Agreed, if this is true then this is beyond embarrassing. Even as a coach of youth teams, I'd never dream of setting .500 as an end goal before the season even started.

Who will be our starting QB by Conference Play ?
gangrene replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, you know the saying, the backup QB(s) is the most popular player on the team. That statement is more fitting when the returning starter hasn't done much to validate himself. -
Good news and bad news out of #1 UNT scrimmage

I think my idea of magical is the same as yours...and it's not 6 wins. -

What's magical about 6 wins? -
Yeah, I tried that in '09 against Western Kentucky...I'm still reminded of it today.

Ah, I missed that, thanks.

Anyone know who will carry the Rice game on Halloween? I read in the 2013 schedule threat that it was going to be the only game on TV that night. But, according to the ESPN 2013 TV schedule, not only are there more games being televised, but we're not one of them: Thurs., Oct. 31 South Florida at Houston 7 p.m. ESPN Thurs., Oct. 31 Louisiana-Monroe at Troy 7:30 p.m. ESPNU Thurs., Oct. 31 Arizona State at Washington State 10:30 p.m. ESPN Nevermind, I just found my answer. It looks like this game will be carried by Fox Sports SW. Great, we scheduled a game on Halloween for a regional broadcast, rather than national. This is the home game I was most looking forward to attending. However, my 6 and 1 year olds trick-or-treating takes priority. I guess I should be thankful I live within the regional broadcast footprint so I can watch the second half?

Too early? http://www.coacheshotseat.com/CoachesHotSeatRanking.htm I don't see any coaches for our 2013 opponents on the hot seat, but a few are on the edge (including DMac).

LOL, well it's still waaay early for oddsmakers to post lines. I've only found one site that even has odds posted this early. I'd love to get it at -6, but I suspect it will be somewhere between 17 and 21 by game day.

Early line in Vegas has us favored by 6. In addition to the above assessment, I'll add...Idaho has a first-year coaching staff and was left out in the cold during the conference realignment (for this season anyway). 2012 record was 1-11. The lost their top six tacklers from last season but, considering their defense surrendered 197 rushing yards per game and 275 passing yards per game, that might be a good thing. Last season's offense only averaged 90.5 yards on the ground and 225 in the air. But, again, most of those guys are gone...the projected starting QB (per The Sporting News), Taylor Davis, only started a single game last season and their projected starting RB is a JUCO transfer. However, most of their O-line returns (and they have some decent size - average 6'4" and 307 pounds) as do their WRs. I agree with Billy, we need to score often, preferably touchdowns, but we should also be able to contain their offense. I think we win this one by 10 points, based on coaching experience, key returning starters and the home field advantage.

UTSA is our week 1 opponent, no?
-
Work and family commitments have prevented me from spending much time on GMG lately. So, now that I'm perusing the board, I have to admit I am quite surprised by the number of threads about UTSA on the board. It smells like someone is trying to create an instant rivalry. Now I do understand UTSA is (unfortunately) in the same conference as us, but they have a long, long way to go to earn my respect, as a BCS opponent, and even longer to be considered a legitimate rival. I think UTSA's inclusion in CUSA is a joke and if we lose to them this year or within the next five years, I will be completely and utterly embarrassed. Should that occur, that will be my last straw and I'll be officially done with this program. I expect to beat UTSA by no fewer than 35 points this season. Ironically, I've just contributed to the building of a rivalry, but it's nothing a few years of 50 point blowouts won't squash.

QB Brock Berglund to North Texas: ITS OFFICIAL!
gangrene replied to sparkmank's topic in Mean Green Football
I know someone that ruptured an eardrum just by flying on a plane with a cold. I also know someone that broke her jaw by yawning. Just sayin'.... Besides, he said he passed a polygraph test, what more proof do you need? In today's internet-informed society, baggage never completely goes away but, as I posted before, I'm willing to give the kid a fresh start and not bring up his past problems. Isn't that basically what we've done with Coach Mac? -

Any T.V Upgrades for Football Season?
gangrene replied to Side Show Joe's topic in Mean Green Football
Can't wait 'til football season. I'be been so busy this last year..we just moved into s new home with a media room and I bought a 3-d projector with a 100" screen. I haven't yet had time to install it or I'd post a picture. I'm looking forward to things slowing down a bit so I can be more active on the site again. But, that may be difficult with a 7-month old. -

Have to agree with this...never will understand the logic of scaring off recruits by signing quality athletes. I want guys who believe they can beat out whoever may be on the roster now or in the future.

2012 Mean Green Football Schedule
gangrene replied to MeanGreenWithEnvy's topic in Mean Green Football
I echo those thoughts. We have a weak, but winnable schedule and the nationally televised game should not be discounted...even if it is a Tuesday. -
Has he been given his official release from Texas Tech yet? I can't imagine they'd deny him his request, but I haven't seen it reported yet. I don't imagine we'll have to wait too long for his decision, once the release is granted.

Okay, I just read that OU is opening...
gangrene replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
I'd like to see us host Washington State next year (I know, they're booked solid) or in 2013. It'd be Leach's first trip back to the Lone Star state and Wazzu is very beatable right now.
