  1. Sorry, but I have to agree with CBL and Vito...as much as I love UNT, a Rice degree is held in higher regards in most fields of study...just as degrees from Stanford, Harvard, Yale, etc would be.
  2. Most of these guys from my original post are still uncommitted. However, the following have made verbals with only one committing to a SBC school:
  3. I just noticed an issue I seem to be having with clicking on the links within posts. I am using Firefox 5.0 on a Mac, but I didn't have the previous problem other Firefox users were getting with the error 404 message. My problem is that, when I click on a link, I am redirected to the new site within my GMG tab, rather than the click automatically opening a new tab to redirect me to the site linked within the GMG post. This is not a Firefox preferences issue as this process works on other sites (i.e. clicking on the Mean Green blog within dentonrc.com opens a new tab and takes me to that tab without closing the DRC tab). Is there a place within my GMG settings where I can correct that?
  4. I found this interesting: Back to the OCs (from FIU blog on January 13,2010) - I'm posting the entire blog because this entry is pretty far down on the page and hard to find. With a couple of previous OC candidates getting jobs elsewhere in recent days (Mike Groh - Louisville & Shane Montgomery - Youngstown State), the list has dwindled some as far as who will be the Panthers offensive coordinator in 2010. What we know so far is the following coaches have interviewed for the position: Gregg Brandon, Scott Satterfield, Charlie Weatherbie, Ed Zaunbrecher and Mike Cassano. Canales Now there are 4 other names to throw into the mix, who have also interviewed as of today: South Florida offensive coordinator Mike Canales (left), former Akron head coach J.D. Brookhart, Southern Illinois offensive coordinator Phil Longo and Stephen F. Austin offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson (right). Interesting situation at USF, after Leavitt got fired the A.D. asked the coaching staff to stay on through recruiting with whoever is the new Bulls head coach making the decision on whether or not to retain Leavitt's assistants. Not sure if I'm a USF assistant I'm too comfortable with that situation. Canales has also been courted by Southern Mississippi. So he seems to have options for 2010. Canales has also directed a pretty potent USF offense, mentored Chargers QB Phillip Rivers and has a tonDawson of experience. Check out his bio: Mike Canales Dawson worked wonders at SFA with the Lumberjacks offense. (That's the same SFA that FIU upset when the Jacks were ranked No. 5 in Division I-AA in 2004). Dawson took an offense that was averaging 16 points a game and had the SFA O averaging 35 points per game the next season. You gotta like those numbers. Here's more on Dawson: Shannon Dawson We could learn soon who will direct the FIU O in 2010. Of the remaining candidates, who seems to be the best choice? As most of you know, FIU hired Satterfield to be their new OC. There could be a thousand reasons why he didn't get or accept the job at FIU, so I don't care to speculate. I just thought it was interesting that he was interviewed by FIU.
  5. Did I miss something?? Has his hire been confirmed??
  6. I was going to suggest the same thing. I like the new look but it will take me a bit of time to learn to navigate it better. It looks like the quotes are back to normal. Thanks Harry.
  7. Mike Canales, former USF Offensive Coordinator, is certainly available. Here's an interesting blog about Coach Canales, written shortly after his dismissal at USF.
  8. Just for the record...I wasn't critiquing Johnson. I'm just looking at his size and athletic ability and suggesting that we at least consider him for the position where we need the most immediate help.
  9. You're right...sorry, I'll wait for another week and a half. I'm just so negative lately I couldn't help myself. I'm sure KRAM1 will have something to say about my comments too.
  10. ...has already bolted Memphis to join his former TTech staff at ECU. He was just hired at Memphis on January 17, 2010, and now footballscoop.com is reporting he'll be joining the East Carolina staff. What's that...7 days he was at ECU?? I guess I can take some consolation in believing Lincoln Riley would have done the same thing to us. But, for those of you that are always talking about a coach's unwillingness to accept 1-year contracts or join a sinking program, this should serve as an example of how short-term minded assistant coaches are these days. While joining ECU may show long-term goals, agreeing to coach at Memphis was just a CYA for Mitchell to ensure he'd have a steady income. Assistants don't usually have the big contracts afforded to head coaches and, therefore, are less likely to risk being out of a job for a full year. They also don't usually have much demand for broadcast jobs.
  11. Well Hallelujah!!! I don't know what I would have done had we lost a recruit to Texas State. Now, move him to DE!!
  12. How about this one - He probably didn't have the grades to get into UNT. Or this one - Maybe he didn't fit in socially?
  13. Hey, I'm doing my best to stay positive here, and it's get more and more difficult with each passing day.
  14. Well, if anything, maybe it will clear the path for Jordan Taylor to sign??
  15. Good luck Javia - don't wander too far south. There were over 2,600 murders in Juarez last year.
  16. While Dodge was not my first choice, I would prefer this too. I've always liked Dodge as a person and a leader but I always feared he lacked the experience/knowledge at the collegiate level to be successful. The bolded comment above was something I didn't know about Dodge but has become, in my opinion, his biggest downfall. He doesn't seem willing to trust his assistants and properly delegate some of his duties. He has repeatedly shown an inability to make in-game adjustments and seems reluctant to either hire coaches with differing opinions or listen to differing opinions from his current coaching staff. I'll reserve my judgment on the new OC, but I already fear we've lost a golden opportunity to greatly upgrade the position and have an immediate infusion of new ideas by not acting quickly and signing one of the many spread-experienced coaches that have been available recently. I'll add that, while I fully support RV's winning record gauge for Dodge's fourth season, I think making that public knowledge was a mistake and has made an already unstable coaching staff even more volatile - both for recruiting players and for recruiting/retaining coaches.
  17. Should we put a dome on our new stadium to protect us??
  18. Wow, that didn't take long...what was that two, three days???
  19. Well, it sure doesn't seem like anyone on the coaching staff is very confident they can turn this thing around next year. The ship is sinking and it's every man for himself.
  20. Yep, I'm sure we'll lose out on both. But they'd probably transfer out or give up football if they came here anyway....seems to be a trend with UNT recruits the last few years. I bet LR couldn't have gotten them both to commit here...but we'll never know.
  21. Lincoln Riley can't wait to join Ruffin McNeill
  22. A few months ago, when the future of Coach Dodge was still undetermined, the hot name on this board to possibly replace him was Steve Kragthorpe. To my knowledge (and I've been following the coaching changes very closely), his name has not been mentioned as a possible candidate in ANY of the open jobs, either for HC or even a coordinator position. Why has his stock fallen so far and so quickly?? Has he lost his ability to be a successful coach or was he just in over his head at Louisville?? Or was his success, prior to Louisville, just a fluke?? Luck???
  23. I hope you're joking...Leach's ego would never, ever in a thousand years, allow himself to work for his former DC. Yeah, I'm sure you were just joking. My guess is that Lincoln Riley is already on his way to ECU to sign his contract.
  24. After Rick Stockstill and Mike Shula both declined, it appears former Texas Tech DC and interim HC, will be waddling on the sidelines for the Pirates next season. ECU to Name Texas Tech's Ruffin McNeill New Coach ECU's forum has differing opinions of the hire.
  25. Blind faith must truly be blissful...or is it ignorance that's blissful??
