  1. Late bloomer. First year at QB was this year. First opportunity to show what he could do with the ball in his hands every play (was WR as a junior). His value as a kick and punt returner at the next level is reason enough for a scholarship offer, IMO.
  2. Of course I'm serious. One of the most important jobs of assistant coaches is recruiting. It is the lifeblood that allows a program success. Fail there, and you fail on the field. If you can't recruit to UNT, you don't need to be coaching at UNT.
  3. The answer is UNT never cared about football. They never hired and paid really good assistants. The good ones that were here left for better jobs. And fans never held anyone accountable. For anything. Terrible culture. A lack of commitment by the university showed in recruiting. Has that changed? Maybe. If Littrell doesn't have a good class and there are no changes to his staff, we will know it's the same old same old at UNT. Let's all hope Littrell and staff sign five 4 star recruits on Feb. 1
  4. A possible punt and kick returner, also. Love the speed this kid has. Also love the productivity. WR, QB, or RB, it'll work itself out. Speed and athleticism are the main thing. Good get. I wonder what position Army offered at. Surely not WR?
  5. No doubt. And there is a reason they are called exceptions. Because they are an extremely small percentage of the overall recruiting pool on both ends of the spectrum. Exception- a person or thing that is excluded from a general statement or does not follow a rule; a case to which a rule does not apply. Counting on Littrell to find 15 exceptions every recruiting class is a fools errand. If recruiting doesn't pick up, UNT won't win. Plain and simple. It doesn't matter whether they bust their ass 25 hours a day or not if they aren't winning recruiting battles. I'm not ok with the "well, they gave it the good ole college try." Problem is too many UNT fans have been perfectly fine with this. That's why this thing has sucked forever. I don't care if you work 5 hours a day as long as you are bringing talent into this program. I'd take that guy over a guy that worked his ass off but produced nothing. Every day of the week I'd take the 5 hour guy. No one is saying they aren't working, the fear is how they are working isn't working.
  6. He could be eligible by Sam Houston... If his hardship appeal is approved in time... We should hear something any day...
  7. Went to see Stephen Breyer speak at UTA last night. UTA President proudly proclaimed UTA the 18th ranked team in the nation by RPI. Breyer later joked that UTA was ranked ahead of Duke and that would upset the moderator, a Duke grad. And UNT has Tony Benford... For a 5th disasterous, program destroying year.
  8. It doesn't matter who you offer, it matters who you sign. Saying "Dodge lost recruiting battles, too" doesn't make Littrell a good recruiter.
  9. Of course. And being that he is a 2018 recruit, not a 2017 recruit like I first thought, I'm sure additional offers will come, whether he is a true 5 star or not...
  10. UTSA is doing fine. La. Tech also. The problem isn't UNT, it's been the PEOPLE that have been recruiting for UNT. Again, I see a long suffering fan transposing what he thinks a recruit should think about UNT onto a recruit, actually all DFW recruits. This is much more your issue than theirs. Hire a staff that knows how to recruit and you will reap the benefits. Ask UTSA
  11. I wouldn't say top of the line CUSA, but way ahead of what Dickey had when he was here. I had forgotten about Kennedy's knee injury. Also probably a factor in why he wasn't drafted.
  12. Well, if SL isn't the guy, WB did work with Dickey at Memphis. Could we see Dickey version 2 at UNT? Would Dickey be licking his chops to recruit to what we have now? Completely agree about Booger. The biggest surprise was when he went undrafted and didn't stick with the NFL team that signed him as a free agent (Denver, I believe?). I thought for sure he would be an 8 year NFLer. I don't know why no one else has been able to match Dickey's efforts. Especially DMac and SL (if this recruiting season holds to form). I don't know why we are getting our teeth kicked in head to head by UTSA. It makes no sense.
  13. Back to my worst fan base in America comment. It's ok to lose at UNT. That is the biggest problem this program faces.
  14. Easy to say when you are recruiting to Georgia and getting 4 star recruits on a yearly basis. It is the Jimmy and the Joes that matter.
  15. Cherry picking the exceptions is fun, but it's a TERRIBLE recruiting strategy. It would be interesting to know the date of that quote you posted from our DC. My guess is it was right after the signing of last year's class...
  16. I think if you are uncommitted in January and you only have 2 offers, that says a lot about what programs think/know about you, especially at QB. And simmer down. Cade Pearson isn't getting offered by UT.
  17. And added way before January... Pearson has one other FBS offer, from Wyoming. Otherwise, he is kinda Mason Fine. At least with Pearson, we can hold out hope that other offers didn't come because he was a hard commit to UNT.
  18. True 5 stars don't get their first offer in December, but whatever his ranking, I hope he commits to UNT.
  19. Pointing out the exceptions is always fun. Let me ask the board this question. Do you think Fine was Littrell's first choice at QB? His second? Fine was a late add because we had lost every other recruiting battle at QB. This isn't thing against Fine, it's just a fact. Losing every battle and then having to settle for a recruit with no other offers was Fine (he he) last year. It isn't this year. Expectations are different, or at least they should be. We are UNT, after all. No doubt we wait until Feb 1 to judge, but by comparing this year's class to last year's, you are already calling it a failure. Last year's class was understandably bad. This year's better not be, or else it will be a terrible sign for things to come. Also, Fine got that award by default. Because UNT's QB situation was that bad. The jury is still way out on what he will or won't be at UNT. Again, expecting all your recruits to be the exceptions to the rule isn't a very good recruiting plan. I'm glad Hamilton turned into a player (again assuming other freshmen in CUSA actually started at his position), but that isn't the rule.
  20. Don't know what two recruits (one with no other offers) from last year have to do with the conversation of this year's class, but ok.
  21. So we should just throw in the towel on one of the most talent rich areas in the country? Madness. Bill Snyder would have never succeeded at K St with that attitude. When he got there, K State was a NATIONAL joke. Same for Mangino at Kansas. Those two changed that perception (Mangino temporarily, Snyder permanently) for those 2 universities. If you want a G5 comparison, look no further than Western Michigan. I also think that is more your perception as a long suffering fan than any high school kid who would only know about 6 to 8 years of UNT history (which now includes 2 bowl games). It isn't like UTSA has a much better reputation to work with, and they are slaying it this year.
  22. And these aren't going to be guys with scholarship offers from other universities. At least not blueshirts at UNT (sure, Tennessee may be able to get a kid with resources and with other offers to wait a semester. That isn't happening at any CUSA school, especially UNT). It's a gray shirt that can participate in the fall practice. How has Caleb Chumbley worked out so far?
  23. Blue shirting isn't a path to a conference championship. And you are taking about one or two players a class., They were out there because of risks, academic or otherwise. Not a solid recruiting strategy... At all. You cite 4 players and then have to justify why 3 never started. Hardly an effective recruiting strategy.I know you are trying to be positive, but Littrell and staff did this last year because they were a new staff taking over a 1-11 disaster. That isn't the case this year. Recruiting should have already been better than we have seen. The grace period ends in 50 days, then we start to judge. Right now, it looks like that judgement will be harsh indeed.
  24. Teams don't perform when you lose recruiting battles on a consistent basis. Maybe this is a huge stealth recruiting plan. Maybe we land 8 or 10 guys with more than 8 G5 and above offers each. Odds are against that happening with 50 days left to recruit, but it could happen.
