  1. Thats not good enough!! We need details!! This "just trust us" stuff has gone on way too long at the GMG program! I bet the only message board all-star game you ever coordinated was a high school message board game! If you had any assistants, they would probably all be from the high school message board!! Uh...thats all I got.
  2. But were you in love wth them before the tournament started? Did you pick them for the final four? If not, I would suggest that you are very fickle and would encourage this team to be wary of your romantic advances.
  3. This isn't personal. I'm commenting on the legal process, not right and wrong. Don't confuse the two. What if the ticket agent had been told by her boss that anyone who didn't have two forms of ID doesn't get on the plane, no exceptions, and that this is publicized company policy, and then this person shows up with only one form of ID. Do you risk discipline and possible termination to do the right thing? This is the closest comparison I can make between the vastly different professions. Saying the same employment rules should apply to police officers and airline ticket agents shows your lack of understanding of how the police profession works. Anytime force is used, the "customer is treated terribly." This is not an office job.
  4. What's with all this secrecy!! I bet there isn't even going to be a GMG.com bowl! Why are we always in the "silent phase"? We probably don't even have the money for the T-Shirts.
  5. Change the name from Nelson to DeLoach and the year from 2009 to 2008, and points one and two could have been made last year. It is never a good thing when you are relying on players that have yet to take a class at your school. Lets wait and see who shows up this fall. I still think we lack the needed talent at DL positions and will have trouble pressuring the QB and stopping good running teams. Hope I'm wrong.
  6. Remember, some of his firings have not completed the appeals process yet. Also need to research how many chose not to appeal or negotiated a settlement (alowed to retire). The city makes it extremely unpleasant for the officer during the appeals process.
  7. Everyone needs to remember that Kunkle does not have the final word in the employment of Officer Powell. Kunkle can fire him, but the civil service review board (or whatever they call it in Dallas) can review the discipline at the officer's request and reinstate the officer with back pay. This WILL happen in this case, if Officer Powell chooses to appeal. If you don't believe me, google some of the recent reinstatements from Kunkle firings. I think you will find that the allegations made against those officers were much more serious than this incident with Officer Powell. I did see where Officer Powell issued a public apology, which, unless his attorney has already struck a deal with the department, is not very wise. What about the conduct of the Plano Officer? Say and do nothing when you are in a position to change the outcome of the event, then run crying to your supervisor 2 days later? If he didn't like the way Officer Powell was handling the situation, he should have pulled Powell aside and told Powell so to his face. This could have averted the whole incident. Not very couragous to do nothing and then, 2 days later, run crying to a supervisor. The Plano Officer was on scene 1 minute into the stop. Let my roasting begin...
  8. Did y'all know that the police chief is elected in two Texas cities? One is Childress, I can't remember the other. I guess this is common practice up north. At least you have no doubt that your chief is a politician.
  9. The point is Kunkle knows that it will be overturned and that the City will pay the officer to sit on his rear for six months. Kunkle will gamble with the possibility that the publicity will make the officer walk away from police work.
  10. Kunkle is reaching for an excuse to fire the officer, which he will do. The officer will be reinstated by the civil service review board in 6 months with full back pay for doing nothing but sitting on his rear for six months. But it is worth the political capital to Kunkle.
  11. I hate you.......says the jealous D1A football fan whose College team has a high school stadium.
  12. Guess I shoulda put a smiley face at the end of it. Would that make it all better? But it is a fact. And people will do it.
  13. I'm thinking that anyone pulled over in the next several weeks for speeding, running a red light or stop sign simply has to say "My brother (mother, father, aunt, uncle, or other family member) is dying and I'm on my way to the hospital." Sure fire way to get out of a ticket, at least for a while.
  14. Kinda like DeLoach was the difference between 2007 and 2008? It's all about the talent.
  15. So now the war is responsible for the issuance of extremely risky loans to non-qualifying Americans by American companies? PLease explain. Speaking of staged, did anyone else notice that Pres. Obama had a list of reporters and went down that list for questions without exception. Could it be that these reporters had to submit their questions before the press conference in order to get the answers on the teleprompter??? Hmmmm.
  16. The last paragraph is pretty dead on. As far as the towing issue, many cities, including Dallas, have instituted an automatic tow policy for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility (No Insurance), that's why the officer initially threatened to tow his vehicle. You can be arrested for any traffic violation in the State of Texas except for speeding and no seat belt. Red light cameras cannot positively ID the driver, therefore the citations you receive from this is a civil (not criminal) citation, whereas when an officer witnesses this violation, it is a criminal offense.
  17. We are obviously talking about two different things. Now, as a moderator, will you be giving yourself some time off for the highlighted comment?
  18. I hope you understand that "doing whats right" and complying with department policy are not the same thing. There are many different versions of "the right thing" in society these days. In the old days, the chief would have reviewed this officer's overall record, and if there were previous issues with the officer practicing proper disgression, the officer would have been fired. Now, thanks to all these departmental policies, the chief will have to prove that the officer not only violated one of these policies, but that he has a past history of violating these policies on many different occasions in order for the chief to fire this officer. Don't be mad at me. This is simply the way it is nowadays. All that said, the officer could have definitively handled the situation differently, but that can be said for any situation an officer encounters.
  19. So many errors in this post. If you don't think depatmental policies affect what officers do and how they react, then you really don't understand the profession. Yes, administrators have a huge effect on officer's actions through these policies. You know the funny thing? Those very policies will be used by this officer's lawyer to prove that this officer did nothing wrong. Kunkle will over-discipline the officer anyway, because he is a political animal and will respond to the publicity (not knocking Kunkle, just stating a fact).
  20. Agree. I see a courtesy complaint after everything shakes out and the media hype "blows over". Of course, this will come after over-discipline, followed by the officer's appeal.
  21. So you judge his whole career by 16 minutes of video which shows, technically, he did nothing wrong? Nice. Do you know what it feels like to follow a car with lights and sirens for a mile, only to have three people ignore your commands when the vehicle stops? Do you know what that does to the aderaline of a police officer, much less a three year, 25 year old police officer? If you believe that his kids willl not be insulted by adults, or that he will not be insulted by adults in front of his kids (which is even worse), you are extremely naive. My initial point was it's extremely unfair to expect officers to practice disgression when day by day, policy by policy, administrators are doing everything possible to eliminate that very same disgression. I'm pointing out a bigger issue. Several on here know exactly what I am talking about.
  22. Let's see. He's 25, been an officer 3 years, has 2 children and a wife. And now his family will face ridicule, he will face discipline (which will be overturned on appeal), and insults will no doubt be hurled at his kids by other kids and adults. Man, what a great $50,000 a year job. Any takers out there????
  23. But EVERY story of officers making mistakes, or, in this case, using bad judgement, does make the news. It would be nice if there was a little equity.
