  1. Do you think teams would notice the trend if we just put Tune in when we wanted to throw the ball more than 20 yards?
  2. "Good" and "Clutch" are not synonyms, that's all Im saying.
  3. With a final of 37-21, and being down 30-7 at half, there is nothing I would call "clutch" in any performance in this game.
  4. This team hasn't scored more than 20 before MTSU all season; you are expecting things to go perfectly for you in 4 straight possessions; even if you fail on the conversion, the 4 perfect possessions allows you to tie the game; you are trying to instill confidence and a winning culture on this team, and going for 2 shows such confidence in the team by the coaches. All the above are the reasons I would have gone for it. I also agree on the 3 and out with 9 left in the game. Dunbar did have a nice run for a TD and over a c note on only, what, 5 carries? Shoulda included that.
  5. So I guess we are all in favor of extending the Patriot Act now?
  6. THE GOOD: Big crowd, Darius Carey, Will Atteberry, Royce Hill's return.... uh... that's about it. THE BAD: Huge student crowd, and we again play non-competetive football for the 1st half. Just the same soul stomping, motivation draining, heart shrinking, gut turning crap that seems to have been happening the last 5 years. The game? Well, terrible performance by the defense against a QB that couldn't throw the ball through a tire from 3 feet. Was there ever any question that the run was ALWAYS Dasher's 1st option? Knowing the run was coming, UNT was never able to control it (except for a short time at the start of the 2nd half). The Offenseive line was not good, causing Riley to get a bad case of happy feet early in the game. The MTSU defense played a scheme that Riley will see the rest of the season: Run blitz, press the receivers, and make UNT beat you deep. Riley hasn't proven he can do it, and I'm beginning to wonder if he can. Riley had a really bad game and looked liked the redshirt freshman that he is. He has got to eliminate the turnovers in the red zone, hell, turnovers in general. He did throw for over 300 yards, but that is a really empty stat. Coaching. I just don't understand not going for the 2 point conversion with the score 30-20 and 1 minute left in the 3rd. There is no feasible senerio I can come up with as to why you don't go for 2 at that point. If I've missed anything, please let me know, but I can't really find the disadvantage as to being down 10 (if you dont make it) as opposed to being down 9 (as UNT was after the standard PAT). Yes, I know that a touchdown and field goal would win it if you held MTSU scoreless for 2 consecutive possessions while you scored on 2 consecutive possessions, but really? Not to mention the emotional lift your team would get if you made the conversion and were only down one score after pissing away a full half of football. THE UGLY: Turnovers, Turnovers, Turnovers, Turnovers, Turnovers... Another blocked field goal to start the game. a la last year. Just a momentum killer. I respectfully disagree with Coach Dodge, who said in the postgame interview with George that this was the best special teams performance since Dodge has been here. A blocked field goal should be unacceptable at the major college level. In summary, a major regression which has me thinking that 3 more wins this year is highly optimistic.
  7. What worries me is the student turnout. It was great yesterday, and then we give them a first half of completely crap football. I hope they come back for homecoming. That said, a 1-2 UNT team drew 22,000 for a conference opponent. Think what the attendance would be if we could establish a winning program. This is why I really wish the new stadium was more than 30,000 seats. Vision, people!
  8. Do I think a former CIA spy could escape FBI surveillance in 1985? Yes. Today? maybe. Do I think some poorly trained, unsuspecting mope like this guy could? No way in hell.
  9. Just playing devil's advocate, but the politics may come in if this guy's intentions were discovered through a wire tap, the kind the ACLU have been screaming about. To answer Lovemg, do you seriously think this guy wasn't under 24 hour surveillance? I promise you that he was. Even the FBI isn't that stupid.
  10. Or will the Bama beating discourage those who thought we should be ranked? Great weather expected and it is family weekend! I'll optimistically say 24,892.
  11. North side of Blue lot. Will be doing brats, steak. chicken, and maybe ribs. Working with a small gas grill, and last week the ribs almost burned down the tailgate!! Wish I had one of those tow behind grill/smoker combos. Plenty of can beer. Stop by the blk expedition with the almni flag (and also sporting a new Green Texas flag) for some free food and beer.
  12. UNT 30 MTSU 28 So uncomfortable with this pick
  13. You could never make this shot at fouts. Couldn't get it past the track.
  14. Weber - DNP
  15. So you want the same illogical behavior toward the Rangers that the Cowboys get from their fans? Again, there is no pressure on Jerry to win because he has the die hard fans that will come no matter what. Where did those fans come from? 1993, 1994, and 1996, with many left over from 1979 and 1972 (??). Winning it all makes fans for life. The Rangers have never won even a playoff series. Ain't saying it's right, it just is.
  16. The highlighted fans are not baseball fans, they are pop culture fans. They may know the game, but they are fans of the Red Sox because that's the cool team of which to be a fan. They couldn't tell you who was on the bench and dang sure couldn't name one minor league prospect for the Sox. This is the same phemonmena with all the UT crap you see people wearing. Just simply pop culture. People always want a winner. The struggles of the Rangers to win, and I mean win anything (like one playoff game), have been monumental. Hopefully next year changes that, the Rangers win, and you see new Rangers fans created. Houston has been to a World Series in the last 5 years and had a pretty good run of success in early 00's, making a comparison between the two teams kind of pointless. I don't think this is a bad sports town, just a normal one.
  17. So many things. First, welcome to being a baseball fan trapped in a football state. That's just the way it is. Second, TCU, which is a winner, can only draw about 30,000 a home game. Why? Lots of reasons, small private school being one. Not being a BCS auto-qualifier being the biggest. The invention of the BCS has basically changed college football to a professional league (Auto-BCS conferences) and then a big step down to everybody else. It changed recruiting and competetiveness, all in the name of a glorified undisputed national champ. It's kinda like, if you had your preference, would you attend a middle school football game or a high school football game? Of course 90% of the people will say a high school game. Same thing for the Auto BCS conferences vs. the non-Auto BCS. The point of my post was Kinsler griping about low fan turnout in a Monsoon while they lost 7 of nine on a home stand. Win, and they will come. It's like that everywhere, except for the Red Sox and the Cubs, not coincidentally, two of the biggest losers in pro sports until recently. What incentive is there for the owner to provide a winning product when the fans just stupidly turn out every game to support a loser? None. Unless the owners care about something more than money, which both of the owners of these franchises now do. Tom Hicks? He has never cared about anything but profit margin. Many fans will continue to follow the Rangers through the media, but simply won't attend September games unless there is a real pennant race occurring, which did not happen this weekend. Barely staying in touch with the leaders just doesn't cut it. It's not like the Rangers were hurting for attendance. Until the last 2 years, they were right at or above the league average in attendance, while being out of every pennant race in 2006, 2005, 2003, 2002, 2001 and 2000. What do you want from this fan base?? You can only get kicked in the teeth by Tom Hicks for so long. With that said, I'll bet you the Rangers are again above the league average this year.
  18. MTSU will really gives us an idea of where we are at with this program. I don't think we know yet. The Ball St. win is looking worse and worse for us, Ohio is still an unknown commodity, and Bama was what everyone should have expected. MTSU has two solid wins and will probably be a 10 to 14 point favorite when the lines gets posted. A loss is not the end of the world. A non-competitive loss is a serious sign of major problems for the rest of the year. Hopefully, the defense can rebound and play the way they did against Ohio and Ball St. I would not be surprised to see us win this game, but, then again, I wouldn't be surprised if we lost by 28.
  19. So, your saying gay people are stupid??
  20. Now, that's gay.
  21. Nothing would have been successful against this Bama team. They out-athleted us at every position on the field (except punter). That said, play calling, especially in the Ohio game, has been highly suspect. Does Dodge call the plays, or is that Ford's responsibility? The wide receiver screen is a good play when you have the better athletes, a stupid play when you don't. Why, when we finally decided to attempt to establish a running game, did we attempt to establish it with Dunbar? Not that it mattered in this game, but it seems that the coaching staff has a set rotation that they refuse to alter to fit game situations. 53-7 is about right for where this program is at right now. In 2 more years (coincidentally when the stadium opens) we should be able to be competetive in this type of game.
  22. 54-14 Bama. Can't wait for MTSU.
  23. I'll be there. Also you can get a hotel at a place like Springhill Suites (Mariott chain) for $77. With te hotel room, you get 2 tickets to the festival and a coupon for a free beer stein. And if you use that beer stien at the festival, they charge you half price for beer. A very good deal! And the hotel is about 200 yards from the festival, so you can crawl home , if needed. Swinging by the Pourhouse forthe game on my way to Addison.
  24. It's an exact copy. Actually, it's the same low pressure system that was here for the Ohio game. Let's hope for different results.
