend: Oh yeah, ok. (Friend trying to offer some encouragement) Well, I think Dodge is a good coach and he'll get it turned it around. You've just got to give him some time. Isn't this just his second year? Me: No, this is his third season. Friend: Well, hasn't he won more games this year? What's UNT's record? Me: We've won two games this season and he's won FIVE games the entire time he's been at UNT. Friend: (At a slight loss for words, pauses, then) Well, I still think he's a good coach (friend shrugs, like he's wondering what more I expect, as if to imply "come on, it's North Texas") (Then, in a somewhat surprised tone) What, you think they should fire him? Me: (Getting a bit agitated with friend's lack of knowledge of UNT's season - keep in mind, he does live within the immediate DFW area - and surprised reaction that I would even consider firing the world's greatest HS coach from UNT) Well, FIVE wins in three seasons, a complete inability to make half-time adjustments, properly utilize TE and FB sets, etc, etc....YES, I'm probably ready to go in a new direction. Friend: (body language suggesting that I'm just waaaay too into UNT football) What's that I heard about UNT voting to have a gay Homecoming court?? Me: Face in Palm!!!
  16. Throw in something about not having any money and I think you've got a slogan UNT can go with. Buying Mean Green gear in the new SLC-shade of green for the entire family - $325 Witnessing every heartbreaking home game loss of the Dodge era in person - $3,100 Countless hours spent debating on GMG.com - $123,783 in lost work productivity. Knowing your team will somehow find a way to lose in the last five minutes of the game - priceless.
  17. You forgot about how busy we are trashing current fans and decreasing our ever decreasing fan base even further.
  18. I agree with this. I have been a vocal opponent of continuing life with Dodge and vowed not to follow this football program if they couldn't win 4 games this year. However, I am more calm and collected now. Call it reduced expectations or whatever you choose, but two wins or four wins probably wouldn't really make that big of a difference anyway. I feel so bad for the team...it's really got to be hard to continue losing in this manner. I think they just need to get that one big win to get them over the hump and put this habit of finding ways to lose every game behind them. I'll give Dodge another 1/2 season. If this losing trend continues and we don't win at least three out of our first six games in 2010, I would be in favor of making a change at the helm - mid-season. However, I would also not be willing to ignore any potential big-time opportunities that may arise in the next few months.
  19. I'm very glad to hear you say that! oldguystudent, I don't know what to say. I really hope you reconsider, but I understand if you don't. It sounds like you've had to endure some pretty ridiculous attacks on your loyalty to UNT. You're as true a Mean Green fan as they come in my book. Regardless of whatever you may have been told, the simple fact that you attended a single UNT football game makes you a more legitimate supporter than many of the people I went to school with, who never stepped one foot inside Fouts Field.
  20. I was hoping to end things on a four or five game win streak but I'll settle for two. 4-8 is certainly not great but, yes, it would be acceptable for me...given the bigger picture.
  21. I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that we'll have a double digit lead at halftime, only to end up losing the game by 6 points or less. 42 fatigues - 38 fatigued
  22. A true story about the Y2K scare....the brilliant city of Mesquite bought into the theory that the new millennium would shut down everything electronic that depended on a clock. Their biggest fear? The red lights would stop working. So, weeks before December 31, 1999, they spent thousands of dollars sending work crews out to all the red light intersections to dig post holes (so they could erect stop signs on 1/1/01). My mother lives there and I have to chuckle to myself every time I visit her and see the red-capped, post-hole markers in the ground.
  23. CaribbeanGreen is right though...there's really no "right" to be gained here. It's just attention-mongering by a select few who are making a spectacle out of themselves and our university. This world has gotten so politically correct that rational decisions for the good of the whole are no longer possible. Instead, we cave to the otherwise ridiculous demands of the special interest groups in fear of them taking their cause to the news media. This fight isn't about Homecoming court selection at all. In fact, I'd be surprised if any gay candidates would really run for Homecoming King and Queer.
  24. Judging from the video on the news coverage, it was about 10 students. The video showed one carrying a rainbow flag and another with a sign marching up the stairs inside the student union, while onlookers pointed and smiled/laughed. What a cry for attention...
