Can UNT win one conference game with Benford as coach?
UNT90 replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Now that's an interesting theory. The one problem I see is the UNT players wanting to prove the same point against that team, and wanting to prove it more. Much more. -
Not only that, but we won't be getting the same JJ. We would be getting retirement JJ. We just had an AD that was retired on duty for 10 of his 15 years. Don't need none of that mess

I'll answer your post here from that recruit's thread here, @MEEN2018: Why should UTSA be winning all these battles? Citing exceptions is fun, until you realize they are exceptions. Right now this staff is getting its ass tanned by a UTSA staff that was hired at the same time and had similar success the past year as UNT. Put your trust in Littrell if you must. I also remember the "trust RV" posts. Me? I'll trust the evidence, which says this class ranks right up there with DMac's worst classes. I expected much much more.

Based on what you said. Time has already told. Are you seriously trying to argue that lower rated classes are better?

MGB: Where does UNT turn to fill void left by Combs
UNT90 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
As long as you don't care about going 0-18 in conference? Absolutely nothing... -
Meanwhile, UTSA is getting better and better recruits.

Now, what was UNT's combined football record over those years?... Because my argument is that when you rely on hitting on 2 star recruits, your program is usually bad. That has been the case at UNT.

Can UNT win one conference game with Benford as coach?
UNT90 replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Kind of the pattern emerging is that it matters to basketball fans and doesn't matter to those that aren't into college basketball, which makes sense. If you really don't care about something, why would you care what happened to it? Human nature. -

He would have already if it wasn't for all those cancerous players. #chemoinbulk -

Baker's judgement is in question with me if he fails to fire Benford. I have zero hope that he would make the proper hire under that scenario. -
And...
-
Let's just say I doubt the last bolded paragraph. If that were the case, Benford would be gone. He isn't And you are right, I will join the VAST MAJORITY OF UNT ALUMNI who don't give a crap about UNT basketball. Oh, I'll come back. Once a year. To carry on a tradition. Nothing more. Ever again. Much like I did in the early 2000s.

Some are perfectly fine with failure. Some didn't want RV gone. Some still regret he left. That's a fact. Like i saId above, some wear the badge of angst and losing proudly. It's the damndest thing I've ever seen.

MGB breaking news -- Jeremy Combs is done for year
UNT90 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Fraizer has about 10% of the raw ability that Mitchell possessed. That is a little unfair to Fraizer, as he is a different player, but still, there is a STARK contrast between he and Mitchell's ability. Frazier left SMU after his junior year for a bad UNT program, Mitchell left UNT after his junior year for the NBA draft. Big difference. I agree about Combs. And to some who say it's a slap in the face to the people who put him in a position to graduate early, well, those people are HIS PARENTS who ingrained that work ethic in Combs long before he got to UNT. I think they will be fine with whatever decision he makes. Too bad UNT decided to waste the first 3 years of his college career by keeping a failed head coach employed. -
And I think certain fans wear that badge with pride and wouldn't have it any other way. Pretty sad. Several of us answered in another thread. Yes, we would come back this year. The problem is what happens if this continues. I'm out. @Army of Dad has been there through this entire mess. He is out. Tasty, one of the most knowledgeable basketball posters and biggest fans, is out. You know who else is out? All three rows surrounding my former seats behind the UNT bench. Who knows if they will come back. You will have let the worst coach in UNT history complete a 5 year contract. UNT doesn't care enough about this to do something? I don't care enough to ever give them any money for anything basketball related other than a single game ticket. Once a year. And only because it's a tradition. And it will affect my giving in other areas.

Guess what, people. Losing isn't supposed to be fun. Sorry I ruined the fun losing party of the last 15 years

Please. Saying that all your opinions align with the AD isn't bullying, it's a cold, hard fact. Always have, always will. Lol. Remember that GMG.com basketball game where we tanned your hide? Who was MVP again?

MGB breaking news -- Jeremy Combs is done for year
UNT90 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Hopefully this is step one of doing things that needed to be done a long time ago. By leaving Benford in place, we have wasted a year where Combs could have redshirted. Instead, Benford played him hurt to try and save his job. fix it already.- 21 replies

Tell me, what is to be positive about in men's basketball right now?
-
What that leads to is no pressure to win. Sigh... If you think being on this message board is all I do, you are VERY mistaken. You can effect change. You choose not to. And I really shouldn't be upset with you, because you never gripe about anything you don't try to change. i just can't do that. People matter. People change things. People change attitudes and ideas. People decide whether a job is done right or done improperly. Always amazes me how some people never get this.
-
They are supposed to FIX AN F'N 4 YEAR OLD PROBLEM. RV was allowed to lose for 15 years. And there is evidence. Chico had a better record than both Dodge and DMac when he replaced them. There was the example at WKU given by FFR. It's funny how your and several others opinions never vary from UNT leadership. I mean never.
-
There was nothing passive about it. Athletes don't like to lose, and they don't like playing for a coach that loses. You seem to think this team would fall apart without Benford the Great leading the charge. I got news for you, they would play better. They would win more. Anyone who has played sports should be able to get this. There is no great allegiance to Tony Benford, and having him gone will take immense pressure off of these kid's shoulders.
-
We just have to disagree on this.
-
But there is a HUGE difference in going 0-18 and not doing anything about it. It will be used against UNT in recruiting. I would sell that UNT doesn't care about winning and use Benford being allowed to coach out his contract as an example. I'd tell the kid I'd lose my job if I performed that terribly, but at UNT they just don't care. I'd explain that a lack of consequences leads to poor behavior and an environment of not caring, which leads to losing. I'd ask the kid's parents if they believed in consequences for their son (they will say yes) and then ask them why they would ever consider a school that didn't believe in consequences for the coaching staff? The staff that would be mentoring their son? Leaving him in place is an unmitigated disaster waiting to happen. #OldDenton Sadly, I think this is the more appropriate hash tag.
