Talk to me after Troy and Ark St. They both may hang well over half a hundred on us. Lets look at the evidence. Ball St. - Horrible team with 8 or 9 new starters on offense playing their 1st game when we played them. Ohio - Played in monsoon which effectively eliminated Ohio's passing game. Alabama - terrible, but expected MTSU - 30 points by halftime. Against a QB that couldn't hit wide open receivers if they were more than 10 yards downfield. ULL - Didn't see the game, but anytime you give up 2 TD drives in the 4th to lose the game, not good. FAU - 30 points by halftime. Against an 0 - 4 team that may be the 3rd worst in our conference. As for the best yardage defense in the league, I think that you will find that we don't hold that position after last night's game. I know we won't by the end of the year. The D has improved against the run, but still can't get pressure on the QB which exposes the secondary. I really don't know how you defend this unit after last night. When your offense scores 40, your supposed to win. Period.

Tonight We Are All...
UNT90 replied to Quoner's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
The press vilified Al so bad, he had to change his name to Joe and become a independant. This isn't about how conservatives vilify libs or vise versa, this is about what the major news networks are reporting as facts and treatment of moderate conservatives (and even moderate libs who aren't lib enough) by those networks. These networks have never vilified liberals, just the oppposite. There seems to be a new tone to the political landscape that conservatism is equal to sexism, racism, anti-earthism, and every thing else under the sun. I expect it from Huffington, just like I expect the opposite from Linbaugh. I don't expect it from NBC nightly news. Like I said. scary times. Who the hell is Al Leiberman anyway? -
Not to beat a dead horse, but... You draw 23,000 to see a 4-34 team over the last 3 1/2 years. If you win, you will easily draw another 8 to 10K, making a 30K stadium obsolete when it opens. Of course, that's if you win, which I am beginning to think will never happen again. So bitter.

One problem with this. Riley Dodge has not shown any ability to get the ball to a receiver running a deep route. It wouldn't matter if we had freaking Randy Moss out there if the QB couldn't get him the ball deep. Stratford and Cole won't matter if the field can't be stretched by your QB. The one deep ball thrown last night by Riley was terrible. This has nothing to do with him being a freshman, this has to do with arm strength. He is not going to be able to imorove much in this catagory, no matter how hard he works.

The decision to go for it in that situation was sound. The lack of foresight that the situation may present itself, thus causing you to call a timout between the 3rd and 4th dow play, and then to run that particular play after having a full timeout to discuss what you wanted to do is just... terrible. But, that's all we have seen at home the last 2 years, anyway.

The worst coached team in college football. Bar none. When does it get better? When is the learning curve going to be completed? This is a bad defensive team. 30, 24, 30... that's the points scored on this defense in the FIRST HALF of every Sun Belt game. They can't pressure the QB and are still awful in pass defense. I don't know the answer, but I am beginning to wonder if we will win 3 games NEXT year. I see us beating WKU, and thats it the rest of this year.

I think you need outside judges. And I think they should get one bowl of each chilli. Need a judge? The standard Brats, Steak, and ribs. I really need to mix it up a bit.
-
Can I get the under on this for, oh, everything that I own, please? I think we will be really good, but I also think we will regret not having a true point at times during the season. Let's re-visit this half way through conference play and see where we stand.

This is NOT a good omen for the Stars season, any way you look at it. -

I'll play.. Michael Moore: considered a mainstream icon by today's youth and, more importantly, CBS, NBC, ABC, HBO, CNN, and MSNBC, whose films are viewed as gospel by a majority of young Americans. Rick Perry: Unknown outside the State of Texas (and many would say outside of Austin) As for your last paragraph, your right, moderate liberals have been treated in such a way. For an example, see Al Leiberman. The press has vilified him. Oh, wait, that was for agreeing with a quasi-conservative President on a war issue. How dare you vary from the party line, Mr. Leiberman!! Otherwie, your last paragraph is complete nonsense. With that, it's homecoming weekend, so I invoke a football force field and refuse any more temptations for political discussion. -

This is the country that we live in today. Extreme left: Al Frankin, U.S. Senator Extreme Right: Rush Limbaugh, bigot not good enough for the NFL Scary, scary times in this country. I wish people would look at how even moderate conservatives are being branded as racists, extremists, animal haters, enivormental terrorist, and just about everything else under the sun without one shread of proof to back up the claims. This should scare everyone, as if you don't agree, you could be branded just as well. Unfortunately, since their "team" is in charge, many just choose to ignore this behavior and the danger that it brings. -
I'd settle for a 5"9" guy who could handle the rock, break the press, and had a huge plus in assist to turnover ratio. We don't have that on this team. Josh is a 5'10" shooting guard, Dom is the same. I went to several home games last year and point guard play was the glaring weakness every single game. I love Josh and Dom, but they are playing out of position at the 1. Each should only be playing there for 10-12 minutes a game, max.

Health Care Reform Debate
UNT90 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I like Molson Canadian, not that Molson Golden crap. Can't get Canadian anywhere in the states. Makes me sad, which makes me lazy, which makes me not exercise, which makes me gain weight, which gives me health problems, which makes me seek care, which, since I'm lazy, makes me want it for free. If only there was Molson Canadian, all of our, well, my, problems would be solved. -
Uh...I meant OOC. Don't report me for acronym abuse.

This is looking like one of the most talented Bball teams that JJ has ever had here. I just wish that there was a true point to run the show, as I feel this really hurt us at times last year. The only guards recruited were either 2s or combos (translation: a 2 who can play the 1 adaquately if pressed into it). This may come back to haunt the team this year. Better hope we win the tourney or beat OSU on the road. If not, there will be no at large birth for us do to the pathetic OCC schedule this team plays. We could be 24-8, losing in the conference finals, and not make the NCAAs thanks to the OCC schedule. Don't get me wrong, I love every position on this team besides the PG. Unfortunately, that's one pretty important position.

Rangers Hitting Coach

Did you even read that stats I posted?? This quote leads me to believe that you must have fallen asleep in the 1st inning of every game, if you tuned in at all. -
UNT 34 FAU 20 Hey, they gotta put it all together one of these days, right?

Rangers Hitting Coach
UNT90 replied to UNT90's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Uh... I think you are remembering 2008. Although the pitching faded in the last 2 weeks, the Rangers ended up eighth in the AL in pitching with a 4.38 ERA, one spot above the Angels, who finished 9th. Hitting: The Rangers finished 3 from the bottom with a .260 average (the league low was .258) while leading the league in (surpise, surprise) strikeouts with 1253. The next closest was Tampa with 1229, and then Cleveland with 1211, then the Red Sox with 1120. LAA finished at the top of the league with a .285 average, followed closely by the Yanks at .283. True to the Rudy mentality, the Rangers were 2nd in the league in home runs, with 224. The Yankees hit 244 HRs while striking out 239 fewer times. The Rangers drew 472 walks, third from the bottom of the league, while the Yankees drew 663, second in the league to... Tampa, yes the team closest to the Rangers in strikeouts also leads the league in walks, not almost at the bottom like the little Rangers. So long, Rudy, burn in... Chicago?? -
I'll go with Jacob Holman for Sunbelt Freshman of the Year. Highly talented high schooler should be able to transition nicely into this league. I hope.

In June??? God, I hope not. -
Yes, tailgaating is much more spread out, and you have to pay for your spot in the grass. There is no parkinglot tailgating that I saw. We were in Waterloo park (Trinity and 15th) next to about 10 other pretty major tailgates. Very different from Denton, and not in a good way. And to address Lifer, they did know what was going on with the program. They had watched the 1st game on TV, were planning on attending the Ohio game until the monsoon, and are coming to the homecoming game this weekend. The fact that they were wearing UT stuff didin't bother me, after all it was a UT game. I always bring extra UNT shirts for my tailgating invitees to wear to the game, so I dont really see an issue with this. Now, the UNT grad wearing OU stuff outside the stadium in Norman before the 2003 game? That was a different story!!

Someone is going to come in here and do a better job. Of course the players love him. Kinsler is a 30-30 guy this year. Great individual stats, horrible situational hitting. Players want to get paid. If you hit a lot of homers, you get paid. Plain and simple. For every Michael Young and Marlon Byrd, there are tens of Ian Kinslers, Chris Davises, Hank Blalocks, and GMG Jrs. out there. Do you really want to trust Justin Smoke to this guy after seeing the regression of Davis and Kinsler?
