Wow...I didn't know UTA was undefeated at home like, for forever.
-
Agreed. Pardon me for not getting excited over signing a lineman with no other offers. That said, I hope he is able to contribute.
-
I don't see Cross staying at UTA much longer. He's done a great job there and someone is bound to notice.
-
Just got back from the game. This team has two 5'9" shooting guards an no true point. Both of these guys also did not show any ability to get to the rim. Please, a point guard with one of the remaining ships. UTA was quite impressive. Very athletic.
-
Were you referring to the hooker post on the Basketball board?
-
Wonder if he'll qualify at all.
-
Don't think you can get that job with a UTA degree, but if so, it's just a short walk on up to Division St. And I will be there + 1

Your right, woa is poor little us. We are to poor to do what other schools do with less resources. We should accept our lot in life. We should never expect anything from our Athletic department, because we are just poor little ole UNT, that teacher/music/commuter school up North of Big D. Sarcasm aside, there is a provision in Dodge's contract where he can be reassigned to any job at the school. IF RV wanted to, he could do this, and Dodge would immediately resign. So, no, we don't need to raise a gabillion bucks to change coaches. Another great myth, or excuse, that is stated by several on this board. Not saying this should happen just yet, that would be RV's call.

Interesting point. Guess they have expectations over there at Valley Ranch.

Is It Realistic To Hope For A Long Term Coach?
UNT90 replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't think losing by 40 to 50 points would be a direct result of an off the field issue. I am one of the people you speak of. I graduated in 90 and would occasionally take in a FB or BB game after college, but did not support the program. I followed the team pretty closely during the 4 conference title years, but mainly did it from afar. I bought season tickets for the first time this season. Dodge was partially responsible for that. I EXPECT this program to improve. I EXPECT a .500 season next year. If we aren't .500, I EXPECT a serious performance review of everyone in the athletic department. We have a window, with the new stadium opening and conference reallignments on the horizon. This window could make or break D1 football at UNT. We can not afford to waste this opportunity, like we have so many others. When I try to get my old college buddies interested in the football program, they just roll their eyes and say "they suck, why would I want to go watch them play?" These are the same people who were curiously observing the program during the 4 year run. We even went to a couple of away games. After the program nose dived, they lost interest. Point being, they, like me, expect a competitive D1 football program. They don't want to here "baby steps". Hell, this program has been around for about 100 years! Baby steps!! People like winners. Win and they will flock back, especially with a new stadium. Me? I'm hooked on the tailgaiting, so I'll be around for a while. -
I didn't know Coach Dodge was Mexican

lets just keep doing what we've been doing. It has worked so well. -
Is It Realistic To Hope For A Long Term Coach?

Come on, there is only one person on here making accusations about Riley, and its pretty clear that guy has a personal axe to grind. View any other message board, and you will see far worse, for teams and coaches that have performed much better. My "Golden Boy" reference had nothing to do with Dodge, but was a complimentary term used for a hypothetical situation. I don't think we should aspire to be the same old UNT. I don't think we should even aspire to be Sun Belt Champs. My aspirations for UNT are greater than that. I don't think we should just close our eyes and hope everything turns out OK. Like someone else said, Think Big, Be Big. -
You would think that we just read 2 different articles. I hope you are right. I hope Dodge and UNT win the conference next year, and Dodge procedes to build a great program. I have seen nothing to indicate this will happen. I am a realist when evaluating present and past events, but an optimist when it comes to the future of UNT athletics. Vision is needed to lead UNT to where they should be. Things change. With a new stadium on the way, new athletic village, and multiple other new athletic venues, UNT is finally growing up. Maybe some have been around UNT athletics so long they just expect the same results. I think the bar should be raised across the board. For coaches, for the AD (who has had a big role in leading to the bar being raised), for the students and fans, and for Almni and donors. If you believe what Dickey said still applies, you are living in the past.

Ok...so we now know that we are not losing because of all the underclassmen. We know that these underclassmen are part of the best recruiting class ever at UNT, so obviously they have talent (as evaluated by numerous sources). So, what does that leave...anyone?

UNT begins to win. Wins 9-10 games for three years, including victory over ranked opponent in last season of "Golden Boy" head coach. This would mobilize the fan base in the metroplex. People like a winner, just look at all the idiots that wear UT colors and cheer them on with zero affiliation with the school. When this happens (being positive), Golden Boy moves on, but the program has already moved to a level of self-sufficiency. A new coach is hired, preferable one of the coordinators from Golden Boy's staff, since this person would have seen and assisted in the construction of the program. The program continues at the same or an improved level. The blue print is there. See - TCU, Boise St., Tulsa -
Oh, and just another example of that Vito guy taking a shot at UNT. Hear the sarcasm when he points out that we had 5 all conference freshmen players?? What a vieled shot at everything UNT. And this guy calls himself a fan...um..reporter.
-
Finally closure. Arkansas St. plays for the conference crown with two more upper classmen starters than UNT. They must have been 2 heck of a good players!! Couldn't resist last shot.
-
Well, apparently Boise St started 2 frosh on the d line in a bowl game vs TCU. Again, that is the thread topic. These 2 frosh didn't need 2 years to "mature", like you say our players do. But, keep on believing. Hope Santa brought you good things for Christmas. I hear he is a Junior.
-
And my original post was referring to 2 Frosh STARTERS on the Boise D line. read before you answer next time.
-
I beleive Tasty has previously debunked this widely propagated myth. Too lazy to search for his post and much too lazy to do the research myself. What's the excuse if we go 3-9 next year?
-
Come to think of it, maybe he was just providing additional education for the young college male. What a great teacher!!!
-
Your right. Our freshmen are 5 years younger than Boise St's Freshmen. That's it. Talent level has noooothing to do with it.
-
Maybe you, but surely not me.
-
That makes perfect sense. I am relieved.
