I work with 2 rabid OU fans and 2 rabid TTech fans (yes, they all attended the schools for which they cheer). Every single one of them stopped by to congratulate me on UNT's victory (maybe I tell them I help coach, and maybe I tell opposing teams coeds on road trips that my name is Scott Davis). 3 of them even watched some of the game, and agree that R. Dodge looks like the real deal. This, after the hell they gave me last year, sure felt good. Any other experiences, good or bad??

Wow! Oregon Player, Garrett Blount Just Lost It
UNT90 replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Glad this guy is gone for the year. The most disturbing thing about the punch was that he waited until the Boise St. player had been grabbed by his coach and had turned his head. Classless, cowardly conduct. Watch it again. It's not like it was a reaction punch. he waits a good second to a second and a half to throw the punch, waiting for his chance for a cheap shot. What a scared little punk. So Long, Blount, Burn in.... oh, wait. If you fast forward 10 years, it's easy to see this guy in a dope motel hitting the pipe. -
Anyone know who the favorite is for this game and by how much? Also, is the Ohio game on television anywhere around DFW this week? I am assuming they play tomorrow, right?
-
I believe the D-line had one sack last night? Maybe on the first series? Third down? No?

Man, this gives me hope for the future. Events like the game watching at Clark Park are what make people Mean Green fans for life and potential donors in the future. I really hope the school does this at Clark Park for every away game.

Bad wasn't that bad and ugly was a complete reference to Ball St.

After a late night and early morning to soak up this win, look at the stats, and peacefully contemplate the dominance that was exhibited last night, I have the following thoughts on the game: THE GOOD: Jeez, just about everything. Let's start with the defense. 309 yards given up by the D, and only 140 passing. More importantly, they held Lewis to just 103 yards rushing. Very impressive. They looked extremely quick to the ball, much quicker than the Ball St. offense. Vastly improved D-line. Special Teams - Leaving out field goals, of courses. I said in another post that the first kickoff coverage would be an indication of the season to come. First kickoff? Touchback! Next kickoff? Swarming coverage and the return man is downed around the 20. Just an unbelievable turn around from last year. Punt coverage, same thing. STAT OF THE GAME: 9 return yards for Ball St.... NINE!!!! Offense - R. Dodge is the real deal. I was very skeptical heading into the season, but he showed that he can play the QB position at the mid-major college level. A huge threat to run with the ball. I still cringe every time he gets hit, but it changed from "He's to small to take that punishment" in the first half, to "We can't afford to lose him" in the 2nd half. Big mobility improvement from Vizza. The O-line is the strength of this offense, and I look for Cam to have a HUGE year. Cam benefits from R. Dodge being such a big threat to run. STAT OF THE GAME 2: Offensive plays: UNT-84, Ball St.-59. Great ball control by the offense to keep the defense off the field. Along the same lines, time of possession UNT 37:12, Ball St. 22:48. Coaching: A great game called by both the offensive and defensive coaches. All throws were short and mid range to keep R. Dodge comfortable and allow him to experience some success in his first start. Ball St. defense giving a HUGE cushion to receivers may also have a lot to do with the lack of the deep ball. Great balance between the pass and the run. By that, I mean they realized that the running game was a strength and went to it early and often, and used the pass to keep Ball St. off balance. It looks like this staff has finally arrived. Only questionably decision was trying the 2nd 49 yard FG on 4th and 2 after the 1st miss. STAT OF THE GAME 3: UNT rushes - 51, passes - 33 THE BAD: Penalties, Penalties Penalties!! A touchdown called back by a really mindless holding on the QB. The QB!!!! Jeez, just get out of his way and let Hill run over him. nine penalties for 81 yards. Can R. Dodge throw the deep ball? This isn't necessarily a bad, just an unknown which was not confirmed or dismissed in this game. Lack of consistent pressure on the QB. There were times where we pressured him, but there were many times where he had all day. A better QB will kill you in those situations. And thats about it!!!! EDIT*** Forgot one of the most important bads- When you gain over 500 yards of total offense, you gotta put more than 20 points on the board. Red zone offense needs to improve. THE UGLY: Shame on you, Ball St. fans!!! You go 12-2, nationally ranked, and to a bowl game last year, and you can only put 16K butts in the seats? Shameful. As a comparison, we were 2-10 in 2007, and still managed 20K plus for the opener against Tulsa last year. Could you imagine if we were coming off a 12-2, nationally ranked bowl season!!! Do you really still think a stadium under 30K is a good idea? I won't call them ugly, but the Ball St. cheerleaders left a lot to be desired. In summary, we are a competitive major college football program again, and will be a touchdown favorite over Ohio for the opener. 2-0 going into Alabama??? Could it be??? (uh, no, but it's nice to dream). Winning the Sun Belt is not completely out of the question anymore.

The QB was such a non-factor, Tobe shoulda just screened him with his body and never touched him. No way the QB makes the play. Refs are always going to make calls to protect the QB. Thats just life in football.
-
How was Clark Park?
-
Bad for the Sun Belt, good for UNT. Any shot to Troy's confidence is a good thing for us.
-
I am worried that not scoring that last TD and kneeling down instead may cost us a shot at the national championship. We shoulda run it up like OU.
-
Will it be a repeat of last year? Will there be a huge upset? Will we play special teams like a normal college football team? Will the defense show some semblance of a real college defense? Will Coach Dodge prove that he is the coach to lead this team? Will R. Dodge be the quarterback that we all want him to be? Is the offensive line really as strong as we think? Do we have the receivers capable of playing major college ball? Can we stop one of the best running backs in the nation? All of this will be dramatically answered in just under 5 hours, one way or the other. Most pivital game in the last 4 years. I'll be at F&H in Downtown FW, nervous as heck at about 6:25pm. Hope you boys in Denton have the same hopefully, nervous, dreadful, yet excited feeling. Please, God, let the answers to all the above questions be in favor of UNT.

Obama To Speak To School Kids
UNT90 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
They don't care. And, ya, most probably would not know who he is. Didn't know about the homework and the "support Pres. Obama" papers. If true, that is absolutely political indoctrination. But, who is really suprised by that. The liberals have been in control of the education system for the last 30 years. If anything, it is redundant. Heck, let them do it. The students will be so peeved about the homework and paper assignments that they'll never vote for a Democrat when they grow up. -

Obama To Speak To School Kids
UNT90 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Will the leader of the Republican Party get time after Obama's speech, you know, like on the TV speeches? Maybe promises of extended recesses, two chocolate milks at lunch, and off campus lunches for high school freshmen and sophmores? So stupid is this. Kids watching some guy they don't know telling them to stay in school. Just a waste of school time, but whatever. -
"Officers responded to the area in the 1100 block of Fort Worth Drive where a common parking lot serves the church and a bar." Are there no zoning ordinances in Denton?? Any time a story starts this way, you know there is going to be some F'd up S going on. Good thing those officers make $250,000 a year for all those risks. Oh, wait...

Your 2nd Place Rangers
UNT90 replied to NT03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I saw that. Didn't look like a leg injury, considering he went hard from 2nd to home on that single. Hopefully not another Hammy injury. -
Your 2nd Place Rangers
UNT90 replied to NT03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Ok, this thread cannot die unless the Rangers are eliminated!!!! Rangers just went up by one on Toronto while the Angels have already lost. The Angels seem to be cooling off and the Rangers really need to keep the winning streak going. Can close to 3 1/2 of Angels, 2 1/2 of the RSox (if they complete the loss they are currently working on) with a win tonight. I know UNT Football starts tomorrow, but let's not forget about the joy this team has brought us this summer. EDIT -- Elvis and Cruz both have gone deep. 5 - 3 Rangers in the 6th. -
I hope he only has to throw 25 times. Remember, he is a freshman QB going up against an experienced college defense. Yes, I think he completes right around 50% of his passes. Of course, I hope he goes 33-35, 350 yrds, with 4 TDs and 0 interceptions. I have been paying attention, just taking off the green shades for a few minutes.

Like the attitude, but it's just all words until you make it happen. So, if your reading this, Make it happen!!! In the immortal words of some famous dude named Al, "Just win, baby!!!"

Riley: 12-25 130 yards, 0 TDs 1 INT, 10-65 rushing, 1 TD Cam: 24 - 85 yards, 1 TD I have a feeling we are going to (or at least should) see an emphasis placed on the running game. Also remember that Ball St. returns alot on defense.

Notebook: Mean Green Hoping For Better Luck In Opener
UNT90 replied to mgsteve's topic in Mean Green Football
I think the cool aid has given you a brain freeze. Page was there last year as a redshirt, running the offense in practice through 2 fall prarctices and at least one Spring practice. Yes, Ball St. will have new starters on the O-line. Last years O-line was a huge strength for them, so it would stand to reason that the backups were kept on the sideline by some awfully talented lineman. Whose to say these backups aren't more than capable of above average o-line play. Proven? No, but at least they are not new to the program/changed positions like EVERY member of our starting defensive line. Speaking of those new D tackle starters, are they not more susceptible to the "learning curve" since they have only been here for the Fall practice? Isn't our new D-line coach going to have problems "installing" his new system? Does Ball St. have any concerns on special teams? We do. Huge concerns. Can we not look like a high school team while attempting a field goal or extra point? Don't know. Ball St. does. I love the enthusiasm, but lets not forget how bad we were and how far we have to go just to be average. Why does everyone just assume we will be better on special teams? I will say this and you can mark it. Our first kickoff coverage will be a great indicator of the direction of this season. -
Agree with Tasty, but would also add special teams. If the defense and special teams are even average this year, it gives us a chance to win 4 to 5 games. Unfortunately, both have a looooong way to go to be average.
