Yes Stebo, Rosalyn and I both have banners with our picture, name, number, and the years we played on them. As far as a ceremony, I was just told it would be some time next year.

The Tycoons finished the regular season 17-9. They have been given the #4 seed in the playoffs and will take on Bellevue Thursday night (March 10) at 7:30PM, W.G. Thomas Coliseum in Haltom City. This is single elimination! If the Tycoons win on Thursday, they will play Maryland Saturday night (March 12), same place and same time. Chris Davis is currently #5 in our division (#18 in the league) in scoring with 18 ppg. He is shooting 59% from the floor, 34% from the 3 and 83% from the free throw line. If anyone would like to attend the game(s), please let me know. I expect these guys to win both games, which will put them in the Final Four to be played next week. Please come out and show your support if you can. On another note, I was sad to see the UNT men and women lose in the tournament. The girl's game was very close and I wish we could have drawn a charge on #23 when she took the last drive in OT. I hate that none of our teams are playing today or tomorrow. The girls should continue to get better since everyone is coming back and they're adding some good recruits. The same should be true with the men. By the way, I saw the banners and thought they looked really good. I didn't expect them to put anything up but I'm glad they did. Thanks to the people who made that happen. All of the new banners look nice and hopefully we'll add more in the years to come.

All four of these games should be pretty good. If you have nothing better to do on a Saturday evening and you like high school basketball, please attend. You shouldn't be disappointed. $25 for the best seats in the house!

Tycoons pull out victory on technical-foul free throw By Avery Holton Special to the Star-Telegram HALTOM CITY - George Leach is used to blocking shots. Just look up his name at Indiana University, where he finished fourth all-time in rejections. But even Leach -- who finished with 35 points, 15 boards and six blocks -- couldn't help Carolina recover from a costly mistake Monday. The Thunder carried only six players into Monday's game against Texas, yet pushed the Tycoons to the game's final play before falling 94-93 at Thomas Coliseum. Texas, itself down to eight players because of injuries, hit 11 of its last 14 free throws, including Jimmy King's game-winner with 2.3 seconds left. The free throw came after Carolina drew a technical foul for calling a timeout it didn't have. "We had to step it up as a team late, and we did," said Chris Davis, who hit a pair of free throws with less than three minutes remaining to help the Tycoons go ahead by three. "Sometimes all the shots don't fall, but you keep shooting. We work on free throws every day, so it's good it came down to that." Playing in his first road game, Leach hit 16 of 31 shots and pulled down 11 defensive rebounds to lead his team. DeRon Rutledge paced the Tycoons with 30 points and a game-high 17 boards. Texas (14-7) led 91-88 with under a minute to play when Eric Meche sank a deep three for Carolina (7-9) to tie the score. Jamal Shiver then hit two free throws with 21.2 seconds left to tilt the game in the Thunder's favor. Jabari Johnson drove in for a lay-in with nine seconds left, tying the score for the sixth time in the fourth period. Carolina took possession with 2.3 seconds remaining. Texas clamped down on defense on the inbounds play, forcing the Thunder to call for the unavailable timeout. That led to the technical and King's game-winning free throw. That's a good question, but I honestly don't think cost is the issue. I've heard that people have already donated money for the cause, but they just haven't taken the time to do it. I'm not sure what the real reason (or excuse) is but I think it will take several people asking about it or complaining, and those complaints getting to the right people.

Well, this story is kinda weird. Basically, this co-owner was the only person who didn't want Freije playing. She had nothing to do with signing him and it sounds like she just didn't want to fork over her part of the $5,000 they owed Freije for that game. The funny part is, as a co-owner, she can't decide to fire the coach and fold the team on her own. The other two people will have a say so. If one of the co-owners and the GM signed the guy, I don't see them agreeing with not playing him, especially since their star player, Dontae Jones, left the team before that game to go play in Korea. One of the co-owners (Tony Bucher I believe) is Sally Anthony's husband though so who knows what will happen? That was just crazy for her to act like that during the game in front of everybody. How embarrassing to get escorted off the court.....

Co-owner and CEO Sally Anthony was unhappy that McElhiney was playing Matt Freije after Anthony instructed that he be benched. The argument over the former Vanderbilt star's playing time began during the third quarter and apparently escalated when Anthony attempted to remove McElhiney as coach during the team's 110-109 win over the Kansas City Knights. Anthony was eventually restrained by security guards and taken off the floor. "I called my coach a couple of hours before the game and said, 'I don't want him playing,'" Anthony told The Tennessean after the game. "She ignored me. I walked onto the court and said I'm her boss and she needed to bench him." McElhiney declined comment when reached at her home on Sunday by The Associated Press. The team is 17-7 so far this season under the 23-year-old, a former point guard for Vanderbilt who was taken in the third round of the 2003 WNBA draft by the Indiana Fever but released before playing a game. Rhythm forward Adam Sonn said he was shocked by the situation. "It was something that shouldn't happen at any level of sports," Sonn told WKRN-TV of Nashville. "It's something that's sad to see." Anthony, a singer who also has her own record label and a Web site promoting female artists, said she was just trying to protect her players. "My co-owner and my GM decided to pay Matt Freije to have the name here," she said. "He came in for two games. Our players are struggling financially." According to Anthony, Freije, Vanderbilt's all-time leading scorer, was paid $10,000 to play two games for the Rhythm. Anthony also had a message for members of her staff and players who might dispute her actions. "If they're willing to stick their neck out for Ashley, and that would be dumb, I would fold the team right now," she said. "If I say no it should be no. She's done. She's fired." Assistant coach Scott Flatt said in a statement the team still considers McElhiney its head coach. "Sally was one of three owners acting alone. As far as we're concerned Ashley is the coach of the team right now." The other owners listed on the Nashville Rhythm's Web site are Justin Christian and Tony Bucher.

Well, the story is that Coach Slinker really has been trying to get them to do it but they're just not listening. I think the consensus is that it's just not really a priority in the front office right now. Thanks SUMG.....I think Roz and I both have pretty much put a lid on our excitement since this has happened 3 years in a row now. Hopefully one day someone will make it happen. Until then.....

We discussed this before, but I got confirmation yesterday that they will NOT be retiring #44 and #25 on February 12th. I told you all that they were because that's what I was told a few months ago, but they decided against it once again. The reason I was given is that they've spent all of their time and resources preparing for the conference tournament and, since they didn't have time to do it right, they decided not to do it at all. Just FYI for those involved in the discussion before.

The Tycoons are now 12-5 after defeating Mississippi 105-102! Deron Rutledge led the team with 27 points and 14 rebounds, Donald Harris (7 rebounds) and Jabari Johnson (5 assists) each added 22 and Chris Davis had 18. Tycoons overcome rough start, prevail By Kelly Morris Special to the Star-Telegram HALTOM CITY - The Texas Tycoons showed Wednesday that a little rest is not always a good thing. The Louisiana Cajun Pelicans, who were still searching for their first victory of the season, raced to a 10-0 lead. But the Tycoons were able to bounce back and hang on, overcoming the pesky Pelicans 120-100 at W.G. Thomas Coliseum. "We had nine days off, and it's hard to simulate game settings," Tycoons coach Steve Tucker said. "We came out flat, but once we got in the rhythm, we played a lot better." The Tycoons (10-4) came out more like a team that needed rest. They missed their first four shots and were outrebounded 5-1 with 4:49 remaining in the first quarter. Despite being outrebounded 24-14 in the first half, the Tycoons still managed to take a 54-42 halftime lead thanks to 15 first-half points from Donald Harris and 13 first-half turnovers by the Pelicans. Harris led all scorers with 27 points. DeRon Rutledge finished with 23 points and Chris Davis added 20. Carl Boyd had a team-high 25 points for Louisiana. The Pelicans (0-7) cut the Tycoons' lead to eight at the start of the second half. But the Tycoons built a 17-point lead in the third quarter, and the Pelicans reached no closer than 11. "They made a little run at the end of the third, but we just toughed it out," Rutledge said. "We just had to get the kinks out." TYCOONS 120, LOUISIANA 100 *Jabari Johnson scored 14 points and had a career high 12 assists in last night's game. He also contributed 6 rebounds and 4 steals for the Tycoons. Thanks to the people who have already come out. By the way, Chris is our leading scorer. He's averaging 17 points and shooting the ball very well (61% FG, 39% 3FG, 89% FT). Jabari is second with 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists per game. Degrate is averaging 6 points and 4 rebounds.

Attendance is around 500 people per game. We definitely need more!

The Tycoons are now 8-2 after a big win over the Calgary Drillers last night. We had 6 players score in double figures. Chris Davis led the team with 23 points. Ed Williams and Johnny Tyson followed with 17 and 7 each. Jabari Johnson added 13 points and 8 assists. Dameon Sansom and Michael Degrate each had 12. Former Boston Celtic Nate Driggers scored 24 points with 5 boards for the Drillers while Damian Owens had 24 points and 4 boards. The Tycoons will host Kansas City once again next Tuesday, December 21st at W.G. Thomas Coliseum. If you would like to attend the game, please let me know. We defeated KC last time they were here so they will be looking for revenge. Oliver "Big O" Miller will be making his debut this game. I was only able to listen to the first half because the Tycoons had a game last night. I must admit I was excited about the way the women were playing. I'm not sure what happened in the second half, but I'm pretty sure Coach Conradt got into her team at halftime. They had no choice but to come out and play better. I just wish we could have held on. That would have been big!
