Baghdad Bob says there is no truth to any of the conference realignment rumors and asks, "Where are the WMDs?"

Texas Hold 'Em: Longhorns, A&M To Big Ten KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- High level sources in multiple conferences have told KCTV5 that Texas and Texas A&M are looking to move to the Big Ten Conference and have petitioned for membership, while the University of Oklahoma is planning on petitioning the Southeastern Conference to become a member of its conference.KCTV5's sources said that Texas and Texas A&M do not have to include Texas Tech or Baylor in their plans. Sources told KCTV5 that there have already been discussions about the two schools entering the Big Ten and that the agreement could be made as soon as Thursday.Oklahoma is currently working on petitioning to enter the SEC, but must find another university to enter the league with them, sources said. TMZ Sports has reported that Oklahoma State is likely to accept a bid to move to the Pac-10. Earlier Thursday, Colorado accepted an invitation to join the Pac-10.KCTV5's sources also said that some Big 12 officials are saying decisions on which deals Big 12 schools take invitations by the end of the day Thursday, although the deals may not be officially announced. Big 12 officials also tell KCTV5's sources that some Big 12 office employees are planning to be without a job within weeks. Those decisions would leave the University of Kansas, Kansas State University and the University of Missouri with Baylor, Texas Tech and Iowa State in the Big 12. The Missouri Board of Curators met Thursday and planned to meet Friday to discuss the future of Missouri sports. Another crazy story, citing "high level sources" that holds about as much credibility as the TMZ report.

Report: Texas Tech, Texas, Texas A&M to leave Big 12; OK State mum Oklahoma State is denying the TMZ report: Oklahoma State's athletic department informed ksbitv.com that there will be some sort of statement out of the president's office later Thursday. However, the university released a statement saying, "The report circulating about an immediate announcement today concerning Oklahoma State University and conference realignment is without merit. There are no announcements planned by Oklahoma State University. We remain committed to the Big 12 Conference. If there are additional defections, we will have to evaluate our options." A comment following the DMN story: Dallas_Cares 2:20 PM on June 10, 2010 Time for UH and UNT systems to step up - you're talking about 36k and above enrollments out of both - larger than ANYONE in the current BIG 12 except A&M and UT. Their SATs are actually HIGHER than TTECHs also and include all colleges within their respective systems including medical schools and law schools!! Talk about marketing anyone? I would pull all he mentioned into SWC and also include KANSAS AND KSTATE !!! And if that doesn't work - recommend UNT with thier 40k enrollment and near Tier1 to be accepted into BIG 10 for future - would the conf a slant agains PAC16 with them in recruiting and TV market hook for the DFW market!! I love the positive thinking but Big10? Seriously?? I think someone has spiked their green kool-aid.

Oklahoma State Next to Jump to Pac-10 Originally posted Jun 10th 2010 9:54 AM PDT by TMZ Staff The Oklahoma State Cowboys are blazing a trail to the Pacific-10 Conference ... according to a source -- and leaving the future of the Big 12 Conference in serious jeopardy. A source in the OK State athletic department tells TMZ Sports the move is a "done deal." The Pac-10 just made it official that Colorado is also jumping off the Big 12 ship. We're told it's "just a matter of time" before the OK State announcement is also made. It's been rumored that Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M will also join the new super conference. Nebraska, it's widely believed, will go to the Big 10. As for why this is all going down -- our source says "everyone wants a playoff system ... and this is the first step toward doing it."

I'd love to get into the MWC, provided another, more regional league isn't formed out of the Big XII leftovers. However, I'm afraid that's a pie in the sky fantasy for us right now.

Sparks: Sun Belt Can't Stay Silent In Expansion
gangrene replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Thanks for contacting him and posting his reply here greenjoe. Wow, that was nice (would have been better if he'd actually written that into his blog) and, for that I have to say - just when I thought he couldn't be any dumber... http://www.youtube.c...h?v=UnkefjCES-4 -
Sparks: Sun Belt Can't Stay Silent In Expansion
gangrene replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
UTSA was mentioned as a possibility for CUSA on ESPN and both schools, although not specifically named (FBS schools within the Central time zone was the phrase used), were cited as schools of consideration by the WAC president at their recent press conference. I've got an honest question. Is conference affiliation so important that (given the same record over the last three years) simply being in the WAC or Southland or not even having a football team, would put us in a better position for conference realignment today than having played in the SBC? How do you think Iowa State feels about conference affiliation today? -

I'd love to agree with you but, when schools like UTSA and Texas State are constantly mentioned as suitors for CUSA and the WAC, I have a hard time blaming the SBC for our irrelevance. -
Sparks: Sun Belt Can't Stay Silent In Expansion
gangrene replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
LOL, so I get a -2 for posting my displeasure about our omission from a story discussing who is currently in the SBC and who should be included in any SBC expansion? By the way, it looks like Sparks has now decided to not specifically identify each SBC member in that same article (guess that feat was too difficult ). Regardless of the reason for omission, oversight or not, I think it's a very telling observation. Over the last 4-5 years, North Texas football has really fallen into a grave state of irrelevance. And it couldn't have come at a worse time, in my opinion. If a beat writer for a team in our own conference can forget about us (but not Western Kentucky or even South Alabama), how much easier do you think it is for the average college football fan to forget about North Texas? We need to get back on top of the SBC in a hurry! -

I could quite possibly buy that line of wishful thinking if he didn't write this shortly after the paragraph I posted above: So the Sun Belt may need to either expand its membership or simply improve it. In the latter case, a redistribution of Sun Belt and Conference USA schools would suffice. For example, a football conference including MTSU, Western Kentucky, Troy, UAB, Memphis, Southern Miss, Central Florida, Florida International and East Carolina would vastly increase the Sun Belt's quality. And if the Big East implodes, Louisville and Cincinnati might be looking for a regional home. -
Sparks: Sun Belt can't stay silent in expansion A selected excerpt from the article: The Sun Belt's football members include MTSU, Troy, Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Western Kentucky, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe and Arkansas State and South Alabama soon enough. Notice anything missing from that statement? Hellooo??? McFly!! The lack of respect Rodney Dangerfield got is nothing compared to what the once mighty, four-time SBC football champs are getting these days. Let the email barrage begin: Adam Sparks is the MTSU beat writer for The Daily New Journal. E-mail him at sparks@dnj.com.

Report Nebraska to join Big Ten; Texas, Texas A&M boards to meet Thursday DMN's Chuck Carlton, referencing sources cited in Mean Green 93-98's previous post, is talking in terms of finality. He's all but proclaiming Nebraska to the Big Ten(eleven) is done deal. Let the domino falling commence.

So they created their own TV network just so friends and family could watch them play?
-
It's one thing to have a bunch of message board posters and bloggers speculating about UTSA, but now I have to hear it discussed on ESPN's "College Football Live." In a closing statement, Bob Davie was discussing where Kansas, K-State, etc might go and then said, "You have UTSA, Georgia State and South Alabama that haven't even played a game yet, but they're waiting to see if maybe they have a chance to get into Conference USA down the road."
-
Kyle was on ESPN's "College Football Live" today and he certainly didn't confirm it, but it sounds like he's more than ready to give up football and pursue his baseball career. Redshirt Freshman, Tajh Boyd, 6'1", 215 lbs, would take over, should Kyle Parker sign with the Colorado Rockies.

Awesome, just awesome....I love being considered as an equal to a school that has never even played a single down of football. Why does everyone think Larry Coker is a god?
-
Hmmm....could two of those 5 or 6 FCS schools be located off I35 south?

Yeah, but he's also about as two-faced as they come. He comes on GMG pretending like he's your best friend, while he's on every other football site bashing all things UNT...whether UNT is actually the topic of discussion or not.

Colorado Should Join Mountain West Not Pac 10

Because Coloradoans have a natural, inherent hatred for Texans or anything to do with Texas. -
Pac-10 To Offer Invites To 6 Big-12 Schools
gangrene replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
Pac-10 plus Big 12 equals smoke but no fire - LA Times Gotta love this sarcasm: If you believe swirling reports, that 2014 Rose Bowl featuring Pacific 10 Conference champion Texas Tech versus Big Ten Conference champion Missouri on Channel 206 could really be something. Advertisers, you know, drool over the television markets in Lubbock and Columbia. -
Good find! I'll be the first to admit he was no where close to being on my radar. I have found a little bit of additional information on him but I'll post it in the recruiting forum.

Could Smu End Up In A Drastically Different Big 12? Dmn
gangrene replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Wow, they sure as hell did. I THOROUGHLY read the article and there was no mention of North Texas any where in the story. I still have the original posting of the story opened on my tab. I guess that's a good thing that they changed it to now include us?? June 04, 2010 UH's Big 12 invitation could be in the mail. Or there could be something better. I've ordered the cheese dip and chips. I've got cold cuts and lukewarm beer and on my shopping list. If we're going to throw a party, let's make it a classy affair. After all the years of anger and jealousy, after feeling so irrelevant for so very long, our friends over at UH finally may see a light at the end of the tunnel. It's not the huge light they've dreamed of, but it's a light nevertheless. Fourteen years after UH was sent into a long downward spiral with the collapse of the Southwest Conference, the Coogs finally may be about to get what they've dreamed of for so long. Conference realignment is coming, perhaps faster than anyone thought possible, and it appears Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech are headed to the Pac-10. Their departures will leave openings, and UH surely will be part of this shuffling. This is an opportunity. It's not a perfect opportunity, and it's not going to please a lot of UH fans. UH still needs to get money raised and facilities built, but there could be something exciting happening, too. How about a Big 12 with UH, Rice, Baylor, SMU, TCU, UTEP, Sam Houston, Texas State and UTSA in the mix. Hey, wait, we don't have to call it the Big 12, do we? Let's come up with our own name. How about The Southwest Conference? How's that for an idea? Anyway, it's as perfect an arrangement as could be hoped for. First, it'll be a conference built on natural rivalries — Rice-UH, SMU-TCU, etc. Second, it'll have almost all the relevant TV markets: Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso, Waco. Finally, a conference that makes sense from a geographical standpoint. UH fans will be able to bus to every game, or drive, or whatever. Also, there are some long-standing rivalries here, and those rivalries will build in the years ahead. Some of you will complain that the conference will lose some of its energy without A&M, Texas and Tech. Guess what? There's not a perfect solution in any of this. Market forces are driving those three schools into a mega conference, and whenever there's consolidation, some schools will be left out. But if there's leadership and vision, this new Southwest Conference could work. Look at what TCU, SMU and UH have done without strong conference affiliations. SMU in many ways is a model program of a realistic vision and a beautiful on-campus stadium. This will be a conference with teams of similar means and similar ceilings. There'll be real competition instead of those other schools using UH, SMU, etc., as scrimmages. There are going to be recruits who will prefer staying home because their parents and friends can drive to most games. It's not a perfect arrangement, but it could be a new start. Fourteen years after the Southwest Conference went away, a new SWC could emerge, and college football fans around the state could be energized, or at least curious. I'll let you know when the party grub is ready. North Texas' original exclusion from the story is further evidenced by this comment to the article: I don't know, maybe it was just an oversight by writer. I guess I'll give him the benefit of a doubt. -
Pac-10 To Offer Invites To 6 Big-12 Schools
gangrene replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
They can be. Remember, the famous Janet Jackson Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction" was reported by TiVo as being the most re-watched event in history at that point in time. The technology is there. Why it's not being fully utilized is anyone's guess. Aside from political/contractual obligations, my guess is that real numbers will reflect a significant decline in viewership and the house of cards will come crashing down. Sorry CMJ, nothing personal. It could be much worse, you could work in the dying newspaper industry! I know Nielsen does much, much more in the industry than just TV ratings, but that's really my main beef with Nielsen. I don't wish any ill will towards Nielsen (I'm sure Nielsen's demise would have adverse repercussions for me as well) but I do realize that the fall of the TV ratings house of cards is all but inevitable.
