Your 1st Place Texas Rangers

Wow. 4 runs in the first four innings. Millwood must think he has died and gone to heaven (or the land of 27 virgins, just to be politically correct). -
Dude. Did you not see that I was agreeing with you? You are the one that capitalized ALL, therefore I was making the point that all on this board could have been discriminated against. And the second point was to not worry about things that you can't control. If you do your job, and do it better than most others, you will be rewarded, either by your organization or another. If you get caught up in all the bs, it does you no good and most likely effects your job performance.

We were just rated 120 out of 120 D1 schools, so "very solid league from top to bottom" would not be accurate. -
The problem with affirmative action is that now reverse discrimination is prevelant in the public sector, while discrimination somewhat still remains in the private sector. I don't think anyone accepts this as balanced. It all comes down to this: Work your tail off, out perform the other guy, and if people at your organization don't appreciate it, another organization will.

Exactly. Maybe someone on the ULM board has a ranking system that shows they have the best class. Same for LaLa, Ark St., Troy, FAU, FIU, and MTSU boards. Like I said before, I choose to believe the experts this year, not so much because they are experts, but because there is no bias, intentional or unintentional, from their point of view. -

Yes, I am quoting and replying to myself to show my greatness with the early concern for the offense. Please pause while I repeatedly pat myself on the back and enjoy a reflective moment. -

I saw many offers, confirmed on Rivals website. I never saw a confirmed offer for Adkinson (other than Adkinson saying he got an offer). Hey, I just got an offer from UT, believe me? I'm not saying the kid is lying, I'm just saying that there was no independant verification of any offer from any other school. Please provide the link to the Rivals article (or any other) where they rated this as the top recruiting class in the SBC. I'll believe it then. It sounds to me that you have devised your own way to rate this class, and as stated before, I'll rely on the experts this year. I hate when I have to do research. From rivals FINAL recruiting ratings: 57) Troy 79) FIU 89) FAU 95) Ark St. 104) UNT My bad, fifth in the conference, not 7th, but certainly not 1st or 2nd. Again, wear your rose colored glasses if you want, I choose to be a little more realistic this year (as always, I hope I am wrong and we go 12-0 and win the national title). -
Just a little over the top. Have a hard time feeling sorry for Letterman, though. If he was a little more like Carson (made fun of every politician, no matter the party), he wouldn't be in this predicament. When you're percentage of jokes are 90/10 about one side of political issues, you are asking for trouble in a situation like this. (yes, the research into the 90/10 statement involved searching my memory for the 20 or so times I watched Letterman, very scientific). Do any of the oldtimers on here remember Carson ever having to apologize for a joke?

Says who? Where were the offers? I have a hard time believing either of these 2 programs were after the 5th or 7th best DT in his JUCO conference. Did they evaluate him? Maybe, but I never saw any offer other than ours. So I guess your saying Dickey was the greatest coach ever or Dodge is the worst? I am speaking specifically about this last class and your claim that it is a difference maker. No offense, but I'll listen to the experts. -
Ok, so accordingly, tailgating and a new coach produced higher attendance, but winning is the only thing that will increase attendance? Tailgating is a good example of adding something to the gameday mix, just like a post-game concert.

Exactly. Those who can look at this program through unbiased eyes did NOT see a good recruiting class. Does anyone really believe Adkinson picked us over Arkansas? Really? -

A class that was rated at the bottom of the Sun Belt conference by the professionals. But why should I believe them when I can get the sunshine pumped up my rear on here? Adkinson was Honorable Mention in his JUCO conference, which equates to the 5th or 7th best defensive tackle in that conference. This guy is a back up on any other Sun Belt team, and should be a back up here. I listened to the board last year (Sun Belt Champs, 8-4 record, blah, blah, blah...). This year I'll listen to the experts. -
So then you agree that there are different ways to increase attendance besides winning, which is exactly what this idea is about (and also getting UNT used to handling such events for the new stadium). Winning is not the only thing that affects attendance, otherwise the Rangers would have folded up their tent a long time ago.

2006 average attendance - 15,650 2008 average attendance - over 18,000 Obviously, there are different ways to increase attendance besides winning.

How the heck can they see us winning 6 games and still finishing 7th in the SBC? Do we have 15 non-conference games this year?. Can't see going any better than 1-3 in the occ schedule, and I think 5 conference wins would elevate us much higher than 7th in the SBC. It is good to know that someone besides KRAM is overly optimistic about this season. Seriously, it is nice that someone outside looking in is predicting good things, well, sort of. I predict an OCC win over Alabama, although we will have to wait 3 years for it to be reflected on our season record. -
Way out of the price range, unless they give a HUGE discount to UNT. Meanwhile, bands like Eli Young could be had from between $5,000 and $10,000.
-
Restrict the stadium to no entrance after the third quarter. I know, you dont trust the event staff to handle this, but it shouldn't be to difficult. That way all attendance would count toward game attendance number. Why would Ranger attendance be so good when fans of those bands could also just show up for the concert (they are held outside where anyone without a ticket can walk up and watch)? Or, fans could simply leave and not watch the concert after the game? Niether happens, why? Because people see a value in getting two different entainment values for the price of one. Maybe some alums that wouldn't go to games would look and see a concert scheduled after the game and think "Hey, I like that band, might as well catch a game for the same price." But you have to market wisely to let people know that there is a concert. How about giving it a try and see what happens? Or we could just do nothing and Bi*%$ about it.
-
Look at Ranger attendance last year when they had post game concerts. Big difference when acts like Robert Earl Keen played after the game. And with all due respect, this is not about old alums, this is about attracting new, college aged fans who will support this program after they leave UNT. Plus, I like music.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090614/ap_on_...gentina_glacier "We're not sure why this happens," said Andres Rivera, a glacialist with the Center for Scientific Studies in Valdivia, Chile. People who couldn't predict the Wednesday storms 24 hours ahead of time expect us to believe them when they make outrageous claims about climate change. -
Absolutely, as long as they are still relevant to the students and affordable.
