  1. Josh McNeill - OG, 6'6", 285 lbs., Blinn JUCO, Brenham, TX - interested in Arkansas State, Baylor, Houston, Idaho, Memphis, Montana, New Mexico State, North Texas, Texas State, UNLV and Wyoming Rivals ratings - 2 stars/5.4 Offers from Idaho, Montana, North Texas, Texas State, UNLV and Wyoming He's a RS Freshman, so he'd have three years of eligibility remaining. However, it appears he's holding out for a Baylor offer.
  2. The recruiting blog has been updated. We're up to 8 offers now and the latest prospect, Devonte Fields, has numerous Big 12 offers, as well as a Big 10 and Pac 10 offer. As a reminder, I'll update the blog as often as new information becomes available, but I won't always post a new link to it, so please click on the pinned thread. Also, I'll be adding player prospects, by position, as we did last year.
  3. To me, that's analogous to asking a US soldier PFC if we went to war with Iraq to gain control of their oil. Dallas County constables' growing ticketing said to boost safety - and county coffers LAPD charging jaywalkers $191 in new crackdown
  4. I had no idea posting a friendly reminder to slow down would result in such emotion, bickering and political talk. Contrary to the opinions some of you may have formed about me, I'm not a cop-hating, habitual speeder. Prior to December, I hadn't been cited for a moving violation in 10 years and I haven't had an accident (knock on wood) in almost 20. Thank you Kram, that was one point I was trying to make, but evidently failed to do so. That section of the I-35 service road is the only area I've encountered where the access road to an interstate has a speed limit of 35. The I-35 speed limit there is 60 MPH and the entrance/exit ramps are so short you have to punch it to enter or slam on the brakes to exit in order to merge with the traffic. The speed limit on most SRs is 45. I call this area a speed trap because most drivers believe the speed limit is 45 and, with very few 35 MPH signs posted along this area, people who don't often take this route are easy prey. Thanks for the insight and the informative post. The Carrollton PD doesn't exactly have a good record in the public perception arena over the last 12 months. Carrollton police employees fired for egg incident Officer's appeal exposes problems on Carrollton police force Carrollton police officer fired over excessive-force case Car dealer alleges Carrollton police roughed him up; incident reports differ Also, it looks like the McKinney proposal is going to get voted down by the city council, but the revenue-generating rationale was clearly stated in the article I posted: Nope, that comment was made in direct reference to motorcycle cops, er officers...so I don't ruffle feathers more than I already have. I almost never see motorcycle police in rainy or cold weather but they are abundantly present on pleasant spring days. Or how about this guy who was ticketed by Texas DPS for doing 70 on George Bush where this sign was posted? Street Squad: Strange PGBT Signs
  5. Simon Goines - OT, 6'7", 270 lbs., Central HS, Keller, TX - interested in Arizona, Baylor, Houston, Nebraska, North Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon and Rice Offers from Baylor, Houston and North Texas Thanks to EastTexasMG for the find.
  6. Unfortunately, I have to actually drive every day. I didn't think I was complaining, but rather informing. if you don't drive, er speed, then this post wasn't intended for you and you have nothing to worry about. Oh, and speed traps don't exist just like PDs don't have "ticket quotas." Are DPD Ticket Quotas Legal?
  7. First, let me preface this by saying I am by no means an avid speeder (although I fit that description once upon a time). That being said, I was ticketed for speeding on my way to/from work twice in December. One of those times was on the service road of I-35 in Carrollton, near Beltline Rd, where the speed limit is 35 MPH. I honestly, and wrongly, thought it was 45, but was going 50. I was going a tad faster because I was about to turn onto a short entrance ramp to northbound I-35, where the speed limit is 60. Anyway, I've routinely seen both Farmer's Branch and Carrollton PD set up on the NB SR of I-35 on my commute home. This morning, on my way to work in downtown Dallas, I saw four Carollton PD motorcycle cops on the SB SR of I-35 between Luna and Beltline. One cop was shooting laser while the other three all had cars pulled over. I suspect this will be a much more common occurrence as the weather warms up this spring. With many of the local city governments facing budget shortfalls, they are looking for every possible way to generate additional revenue. McKinney is even considering charging an "accident fee" of up to $215 for non-residents that have accidents in their city limits. McKinney considers accident fee for nonresidents Several members of McKinney's city council have said they are opposed to the proposal since that article was written. Be careful driving out there. That money spent on a ticket would be much better served by investing in the Mean Green Club.
  8. Azuka Akozar - DT, 6'1", 250 lbs., 4.9 40 - Wylie HS, TX - interested in Houston, North Texas and SMU Offers from Houston and North Texas
  9. Noble Nwachukwu - SDE, 6'3", 240 lbs, Wylie HS, TX - interested in New Mexico and North Texas Offers from New Mexico and North Texas
  10. Nope, we're on it! We'll be updating the recruiting blogs with 2012 recruit info in the the near future. I'd like to add that we also have two interested prospects that are on ESPN's Top 150 watch list: Halapouliva Vaitai - OT, 6'5", 265 lbs., Haltom HS, TX Michael Wilson - OT, 6'6", 253 lbs., Aledo HS, TX
  11. Western Kentucky!! (Rivals doesn't show a North Texas offer.)
  12. Wow, UTSA got Tevin Williams from Euless Trinity? I wish we could have stolen him too.
  13. Greater Houston Area Top 100 (Houston Chronicle)
  14. Kerry Swarn Scouts profile Other information on Swarn can be found here and here. Thanks to OT for the tip.
  15. Just to clarify, Julian Herron didn't willingly leave SMU. He was forced out when June Jones cleaned house.
  16. Yes, I noticed a trend starting last year. Their new coach, Willie Taggart (hired last season from Stanford) isn't afraid to go after the top talent. It would appear that Taggart extends offers to just about every player they contact. At one point last year, I seem to recall Western Kentucky had extended somewhere around 200 scholarship offers and, as of today, they have 146 offers out for the 2011 class. Compared that to our 71 for 2011. Now, obviously, they aren't going to sign even 1/4 of those but, at least, they are trying. They just missed on a couple of 4 stars last year.
  17. Cameron Brown - Rivals, ESPN/Scouts, Inc. WR, 6'2", 195, 4.59 40, Liberty HS, Frisco, TX - interested in Arizona, Houston, Iowa, Kansas State, Louisiana-Monroe, North Texas, Tulsa, UTEP, Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky Rivals ratings - 3 stars/5.5 ESPN/Scouts Inc - 2 stars/75. Brown was committed to Minnesota but is back on the market after Tim Brewster's firing. As of today, his only known offer is from Western Kentucky
  18. Kerry Swarn 2010 highlight video (#6): Lloyd Carrington 2010 highlight video (#4): I'd like to get both of these kids. However, I just learned that Carrington was reported on January 7, 2011, to have narrowed his choices to four teams (Cal, Nevada, Tulsa, and Utah), with Utah leading. Of course, that doesn't mean we don't still have a chance, especially if we can land Swarn.
  19. From the MWC board: I'm sure that was tongue-in-cheek comment but I think it's time to get a restraining order against Karl Benson and the WeAC.
  20. We may have an outside shot at getting this kid to stay closer to home. From what I understand, he's recently changed his verbal commitment to Arizona (made in June) from "solid" to "soft." Check the DB prospect blog to see another Lincoln HS DB, with a North Texas offer, that may influence Swarn's decision. Kerry Swarn - Rivals, Scout, ESPN - S, 6'2", 190 lbs, 4.6 40, Lincoln HS, Dallas, TX - interested in Arizona, Baylor, Colorado State, East Carolina, Iowa State, North Texas, Vanderbilt and West Virginia Rivals ratings - 3 stars/5.6 rating ESPN/Scouts Inc. rating - 3 stars/75 rating Scout ratings - 2 stars/#132 ranked Safety in the nation Offers from Arizona, Baylor, East Carolina, Iowa and North Texas. Was a solid verbal to Arizona but has switched his commitment to a soft verbal. Committed to Arizona - 6/10/10
  21. Dorman committed to Colorado yesterday, 1/14.
  22. I guess that depends on the perspective. I'm sure TSU and UTSA are ecstatic with the news, but it's still a crap conference and should be easily considered the worst FBS football conference. The schools who have been there for a while (La Tech, USU, Idaho and NMSU) would be gone tomorrow if any other FBS conference extended an invite. You could probably say the same for any of the football schools, including TSU and UTSA. No one really desires to be in the WAC long term. Still, I could see one team benefiting from the weak WAC (which I'll go ahead and nickname the WeAC) with a winning record, year after year, simply because they'll play a WeAC schedule.
  23. It looks like that clause already takes that possibility into consideration. With the current membership, they have eight teams, seven of which play football. The clause requires only seven teams to remain a FBS conference, provided that 6 of those teams play football. If USU bolts for MWC, they would still meet the minimum criteria.
  24. Good luck to Dodge and good luck to Pitt. After 3+ years with the well respected QB guru, I've never seen so much uncertainty for UNT at the QB position. With Daniel, McElroy, Padron and Piland all having started for FBS bowl teams, clearly, someone at SLC was capable of recognizing and developing QB talent...
