  1. Those are some pretty good teams though. Texas Tech is not so hot but Baylor, Mizzu, OU are really strong programs and Washington is a powerhouse program.
  2. Every game has gone 5 so far. Kinda odd that what are probably the two best teams aren't going to play each other.
  3. When you're getting pick that far down in the polls, it's probably more a reflection of recruiting then coaching. Got to have good players to win.
  4. For some reason, I've always liked volleyball but NT needs to improve big time. I think their RPI last year was like 300. Anyone know if they're going to be any better this year?
  5. Hiring Coker does keep you in the news. Rivals Frontpage: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news...o&type=lgns

  7. The Alamodome is centrally located and about 15 miles from UTSA's Main Campus about 1 mile from its Downtown Campus. Look, I know they have a good coach and a nice facility but I don't know much more. One thing I do know, however, is that North San Antonio is amazingly safe. I know this because I live here and UTSA's Main Campus is not too far from where I work so I see it everyday. If your suggesting people should be afraid to go to UTSA because it's dangerous then that's laughable. Just look across the street from it, there's a Neiman Marcus, Tiffany & CO. and a Ferrari dealership. lol, they don't build those things within a 2 mile radius of something that's not safe.
  8. That may be true if your standards are too low but once you find an equilibrium then it won't have a significant impact. By that logic, every university in the country that wanted to improve the "quality" of its student body would just raise the admissions standards every year and eventually become the next UT or even Harvard.
  9. Unless the applicant pool changes significantly, that won't make a meaningful difference.
  10. Sadly, there probably are too many Division I athletic programs already. I think NJIT proved that.
  11. I'm not a fan of Mr. Pickens. He has or had a lot of money and spends it mostly on athletic facilities for his alma mater when there are much more important things he could contribute it to. Just look at the Bill Gates' foundation and Buffet's too.
  12. I think people here put too much emphasis on the SAT score minimum for guaranteed admissions. If you actually look closer, LA Tech has lower "middle 50% scores" than UNT, UTSA and Texas State. "Middle 50% scores" are the best indicators of the typical freshman admit to universities (that is, if SAT scores are your sole criterion for judging the quality of a student).
  13. Yep, that's a perfect analysis.
  14. UTAH has a pretty nice athletic program these days. They would actually be an ok fit in the PAC-10.
  15. I think more may watch it than the 16-1 game though.
  16. Harvard beat Stanford. However, no #15 seed has ever beaten a #2. UTSA took Baylor to overtime but had 3 key players foul out and came up just short.
  17. Yep, Ark State should be better.
  18. Coker & the Alamodome would be pretty nice recruiting tools, I think most startup programs wouldn't mind that.
  19. Also, all three of North Texas' recruits are Juco transfers which also hurts the ranking since Rivals prefers 4 year players to juco transfers.
  20. I figured TCU would win. Boise State is an exciting team though.
  21. UNT should start a DI team. There are a lot of good players in Texas and still plenty to go around.
  22. lol
  23. "an arms race for facilities is for sure", it's almost sad how much goes into them. Although, I have to say 60 million dollars doesn't sound like that much to me for a new stadium with the cost of materials growing.
  24. Bexar County is well off. They have a strong economy and tourism industry which helps them collect a lot of money from the all important "hotel taxes". The city of San Antonio has a AAA bond ratings (Phoenix is the only other major city in the nation with one); therefore they can do a lot for UTSA in terms of helping them raise capital. I think I read on this board that they got like 15 million in city money for a soccer/football practice complex or something like that. So even with a small alumni base, they should be fine if the community supports them.
  25. Many universities have upped midnight madness from midnight to like 7:00 P.M. but very few have cancelled it, I think.
