  1. Okay. I'm no fan of Al Gore, but this kind of writing drives... me... crazy. This is the headline of the article: "Energy Guzzled by Al Gore's Home in Past Year Could Power 232 U.S. Homes for a Month" It's been even more twisted in the title of this thread, of course, but on a internet forum that's no big deal. Fact is, read the headline again.. closely... in a YEAR, Gore's home used enough energy to power 232 average American homes for a MONTH. Are... you... kidding.... me? Gore's house is 10,000 sq. ft. The average American home in 2004 was 2349 sq. ft... so, basically, the accurate fact is that Gore's house uses enough energy to power 19.3 houses 1/4th the size of his per month. Now, note that this STILL makes someone as outspoken as Gore appear to be a hypocrite. It's just that the real numbers aren't shocking, sexy, and won't whip the medieval mob into a frenzy. Again, not disagreeing with the point made... but the way it's being made by the authors of this "article" should be insulting to the intelligence of anyone with a mind enough to catch such a blatant manipulation. To make the point more fairly, and really twist the red knife in Gore's blue, bearded back, I'd go somewhere like here: http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/house.asp
  2. Well played, sir. I'll be the Sumner to your Brooks anytime. Go Cocks!
  3. Yep. This happened to the Heart of Atlanta Motel in Atlanta as well, I believe in 1964 (?) The owner, an attorney no less, was refusing equal services to blacks and sued the U.S. for forcing equal access upon him..... another important case upholding the intent of McCulloch. I believe the Warren court ruled to the effect that it wasn't enough to have all hard goods made in Georgia, because the motel sat near two federal interstates and took in out of state guests, thereby affecting interstate commerce. Lock up your daughters, gentlemen... I can't control this kind of sex appeal.
  4. That's it, Cerbs.... you set the standard, and now if you don't institute an immediate lifetime ban on yourself for THAT rational, though-out rant of yours, I'm invoking the ghost of John C. Calhoun's crazy hair and seceding REAL hard, Palmetto style....
  5. Sigh. I was just trying to make some panties drop. Fine. You're the boss. Back to lurking around, waiting for someone to post what stormfront.org thinks about The Vizza/Dodge situation.
  6. Maryland v. McCulloch? huh, ladies?? huh????? who wants some???
  7. Seeing things in Ticket terminology, I imagine the uber-conservative posts on this board to sound like the two guys with the deep accents in the fake political ads "You know what else, Earl?" "What's that, Charlie?" "That Hussein Osama also hates babies and is against freedom!" "Well, I reckon I won't support a commie bastard like that!" (cheesy patriotic music in background) Then, the instigating Liberal posts are in the Gordon Keith Liberal Man over-questioning accusatory voice... "Well, he raped that infant because your conservative educational system failed him! You are just too judgemental and bloodthirsty to see that!" Carry on. 'Tis fun.
  8. personally, my money is on the late-charging horse of posting links to white supremacy websites...
  9. Oh sweet lord... we've finally bottomed out.... eject... EJECT...
  10. really?? beats the hell out of what we had last year.... they BEAT OU....... they're not that bad. We should be much improved this year. Worth at least 3 additional wins, IMHO.
  11. they play well enough... for the players they get, they do a good job. I'd take their D. I see your point, it's not an elite D, but is there a spread offense team that DOES have an elite D? I think you just ask your D to do ENOUGH, and hold on... if we can just marginally improve our defense (and turn it over a whole lot less) we should be much improved this year.
  12. Self-indulgent personal story, so indulge if you wish, otherwise, close the thread for your own sanity. I swear, I tried to bury this, but it still infuriates me one year later. Last April, my girlfriend and I went on a 7-day cruise out of Galveston. Had a wonderful time, loved every minute, blah blah blah... anyway, one of the little niche activites on sea days they offer is various trivia contests during the day. They're really simple - you go to whatever lounge they're held in, they pass out sheets of paper and pencils, and you begin with whatever themed contest they have that day. At the end, you either grade your own or trade with a nearby team (usually you can have up to four people per group). Winner gets something inconsequential, like luggage tags or a water bottle. Anyway, we had been to a few of these throughout the week, done ok (I'm a trivia nerd), just a simple diversion. Well, mid week sometime during one afternoon, the two of us go to a Sports trivia thing -- basically, my girlfriend sat and stared, while I scribbled furiously. I was wearing a NT t-shirt... this becomes very relevant in a moment. Near us, there's a table of two couples, probably mid-30's. From the attire, it's VERY obvious we have two Longhorns and two Baylor alums, and this would have just been background noise if it wasn't for how arrogant they came off -- we heard them telling the guy administering the trivia (unsolicited) just how good they were, how back home in Houston, they went to these organized trivia things weekly, and they had literally walls of trophies at home, so they were loving this onboard... we laughed at them to one another, but not taking things too seriously, just ordered another drink and went back to things... So, as we're about to get started, I realized the pencil they gave us was REALLY dull, so I walked up to the stage to get another one.... no big deal. As I'm walking back, past this BU/UT foursome, the guy in the Baylor hat stops and says this... "North Texas... Mean Green, huh?" Hey, great, i think... "Yeah!" i say... "I had a good friend who went to North Texas" he says... I'm really loving this now, hearing this somewhere off the coast of Honduras and all... "No kidding? Cool!" i say as I walk by... "Yeah" he says... "He failed out of college, so he went to North Texas, because NOBODY can fail out there!"... they all laugh. I kid you not. This happened. I was walking by, so I just kept walking, and at this moment determined that, quite simply, the best revenge was not to say a damn word... yet, quite simply, it was to make sure I did the best I could on this thing... sports trivia was my wheelhouse. I was PISSED... and I knew how seriously they took this. Here came the questions. Twenty of them. They were hard.. some about UEFA, some about F1... but I knew I did okay... they were so arrogant about their skills, I was nervous.. he read out the answers, then asked what everyone had.. going around the lounge, people shouted out the number correct... 6... 8...9...3...11... then it got to them.. "14" they shouted, high fiving each other and laughing smugly... I looked down at my paper. I smiled. The host looked at me. "16," i said... "Go Mean Green!"..... they looked so, so bitter. I took my crummy luggage tags proudly, and took a long drink of my beer. Afterwards, the Baylor hat guy actually walks OVER TO OUR TABLE... he asks to see my answer sheet. Not kidding. I should have been offended, I should have given him a piece of my mind, but you know what? I knew I'd really beaten their ass, so i just handed him my sheet and kicked my feet up. He looked at it, then handed it back and they walked away, bitching about whatever excuse I'm sure they cooked up. There were two days left on the cruise. Three more trivia events. TV themes, Geography, and Movies. They went to every event. They wouldn't win again. I have a drawer full of luggage tags and sports bottles now. F them. To this day, it infuriates me to think of the arrogance, and how i'm sure there's some way they justify the fool with the inferior education whipping their ass. I'm satisfied, but I won't lie.. it still maddens me. Have you ever had a situation where you felt the need to defend your affiliation?
  13. Initial reaction on CBSSports.com... FAU sure does love the big name looking to salvage their career, that's for sure.. http://gregg-doyel.blogs.sportsline.com/mc...5881996/8546932
  14. Best record in the NFC with home field advantage is a contender, even in they lose by 100 in the second round (factoring in bye). There are probably 8 or 9 teams you can legitimately say are Super Bowl contenders (maybe more with parity how it is now), and the Cowboys were and are that without question.
  15. Are you serious? How many titles has Troy won exactly?
  16. I'd say he did... wouldn't give Wade the credit for that exactly..
  17. "conference dominator"??? Really??? On what planet? Don't get the Troy fawning. Really don't. They dominate the SBC about like Boston College dominates the ACC. "Overrated conference disappointment", sure. Conference dominator? Don't think so.
  18. honest question... worst record in the AL, lost 6 in a row now, just gave up 19 runs. Could we theoretically wake up tomorrow to Wash's ouster?
  19. Our media?? "investigative reporter Brett Shipp"?? I don't think I'd say "the media is trying to sell us" anything. A bit of exagerration there. No need for smartassery. You don't really think there will be black outs in 2009, do you? If the team is good, they'll sell out every game, just about being able to name their price. Now years after the novelty of the stadium wears off, the team craters, whatever, well, that's a different game. But until then, only eight home games, not 41 or 81. Most valuable sports franchise in America. Just read yesterday that Texas (DFW in particular) is home to more corporate HQs than anywhere else in the nation. Over a year plus till kickoff. They still haven't even released the pricing for the "regular" seats. Fact of the matter is, regardless of what you may or may not think about prices going up, this thing will be THE place to be when it first opens. It will be the hottest ticket in town, Dallas is a "place to be, see and be seen" city. Even the scalpers will clean up early. Sure, it may be a dead, corporate crowd, but look around-- it was at Texas Stadium, and it is at the AAC. Might not be at the Ballpark, but we'll never know because there's nothing to cheer about there. But to answer your question, yes, I believe people will be there to see Pac-Man play. If they're not, it's because he's made it rain too hard before then and doesn't last til opening day at Jerryworld.
  20. ohhhh, i bet lots. LOTS. Start in the MAC... go through the Belt, WAC, etc...
  21. Yeah, the AAA club has won some games over the years, but the number of prospects has been REALLY poor compared to the rest of baseball. It's a product of bad management from the top down for YEARS. Minor league records don't equate to big league prospects, unfortunately.
