Do you get the long term damage that would do to this program? I would love to recruit against UNT in that scenario.
-
But agreeing to let him coach out the remainder of the year brings about the VERY real possibility that this happens. When will YOU change your mind? When UNT is 0-10? 0-12? 0-15? And if you would change your mind then, why aren't you pushing now (other than you have never pushed for any change, ever)?

If Baker gave the coaches a free one year pass, he should be fired immediately for not researching UNT's programs and having no concept of how college athletics works. He has 4 years of game tape to evaluate Benford. If he is a great basketball guy, he would have seen the problems like the rest of us. Will you answer the question? Are you ok with UNT going 0-18 in conference play?

Can UNT win one conference game with Benford as coach?
UNT90 replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I'll have plenty of free time in future winters if this isn't dealt with before the end of the season. Maybe I'll start attending UTA or TCU games. I like college basketball, more than college football, actually, so if UNT confirms to me they don't care, I'll move along. Until that time I'll continue the fight. Will it matter? Time will tell. -

MGB: Firing Benford midseason would be a bad move for UNT
UNT90 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
To think RV gave 2 S about anyone but himself in his buyout negotiation is extremely... naive. -
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Dooley handed a gem of a program at FGC from the previous coach that left for a better job?

Which is going to make it exceedingly difficult to win a conference game. -

It's really really hard to pull on 0-fer in conference play. The odds are that at some point, some visiting team will be tired or simply underestimate UNT. But, if the players quit (already signs of this occurring), 0-18 is a very real possibility. -

You notice how those that are fine with Benford being allowed to coachout the year won't answer the question of whether they would be fine with UNT going 0-18 in conference? Do you wonder why that is? I don't. I know. It's because they are willing to cross their fingers and play the odds that Benford will win at least one home game before the season is out. Typical losing fan mentality that has caused this program to be the butt of jokes for years. Its because they know if they answer no, the follow up question is "then how long Are you willing to let this losing streak go before demanding action?" And they don't have an answer, nor do they want to answer, that question. So by not answering, they basically are saying they are fine with UNT going 0-18. Well, I'm not. Not even for the possibility for that to happen. And it's a VERY real possibility. -
But we aren't on the same page. You apparently are fine with Benford being allowed to go 0-18 in conference play. I am not. Thats a pretty stark difference.

MGB: Firing Benford midseason would be a bad move for UNT
UNT90 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Yep. Could have been avoided by firing him after any of the previous 4 years, but the UNT administration chose not to make that hard decision. This one is tougher? Well, tough S___. You put yourself and your new AD in this position. -

I define a lack of commitment from the President and BOR as refusing to fix a glaring problem hire four years ago, then 3 years ago, then 2 years ago, then last year, and finally this year if they refuse to do so. And yes, refusing to fix it this year will kill any future chance at my purchasing basketball season tickets. Forever. No matter what happens next year or 5 years from now. Why? See paragraph one. Now, my question still remains to you: are you ok losing every conference game this year with Benford being allowed to coach out the season? -

Looking at the schedule, the chances are good that UNT goes winless in conference play. Both FAU and FIU are awful, but UNT is equally or more awful and plays both these teams on the road, where UNT has won 1 time in the last 19 (?) tries. There isn't another winnable road game on the schedule, if any road game could be considered winnable at this point. As far as home games, the most winnable is UTEP. I don't think UNT will be favored in any other of the remaining games. Charolette ain't great, but they score a lot of points and UNT won't be able to keep up. Look for yourself. Try to find a win. It isn't easy: http://www.meangreensports.com/sports/m-baskbl/sched/ntex-m-baskbl-sched.html Are you ok going winless with Tony Benford finishing out the season? -

I WAS a season ticket holder. Cancelled after year one of Benford. If they want my business back, they need not to let this thing play out. Actually the last 3 years have been confirmation that the university doesn't care about the program. Not doing anything and letting Benford serve out the entire contract will just be verification that this attitude remains. And it doesn't matter who is AD, without a commitment from the president and the BOR, it's just the same ole UNT. Are you ok if UNT goes 0-fer for conference play? Because that is a VERY real possibility. I'd make at least one more game this year. -
Nope. You were against efforts to oust RV. Did you read the consultants' report? You sunshine pump and never address problems inside the culture and AD at UNT. Your answer is to ALWAYS tow the party line. Left to you, RV would still be here because it costs to much money to buy him out. If I have to insight anger in a basketball fanbase that has been through what is has been through the last 4 years, this program is doomed and dead because of lack of interest. Trying to guilt fans into supporting a crap product that UNT has allowed to continue to be a crap product is crap.

No. You believe a fairy tale and then take shots at those who want a problem corrected as "flapping their gums." Left to this line of thinking, Rick Villarreal would still be AD. I encourage everyone to email Wren Baker and let him know how you feel. So far he had been a man of inaction, something very familiar to fans of this program. Let's hope this changes. I don't think there is a poster on this board that has been more wrong more often. No credibility.

Telling your fan base you give a crap. ESPECIALLY in THIS situation, where you have ignored a problem for so long (4 years) while a vast majority of your fan base has rightfully demanded action. Like I said, I'll never buy season tickets again if this is allowed to play out. I'm quite sure others have a line drawn in the sand, also. This isn't a program that can afford to alienate fans more than it already has. Thats why you end it. You should have ended it years ago, but failing it end it now tells me your priority will never be a championship basketball program. -
When you can't bring your recruits to basketball games because of the level of suck, it's time to fire your coach. Then again, it was time 4 years ago, wasn't it?
-
This. Math is hard for some. This article actually validates the recruit ranking system. I look forward to the January day when things like this aren't posted to justify poor recruiting. Will it ever come? I see you have never been to Boise. If i had to live anywhere else, Boise would be a top choice.
-
No. You never, ever dictate who a new coach has to pick for an assistant. Ever. Micromanaging is a recipe for failure. Find your next head coach and let him name his staff. Thank the interim coach and send him on his way.
