  1. I wish Edwards could play the SF. That's really where he should be. He's struggling real bad. He came with so much hype out of high school. He is stuck in the rut of thinking he should stil be a Center dominating high schoolers.
  2. Thanks for Emmitt and the Tailgating Brigade for the comradery and welcoming me. I have to say that Quincy Williams is playing his best ball ever. He's looking great. Sure, tonight was against guys smaller than him, but he's been showing up this year pretty much game in and game out. People are about to stop talking about how much better Sheldon is than Quincy as he ie establishing himself as a force. I am real excited about the rest of the year and next year with Q. KD didn't look so great, but that's to be expected. He'll get his stroke back soon. Calvin had an off shooting night (7 of 21), but man, he can shoot.....wow. I think he's the most dangerous outside shooter in the conference. Howerton...oh Howerton...you are 6-10 man, quit bringing the ball down to your knees and go up strong!! I think Mangrum will be a great scorer in a few years and quite a threat from the outside. His cousin, Kenneth, would be proud....lol.
  3. I remember we recruited Jamario's brother at one time. That was two years ago. Do you know if he ever did anything in JUCO? I thank his name was Damario Thomas.
  4. I heard we got ripped off in the UT game and many are saying it was a conspiracy. I started going to UNT in 1990. THat was Scott Davis' senior year and Eric Pegram was on the team. It was Corky's last year. I think we underachieved that year, but we did beat SMU 14-7. My memory of that year was the classless act of NE Louisiana after they beat us at home in the home finale in 1990. That made me sick too.
  5. Great! Please continue to show old UNT games - football and basketball. I'll keep watching for sure. Let me also suggest three games from the past. UNT vs Oklahoma State football from Stillwater 1994 or 1995 (I think 1995), UNT vs. McNeese State football 1994 and UNT vs. Nicholls State basketball - 1994 (Jesse Ratliff scored 42 that night and pulled down 22 rebounds and ended up SI College Basketball top 5 or some such. Keep up the good work. I am a former RTVF major and NTTV person (I am not asking you to show the above games because I was on the broadcasts....lol. Those are actually good games)...
  6. I am watching my mentor, Bill Mercer, right now on Channel 22 in Denton doing a preview of the 1988 season. I was only 16 and in high school and had no idea I was going to UNT at the time. But, I have heard great things about the 1988 team. Scott Davis was a sophomore, and I got a sneak peak of some 1987 highlights featuring Marcus Camper. Neat experience seeing this. Someone....Tell me about the 1988 team....please daddy....lol.
  7. Will Stewart be back? When?
  8. IT doesn't matter to me. We'll be in good shape whether it's Sturns or Dennis starting. Sturns will deserve it after having put in that much time off the bench. But, Jones' philisophy is that it doesn't matter who starts. It matters who finishes.
  9. I had the opportunity to watch Collin Dennis play 3 games in high school as a shooting guard at Richland High School. He went head to head with Brett McDade and also with Austin Jackson in 2 of those games. What I saw was one of the best pure scorers and shooters I've seen in a long time. He can shoot from the outside, pull up for the medium range jumper, and he is not afraid to take it to the hole. He outplayed McDade and Jackson in those 3 games. He ended up as one of the top two or three scorers in Dallas Fort Worth his junior and senior seasons. I hadn't seen such a great pure scorer or shooter in high school since Stanley Bonewitz at SA East Central. I have a feeling UNT purused him his senior year but he decided to try the beaches of Florida instead. You can't blame him. I bet that JJ's pursuit of him during his high school career were primary reasons he pursued talking to us and decided to transfer here. We won't lose much at the shooting guard next year. I love Watson and Davis of course. But, I think Dennis will find a groove after a month or so into the season. He'll average 20 PPG in conference next year.
  10. Merry Christmas to all. Being Green is about to be the "in thing" in 2007....trust me.
  11. Frankly, I'm offended by that posting on the WKU web site. The person who posted it is obviously a little biggot and just assumed that was some sort of a gang sign. That's ridiculous. I know Sturns has had some problems, but just because he's from Fort Worth and black doesn't mean he is a gang member. That ticks me off. I'm sorry that everyone one of our players doesn't look like WKU Coach Darren Horn or like Mr. Goody Two Shoes Courtney Lee. I'm sorry I had to rant. Let's whip their you know what's two more times this year.
  12. Next year's starting 5 PG - Ben Bell SG - Collin Dennis (awesome shooter and can drive) SF - Roderick Flemings PF - Q (as a senior, he'll be tough!) C - Keith Wooden (much improvement forecasted) Bench PG - Insert Recruit Here, Sturns SG - Sturns and Mangrum SF - Insert Recruit Here PF - Harold Stewart, Harold Edwards C - Howerton, J. Jackson We are not losing that much even though KD and C Dub are great players. Dennis and Flemings can flat out play. Great job getting those two here Coach Jones!
  13. For Christmas, I'd love Mean Green Santa to help Coach Dodge deliver at least three good Dragon recruits and a top 50 recruitng class in the country.
  14. Great. KD back makes us the best in the conference at the 1-3 positions combined. I just don't want to lose Harold Stewart. Coach Jones said he needs to get his personal situation straight or some such during his interview with Hank. We need Stewart off the bench because we are not deep at PF after Q.
  15. I wish like crazy we'd win the SBC Tournament, but I don't see that happening. We are deep which gives us a better chance than ever. But, I'd say we lose a heartbraker in the semis and finish with 20 or 21 wins. I predict NIT.
  16. Here are some of the seniors who I saw this year broadcasting games that we should definitely go after. Let's start with the Dragons: Anthony Ford - WR Blake Tomlin - WR the all state OL (Robert Hill?) Justin Padron - MLB (can't bellieve more people aren't looking at him) Bryce Saldi - DE (probalby will go to Texas Tech where his brother went) Kyle Russo- DE (great player, can play the run very well) OTHER SCHOOLS I SAW William Cole - QB (Cedar Hill) - would convert to WR and be awesome as well as a terrific PG for Coach Jones Thompson - DL (Cedar Hill) - amazing game in the state final, good size John Jones - OL (Cedar Hill) = taken by Baylor Chris Francis - MLB (Cedar Hill) - the real deal, would contend for a starting job as a freshman (better than Padron) Marcus King - WR (Euless Trinity) - would have caught 16 TD passes over 1,000 yards in SLC Offense Youri Yenga - DE (Euless Trinity) - would probably be converted to LB but can definitely rush the passer OL - about 4 of them (Euless Trinity) Jordan Scroggins - TE (Euless Trinity) - best NFL prospect on the team Ricco Richards - RB (Bronsboro) - what amazing feet this guy has to run out of tackles...amazing footwork Cy Zimmerman - S (Argyle) - has great instincts for the football and can HIT, needs weight Brandon Cobb - QB (Decatur) - worth looking at, not on the top of my list Jordan Buckley - WR (FM Marcus) - good speed, can be developed more David Neill - DT (FM Marcus) - already taken (darn) - Texas Tech Neal Tivis - DT / OL (Sanger) - we are not on his list, or should I say...WERE NOT (past tense) Nathan Pegues - RB (Sanger) - has a nose for the end zone, can run between tackles well (not on the top of my list) Houston St. Pius X had three great players including two receivers and a DL / RB who would probably be a great LB (I'm sure there were more, I'm just brain dead right now).
  17. Riley Dodge is an oustanding young man. He would be a fantastic addition to the program. Do I think he's the second coming of Mitch Maher playing at a higher level of football? I'm not sure. I think he will be much more highly recruited than Mitch, but talent wise there is not that much difference. The biggest difference is that Riley will immediately be familiar with the offense and will fit in right away to his dad's scheme of offense. There are several other current or former Dragon receivers who would be a good fit here. Rumor has it that Corbin Smiter is not happy at Rice. Also, I think that Blake Tomlin or Anthony Ford would be great recruits this year. Blake Cantu is even better but we have to wait a whole year to get him. I don't see Clint Renfro transferring, but I wish. I stray off the subject. Yes, I'd LOVE to see Riley here. Put some weight on the boy though, please.
  18. The Wolverine style one looks fantastic.
  19. We are very lucky to have Leonard Hopkins at UNT. It would be great to have him back for another year. At the Southern game, I was telling a fan, "Leonard doesn't dunk anymore. He has no ups because of his leg injuries." Then, early in the second half, Leonard Hopkins had one of the most spectacular dunks I've ever seen at UNT. It made me eat my words, but it was definitely worth it. I couldn't believe my eyes. I just stood up with mouth wide open, and then sat and inserted foot. It was great.
  20. To be honest, the loss of Justin Barnett will help this team. It's good to see Quincy Williams and Jeffrey Simpson get quality playing time. Simpson is a good player who needs more minutes to show what he's got. He's just not comfortable yet. He's capable of hitting the medium range jumper and of blocking many shots. When Barnett returns, then we'll have 3 players who can all play quality minutes.
  21. It scares me that New Orleans is rated so low. I think they would give us fits. Bo McCaleb is the real deal at their point guard position. If we didn't have Isaac Hines, we'd be dead meat. U La La is the best in the conference, and we have to shoot for them. But, their up tempo game suites our style. I think we are more disciplined than them and can beat them in a tourney game. In summary, anyone can beat anyone in this conference. There's not THAT much difference from best to worst in the SBC.
