  1. There has been much confusion regarding how much Chuck Neinas' "services" cost. I know I was even having a hard time recalling that exact figure myself a few days ago. I'd seen the number "2" and anywhere from three to five zeroes after that two. I see our good friend "Check Facts" was the one who started the $250K rumor on a comment to Brett Vito's blog regarding the release of the report today. However, Vito mentioned that Neinas was being paid "a couple grand" (as in $2,000.00) in his blog entry the other day. What will Neinas say, UNT headed to Texas, et cetera 8:30 PM Wed, Sep 22, 2010
  2. Can't we just alternate plays between the swinging gate and the fumblerooskie for the rest of the year?
  3. No, no, no, no, no, never, never, never, no!
  4. Interesting choice of words. I'm sure the writer didn't intentionally demean the UNT HC job by making it seem as though a HS HC job (albeit a highly successful and prosperous HS) was somehow more appealing than a FBS college HC job? To view Dodge's "hiring away from SLC" as anything less than a major promotion is an insult. After being dismissed from UNT, Darrell Dickey was hired as the OC at Utah State, where he was later let go. Coincidence? Maybe there's something to this DD curse?
  5. 20-13 now, with 9:09 to go in the 4th and A&M's driving...looks like they might pull it out in a squeaker.
  6. With 5:03 to go in the 3rd quarter, FIU leads A&M 20-6, and FIU has the ball again.
  7. Back to topic, WKU is getting beat handily now, in the 4th quarter, 31-14. Troy lost to UAB by one point on what looks to have been a 44 yard Hail Mary with no time remaining and FIU leads Texas A&M 3-0 at the end of the 1st quarter (A&M's at the FIU 6 though). One last update - MTSU and Memphis are tied at 3 in the 2nd quarter, in a game I fully expect MTSU to win, even without suspended QB, Dasher. It definitely appears that the belt is getting stronger
  8. The Hoosiers are pulling away now - 17-7 at halftime.
  9. Yep, same station that had the NT game, CBS College Sports Network. It's halftime now though.
  10. Leach is a horrible announcer, June Jones needs to take the lei off and SMU is wearing....helmet stickers!!
  11. Oh, and I guess I wouldn't understand that? If we were a "BCS level team" we never would have hired a HS coach in the first place, much less have brought back a coach (of any experience level) with a 5-31 record over three seasons. I'm just as frustrated and sick of losing as anyone...I just don't see the point of bitching and moaning about it every chance I get. Que serå, serå. Unless your name is Rick Villareal, there's really not much, you, or any of us can do about changing things.
  12. Reverse psychology, perhaps? Regardless, it's much better than many of the other thread titles of late. This board has been hard to read the last week or so....almost like an anti-fan board.
  13. In a dingy, dimly-lit, old coach's office somewhere in New Mexico, a diabetic, former college QB and bowl-winning former FBS HC takes a break from watching game film (on a 50" plasma TV with curious ID engravings scratched out) of his 0-2 squad just long enough to read a few posts on GMG and laugh at all of us MFers.
  14. No, it was KRAM's very clever attempt to emulate Blutarsky's great motivational speech....forget it, he's rollin'
  15. Dodge recruits plenty of QBs, they just all decide to play elsewhere.
  16. I heard that too. My first thought was that had a nice opponent to open their new stadium. My second thought was why were they playing in Detroit. Just a hunch, but maybe it's so they can get Michigan State to come to their new stadium when it does finally open?
  17. I was getting ready for work and watching the Today Show. I, too, heard the report that a "small commuter plane had crashed into the World Trade Tower" and they went to a live shot. My first thought was, "There's no way that was caused by a small commuter plane." Then the second plane hit as I was watching. In a state of disbelief, I continued getting ready, got in my car and headed to work. On my drive (I don't remember if it was KRLD or the Ticket - turned serious) but that's when I first started hearing all the rumors....they have 20-30 planes, they hit the White House, etc, mass chaos. I also heard that the all planes had been ordered to land immediately. As I looked up through my windshield, I saw at least 10-15 planes still in the air near DFW and wondered... When I got to the office news was just starting to circulate. We had two large TVs in our main conference room and everyone sat there glued to the coverage all morning. It was only after seeing the mass exodus of people walking across the bridges that I realized I was actually supposed to be in NY that very morning for business. Luckily, I was informed a week prior that my attendance was not required. Back at my desk, a friend in Brazil kept calling me....frantic because her mother lived and worked in NYC and took the PATH train that goes right under the WTC and she was usually in that vicinity at the time the buildings came crashing down. My friend had been calling her all morning and couldn't get through...naturally, she feared the worst. But her mother was just fine and soon thereafter left the Big Apple for good. After both towers fell, no one in my office really felt like working much. We went to lunch and then decided to just call it a day. I will never forget how quiet the skies were the next four days. My wife and I went to NYC in 2004, saw the memorial, took the PATH train and viewed the big hole that remained. We walked into the hotel across the street and, five years later, it was still eerily familiar from the dust covered video I'd seen on the news coverage. I was also a bit put off by the street peddlers selling photos of the planes crashing in the WTC at the WTC memorial.
  18. Here's another one:
  19. We're favored by 2 points....
  20. Some of the Kansas fans are already asking for a new coach: Kansas message board
  21. 0-1 passing, 0 catches for 0 yards As (my) luck would have it, I had major TV issues and spent almost the entire first half on the phone with my service provider (I knew I should have gone to Pour house). Anyway, I only saw Stradford targeted once in the second half. What happened? I was expecting at least 5 catches and 75 yards. Likewise, I don't recall seeing Riley in the game either. The box score shows he had one carry for one yard. Were Tyler and Riley underutilized or did Clemson just have them covered all game?
  22. I echo your sentiments. This team fought hard and hung in there all game. Am I disappointed with the outcome? Certainly. This is the kind of performance I expected in season two of the Dodge tenure but, given the QB and OC change, I think the offense played pretty well. The defense still has tackling issues and the big plays killed us but there was some definite improvement. I was particularly thrilled with Robertson's INT in the end zone. Rice played Texas to a 34-17 loss and was very competitive in doing so. For that reason, I am a bit more concerned with next week's game than I was yesterday.
  23. I think that is a very good question but one that shouldn't be answered until week 7 or 8. If the 7-win ultimatum is steadfast, then there's absolutely no reason to wait one day longer than the day it becomes apparent 7 wins will not be achievable. I don't want to hear any excuses about how the 2011 recruiting class was thrown together at the last minute because we didn't hire a new coach until December. My hope is that we start 7-0 or 0-7.
  24. At the time, you could say Dodge held more cards than UNT. Many on this board were so giddy with the thought of Dodge's hiring they probably wouldn't have cared if he brought a junior high staff with him. Considering the circumstances, I don't know if Dodge would have accepted the job under those conditions. In hindsight, I think everyone, including Dodge, agrees that bringing his entire high school staff with him was a major mistake. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that was one of those lessons Dodge had to experience first-hand to believe it. Dodge came to UNT a VERY confident coach (which is what you want), but it's been a rough, humbling experience for Dodge thus far and it's come at the expense of our program. For the record, Dodge wasn't my choice to succeed Dickey and I had major concerns with him bringing the entire SLC staff to Denton. In addition, I don't think he should have been retained for this season. Now, having said all that, I think Dodge has been a class act for UNT and has represented our school admirably in everything but the win column. For the sake of the program, I hope Dodge pulls out the miracle and wins 7 or 8 games this season.
