Announcer is just plain clueless.

Good effort by the second unit! Keep shooting Mangrum! I am glad Matlock isn't scared but he shouldn't shoot unless feet completely set and around 3 seconds to shoot....
-
With Sykes hurt, we need to pound down low to get more bigs in foul trouble and more spares in the game. Shorter and Thompson need to continue to take it to the rack. Good perimeter defense so far.

Wow! I've discovered something new! This is awesome (channelsurfing.net) and I am not in the dog house for doing this either!....lol

What Was The Thinking Around The Time When The Pit Was Built ?
BleedGreen replied to calvin's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I believe in JJ. I think we lift the Pit to 5,000 - 6,000 people next year. It's up to some of us to continue to recruit people to come. It's the best entertainment value in town. $12.00 to watch a good Division I team in action. Are you kidding me? Everyone commit to inviting someone new to games next year. -
It sounds like the Roberson kid is a trouble maker. When you consider that both of those players hardly play in the game, then what were they so ticked about? It sounds like Kedrick got jumped by both of them. ....cowards!
-
I know. Let's sick a furious Kedrick Hogans on Lee Jackson and threaten him to resign Mafia Style. Then, Dr. Bataille becomes the new Godfather / Godmother and starts her family dynasty. Hogans can be her enforcer.
-
Sadly, Kedrick Hogans was involved in the fight with the ULL players and got jumped. He is okay though. Kedrick seems to have somewhat of a rep as a talker and possible hothead. I assume and can't firm that what happened was he was talking with some ULA LA acquaintances since he was from Louisiana too. He may have talked a little too much smack and then got jumped by the ticked off losers from Louisiana. Coach Jones and Coach Foy spent some time working to calm him down and that was not easy. We forget how much of a father that Coach Jones has to be in addition to his coaching duties. That's a big job too you know. Cops from UNT where there (woo hoo....lol) and did not initiate any arrests or criminal charges. I don't think there were injuries either. Kedrick needs to chill.

I thought Southern was in the SWAC conference with Jackson State and thus, a Division I school? so, that would mean 19 wins becuase Cameron did not count with a win against Monroe giving us 20 Division I wins?
-
This definitely needs to be a "Pack the Pit" promotion just like that of old. UNT Athletics needs to coordinate a large scale effort. I'm not seeing it. I am talking it up to coworkers wherever I can.
-
THat makes me feel better. I hope you're right. Maybe Collin will break out and start hitting some 3's for us.
-
I don't think we can count on winning all 3. I feel good about UALR after a 5 day rest and preparation. But, U La La is playing great. Hopefully, we have enough revenge in us and senior night motivation to win that one. But not real likely. THe Monroe game is proabbaly the best chance or a W. I say we go 2-1. Our lack of depth scares me these days.

Best Coaches In Unt History (Top 5)

I agree. There's definitely more to it. To leave the time with 3-7 games remaining is a definite red flag. Our depth is majorly hurt. I am thinking move Alzee to the back-up 2, Mangrum to the back up 3, and see if Matlock can spell Josh for 4-7 minutes per game.
-
It sounded like a great effort with a lot of determination at the end to win. I am still real concerned about us in the tournament due to lack of bench production. A first round bye is crucial.
-
Now, that's funny.....lol
-
interesting rotation of clearing the bench and bringing in a new 5 . I was scared when JJ did that. But, hey, I guess it's our version of 2 minutes of Hell for the opponents....lol. Opponents will quake in their shoes with Cam Spencer and Alzee coming off the bench....lol. Seriously though, I am happy that Alzee did well. This could be a huge confidence boost for him. I hope Eric did not reaggravate something. He's been playing so well.

I loved Coach Gales too. He was so funny. Here are my three favorite Jimmy Gales quotes. 1. "I don't know what Nash was thinkiin'. I told him to give the ball to Jesse." 2. "Boclair, I'm watching you. You like to start trouble." - speaking to David Boclair of the Denton Record-Chronicle 3. Shindla', if you dunk the ball, then I'll shave my head. (speaking about 6'11 Doug Schindler of Pilot Point) -
I have only been around since 1990 so bear with me. Here is my top 5 and bottom 5 list of coaches of all time at UNT. (Any sport) Top 5 1. Hayden Frye 2. Bill Blakeley 3. John Hedlund 4. Johnny Jones 5. Richard Lowe Bottom 5 1. Vic (Bad Hair) Trilli 2. Shanice (I love your smile) Stephens 3. 4. 5. Help.
-
I thought about Hedlund later after I sent that message. Good point.

Great post. I completely agree. Good job in defense of JJ. He's the best coach we've had in a long time in any sport.

Our bench is abolutely killing us. Of course, Dominique and Kedrick would have been the 6th and 7th men off the bench but still. Richard Thomas is doing nothing, obviously in the dog house. Collin and Jacob Holmen are making way too many mistakes right now It's said when Cam Spencer is the best off the bench but hey, at least he could maybe give us some minutes in Hot Springs. Without a decent bench, we go nowhere in the Sun Belt Tournament. The thoughts at the beginning of the year that we would have the deepest bench in the Belt is now turning into a major weakness.
-
Okay, I just can't let it rest. 1.) Alzee has way too much improvement to make as a shooter to be an effective 2. He may be able to be a decent 2 by the time he is a junior. He has way too much work to do as a shooter. He has to stay at the 1 for now. 2.) Regarding heights making a person their position in speaking of Josh. Is Earl Boykins a 2? Was Mugsy Bogues a 2? Was Spud Webb a 2? Josh is 5'8 at best. He is also our floor general. He is and will always be our starting PG. 3.) Magic Johnson.and Oscar Robertson were rare so don't go there.
