  1. I get it too and who cares? As long as they mention North and Texas, everyone should know who they are talking about. Yawn, we have much bigger problems to focus on. It feels so juvenile to complain about what name people use when they reference us. It's sort of like Prince changing his name to some symbol and expecting everyone to stop calling him Prince.
  2. Another source: http://www.coacheshotseat.com/CFBCoachesSalaries.htm I started some research yesterday, but didn't get it finished. I was looking at current FBS coaches who have taken fairly significant pay cuts over the course of their careers. Larry Coker, UTSA – current salary is $425,000, was $2MM at Miami in 2006 Dennis Franchione, Texas State – current salary is $425,000, was $2MM at TAMU in 2005 Terry Bowden, Akron – current salary is $425,000, reportedly had a base salary of $155K per year at Auburn in 1998 Frank Solich - $600,000, $839,260 at Nebraska in 2003 Skip Holtz - $600,000, $2MM at USF Norm Chow - $725,000, $1MM as OC for Tennessee Titans Bob Davie - $825,000, base at Notre Dame was around $550K in 2001 Point I was trying to prove is that coaches past salaries should not be a be-all, end-all measuring stick for their interest in the salary we can offer.
  3. What should really expect of our AD? The Dynamic Role Of The Modern Day College Athletics Director I've highlighted areas where I find our current AD to be performing below expectations. I think the first section needs no further explanation. Section two is highlighted because I feel we are poorly prepared for the next round of conference realignment. We have a lot of pieces in place but a lack of winning and low attendance are oftentimes deal breakers in these discussions. And section 3 is where I find the AD to be most lacking. I've been asking this question for years; who is in charge of UNT's sports marketing strategy and why is it so poorly managed? I work in the marketing industry and have had sponsorship proposals pitched to me by almost every college program you can think of (FBS and FCS), everyone that is EXCEPT UNT. I'm privy to an agreement by a global company that just signed a multi-year, multi-million contract to sponsor college athletics with over 100 universities throughout the country. Guess who's not one of them? North Texas! Guess who is on that list? SMU, UTA, Texas State, UTSA, ULM, La Tech, Rice, UAB, UTEP and the Southland Conference. I'll stop there. See here for a list of schools represented by two of the top sports marketing companies: http://www.imgcollege.com/ http://learfieldsports.com/university-partners/
  4. I don't really have an opinion on the banner, but I fail to see how this is any different from creating a firemackbrown.com website or the countless other things fan bases have done to voice their displeasure. Even Idaho is taking action: Frustrated Idaho Fan Fills Campus With Flyers Calling For Paul Petrino's Firing Disgruntled Miami fans flew the funniest Al Golden banner over the stadium Wake Forest fans take out billboard calling for firing of coach Jeff Bzdelik Michigan fans march on UM president's home calling for the firing of coach Brady Hoke and AD Dave Brandon
  5. Mike Norvell (Arizona State – offensive coordinator / quarterbacks / deputy head coach): In his three years at Arizona State, the Sun Devils have averaged 38 points per game and scored 50-plus points in 12 different games. Norvell has played a big part in elevating the talent through recruiting at Arizona State, and the program has finished the 2013 season ranked No. 20 and the 2014 season ranked No. 12 in the polls. In 2013, the Sun Devils were Pac-12 South champs. Todd Graham has stated that Norvell is “the best I’ve ever been around,” and that includes Gus Malzahn and Chad Morris. Graham has also stated, “He’s the best in the business.” Norvell previously spent one season at Pitt, four years at Tulsa, and one season at Central Arkansas. He is 33 years old. If Arizona State thrives again offensively this season, Norvell could emerge during the coaching carousel season. Norvell reportedly earns a salary of $900,000, and he was given the title of deputy head coach in December 2013. http://www.thesundevils.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=207923333
  6. This fan base is frustrating. We think we're too good for an old guy with multiple national championship appearances and Texas ties, yet we don't think we're appealing enough to lure a young, up-and-coming coach away from a $475K salary and the MAC. Does everyone need to be reminded who our top 3 candidates were back in 2006? footballscoop says it is down to 3 Let the naysayers start the excuses for why the two we didn't hire from that list would have never come here in the first place. I'm sure we'd find a way to turn down Bear Bryant in his prime.
  7. Not exactly clear as to what you're implying...but I'm going to assume you think he has his sights set higher than North Texas?
  8. For No. 20 Toledo and Matt Campbell, little things lead to big success This guys needs to be interviewed. He doesn't have Texas ties, but he's young, energetic, affordable (for now) and he wins. Toledo is ranked #20? Really? I'm sure he'll get scooped up by a P5 school but he most definitely fits the profile of what UNT needs in our next coach.
  9. The definition of insanity? Following UNT Football and expecting different results.
  10. Abner Haynes played for Dodge? Why do we have to hire an offensive or defensive minded coach? Why can't we just hire a winning minded coach?
  11. I don't either. Kudos to Vito for asking the question we all want to ask. ADs generally are extended the courtesy of being allowed to resign, rather than getting t fired which, I'm sure, is why he phrased the question that way.
  12. I think RV and the BOR have the charts upside down again:
  13. Yes, but only if we beat Tennessee 66-7.
  14. Too funny, I saw that too and had the same reaction. In fact, I had to look at the time stamp on the post three times just to make sure I wasn't reading a thread from 2009. I don't know where they are getting that information but I'm going to say they have their facts wrong. If Jeff Bower's name shows up on a short list of coaches, reported by a reliable source, I'll just peace out and forgot about UNT football forever. In fact, I'll probably (see what I did there - left myself an out) do that if RV has anything to do with this hire.
  15. Whole-heartedly agree with everything you just said. The fact that our alumni/fan base can so easily dismiss the thought, while really not all that surprising, speaks volumes about why we find ourselves in this situation in the first place. Many scoffed at UTSA's hiring of Larry Coker who, arguably, had a far lesser resume than Mack Brown. UTSA is down this year but they've kicked our ass every year we've played them and are no where near the laughing stock many of us (myself included) had hoped they'd be. And for those that say Mack Brown is too old, he's 64. Bill Snyder, whose K-State team almost knocked off #2 TCU and # 20 Oklahoma State, is 76. So, age shouldn't necessarily be a deciding factor. Just to be clear, this was a tongue-in-cheek suggestion - I'm not endorsing Mack Brown as our top HC candidate, but we'd be rather foolish to pass on him if he wanted the HC job.
  16. Mack Brown: On the possibility of returning to coaching, Mack Brown told Paul Finebaum yesterday that “I really haven’t thought about (coaching) a lot, but I’ve told ESPN that if anybody wants to talk to me, I’d love to talk to them and see if the fire is still there. But I haven’t had that call yet.” Well, maybe my subject line was a bit misleading, but you never know until you ask.
  17. North Texas Doesn't Screw Around, Heads Roll Fast I don't know, this feels sort of like one bullied kid feeling sorry for another.
  18. Where's the "MGB Breaking News: AD Rick Villareal to step down/resign/fired/gets reassigned/goes on a permanent fishing trip" article?
  19. In this case, no news is certainly not good news.
  20. Can't we just dust off the 2010 Neinas report, update a few dates and attendance figures, and save ourselves the money and trouble of going through this charade again? Or will there actually be a coaching recommendation this time?
  21. How many lives does RV the cat have left? We had numerous discussions about RV's ability to hire a quality FBS HC in 2006 and then again in 2009. Why is RV immune from the firing line? Rick Villareal should not be allowed to hire our next HC
  22. Yep, and that worked out so well we should do it again. Chuck Neinas, do you need another easy $40K?
  23. I have to say, I enjoyed the spring game more.
