  1. Nice Emmitt. +2, you made me laugh.
  2. This just in - apparently, Lincoln Riley is now available as he was just fired this morning, along with ST Coach, Erik Russell and CB Coach, Brian Mitchell: http://twitter.com/bfeldmanESPN
  3. Lincoln Riley bio Yes, he is young at 26, but so is Tech's new/Troy's former OC, Neal Brown, who is 29. Riley has a wealth of experience in both playing and coaching the spread offense. As Texas Tech WR coach, he was instrumental in the development of Michael Crabtree and, prior to that, he worked with Tech QBs (B.J. Symons, Sonny Cumbie, Cody Hodges and Graham Harrell) as a graduate assistant. In addition, he's a fine recruiter. Scotty Young was quoted as saying that his commitment to Tech is largely dependent on Riley remaining at Tech. (No, I don't believe Riley coming to UNT would result in Young committing to UNT.) Now that Riley has had a taste of being an OC, I'm sure he wants more of it. With Tuberville's hiring of Brown, Riley may be bitter that he was passed over by someone with similar credentials. Also, there is a possibility that Leach could be hired soon and come calling on his former assistants. I think the timing to talk with Riley is ripe right now. Gil Brandt may be old, but I still trust his judgment in spotting talent and he had some very good things to say about Riley and his future: Gil Brandt says Texas Tech’s Lincoln Riley reminds him of Mack Brown Would he accept an OC job at UNT?? We'll never know if we don't ask.
  4. Personally, I am totally on board with hiring an OC from "outside". I think this offense needs a different perspective and, with all the recent developments with coaching changes, I think we have a good opportunity to make a quality hire. Honestly, I'd be a bit disappointed if someone on the current staff is promoted to the position.
  5. According to Vito's blog, you can forget about that: Dodge said he will not look at moving safeties coach Chuck Petersen to the offensive side of the ball. Petersen came to UNT from Air Force, where he coached on the offensive side of the ball.
  6. How about Lincoln Riley from Texas Tech? He's still very young and maybe a little inexperienced to be named OC right now, but he's more qualified than Ford was three years ago. He has a ton of experience with the spread and is one of Tech's primary recruiters.
  7. I don't know that it was necessarily Tuberville's lack of patience that led to Franklin's dismissal. From my understanding, it was the alumni and boosters, more or less, forcing the change be made and, subsequently, leading to Tuberville's own "resignation" aka "being forced out". Here's a quote from an ESPN article that supports this perspective: Tuberville insisted there were no personal conflicts that precipitated the change Wednesday after endorsing Franklin as his offensive coordinator just a day earlier. "Tony and I have always gotten along well together," he said. "Basically it comes down to production. and a blog, with comments: http://secfootballblogger.com/2008/10/04/a...-tony-franklin/ I just find it odd that he would go back to the same place, and for the same position, that led to his eventual demise at Auburn.
  8. LOL, I guess Tuberville didn't learn his lesson.
  9. I don't know where this belief came from in the first place. With the exception of SMU, I'm pretty sure other Texas schools with recent coaching changes didn't wait 30 days to announce their new coach either. If anyone in our administration stated such it was probably just to stall for time while Dodge finished coaching SLC to the state championship. That, or someone mis-interpreted some law they mistakenly believed applied to non-teaching positions.
  10. In watching the US Army Bowl (HS All-star game), the announcer just mentioned that all of the USC recruits' phones were ringing this morning...I'm not sure his meaning was literal, but the point was made. This is a decision that could easily cause some major shifts in recruiting. He did say some of the USC recruits were considering Florida.
  11. Texas was my "first love" and I spent a year there before transferring to UNT, so I'll always cheer for them as long as they're not playing us. Yeah, McCoy's post-game Nebraska comments were pretty silly and I think may have even contributed to his 3rd place Heisman finish - how can a senior QB not know that the clock doesn't stop until the the ball hits the ground?? I thought Texas played well on defense and, yes, the O-line did do a great job protecting the QB. For a true Freshman, I thought Gilbert played well once he got the nervousness out. There were several dropped passes that should have been caught but talk about a LOT of pressure for a true Freshman QB to have placed squarely on his shoulders...he was probably expecting to relax on the sideline and take in the atmosphere, rather than having to play nearly the entire game.
  12. Yeah, but Richardson didn't give Texas 17 points while he was filling in for Ingram.
  13. Nostradamus? That statement says it all...I really feel for Colt. You know it had to be killing him to watch this game from the sidelines.
  14. Because Saban's an a-hole. Yes, the game would have been played differently had McCoy not been hurt. Hell, the game would have been played differently if Gilbert hadn't thrown that pick six to end the first half. Texas wins this game if McCoy was healthy and played the entire game...but you have to play with the cards you are dealt.
  15. That was, quite possibly, the worst version of that scene I have seen to date. I guess I shouldn't expect greatness from Red Raider fans.
  16. LOL. No, the combined nine wins (I don't think all were by the same coach) were enough to get the previous coach, Gene Chizik, hired away to Auburn!
  17. The only thing Leach really did wrong was give the Tech administration a half-way legitimate reason to fire him. They've been looking for a reason for a while now. To me, the biggest spoiled brat in this whole scenario is not Adam James but the Tech administration. I guess it only takes about 10 years to forget how far you've come. However, if Leach would have just sent him to the trainer's room, none of this would have ever happened. Needless to say, I think the administration will rue the day they decided to let Leach go. In today's entitled society, even my little league/peewee and middle school coaches would be seen as abusive....give me twenty pushups you pansy!!!
  18. Yes, he definitely made the video as verifiable proof of his claim. That was the second time he was confined and he was prepared for it that time. It wouldn't surprise me if Craig James advised him to take his cell phone for just that purpose. If you listen to the video, you'll hear him whisper that he had to turn the lights on to take the video and he was having to do it as quickly as possible so that the training staff wouldn't notice the lights on. I guess it's certainly possible that he made the video at another time but the description of "electrical room" certainly fits the video, unlike the much larger media room Leach's lawyer tried to pass off as the "electrical room" in a televised interview he gave recently.
  19. US Intel = suspect's father making an unsolicited visit to the US Embassy to report his son's behavior. Now, I suppose we'll have to strip down naked and/or have our crotches patted down or sniffed by bomb-sniffing dogs before we're allowed to enter the airport.
  20. Homeland Security is too pre-occupied with denying visas to this US soldier's wife and 1-year old twins to worry about denying visas to terrorists.
  21. Latest development has Leach filing a restraining order to allow him to coach in the Alamo Bowl. Where do you think Leach will be next year - East Carolina, Seton Hall, Tampa Bay, Oakland, Somalia???
  22. And I have no trouble getting a top 10 recruiting class year in and year out....I don't understand why Dodge can't do the same!!!
  23. I'd love to think that will happen because I can't stand Leach. However, he'll be given a very long leash because of what he's done at Tech. Remember, this is the same university that threw Bobby Knight a life preserver when he wore out his welcome at Indiana. Still, this couldn't happen to a better guy!
  24. At this point, I'd actually be somewhat please with mediocrity. Unfortunately, we're no where near that level right now. To be "mediocre" we'd have to be somewhere around .500 and, last time I checked, we haven't been a .500 team in a number of years.
