Exactly my point. i'm not passing judgment on one offensive philosophy being better than the other, just stating the fact that even with equal ability, a DeLoach defense with this offense is unlikely to post the same numbers as back in the Booger/Kassell/Buckles, etc. days. Again, has zero to do with wins & losses, but even if we run more out of this current set, this offense moves much faster, turns it over more, and D is on the field much, much more.

And, though i agree with DeLoach's defense being a serious work in progress, we have to frame the numbers in perspective. This would take far more analysis than I have the stomach for, but when DeLoach had a top 20 defense dominating people in the early 00's, we also played Dickeyball, pounding people with the run game, eating up clock, throwing once in a blue moon. An offense like that, when successful (which it sure was in the Hall/Smith/Galbreath/Cobbs/Thomas era) grinds up clock and can really boost a defense statistically. Not saying one offense is better than another, but running a fast paced spread is going to give our defense a lot more time on the field. Even a defense equal to the early 00's unit would probably have worse numbers with this offense (again, not necessarily relevant to W/L's -- see Texas Tech). Just a frame to try and put some perspective on the numbers. Also, this probably skews our turnover margin as well.

Fair points, but as Tasty said - if Fran was here and moves on after a couple of seasons, that means he turned us around quickly and dramatically enough to rebuild his reputation. I'll take that. We do the coaching search again, promote from within Fran's staff (worked for TCU), whatever. As for Kragthorpe, he's been here before. He knows NT. I'd get a Chris Matthews level leg tingle (and maybe a semi!) if he looked our way again. These, of course, are moderate long shots and no-brainers. And again, not blatantly calling for a change... just dealing in hypotheticals and responding to other scenarios.

Is Td Able To Evaluate Talent ?
CaribbeanGreen replied to houstonmeangreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Cam was fully suited up (maybe that's SOP, I don't know), but never saw the field. Not sure how bad the injury is, or if Dunbar going nuts has more to do with it. -
Great take. Thanks for the hard hitting insight. Rack 'em. SoCal, you're up next.

A lot of sketchy calls.... a big issue I had came after the blocked punt. We're up, in FAU territory, late in the game... a score essentially puts the sucker away. We've moved the ball at will almost all night, and couldn't possibly have more momentum on our side. Not to mention, Dunbar is putting up Playstation numbers and can't be slowed down, much less stopped. He doesn't get a single touch. We go 3 & out. Two of the plays, our backup quarterback, with all the mobility of Walter Hudson, keeps the ball for what I recall was next to no gain. Again, with momentum, a lead, a chance to ice the game, inside FAU territory, and Dunbar with 225+ yards and going strong -- We run Nathan Tune twice. Staggering.

Cu Made A Qb Change, Upset Kansas...
CaribbeanGreen replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
If Tune can play defense, maybe so..... ... don't get the Dodge/Tune stuff today. Expected it, but don't get it. Offense moved with Dodge. Offense moved with Tune. Bad turnovers with Dodge, bad turnovers with Tune. Dunbar ran wild with Dodge, Dunbar ran wild with Tune. Meanwhile, the defense makes a sieve look like the Berlin Wall. Hold a winless Sun Belt team to 39 points in your own building, you win. Simple as that. -

There have got to be 4 or 5 other "poster power rankings" we could run with here. Easy. -
Your 2nd Place Rangers
CaribbeanGreen replied to NT03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
ding ding ding. Lived there several years, up until 2006. Freaking dismal. Firstly, it's a Dolphins/winners town... and even the Dolphins fans show up as empty seats when the team is out of it/coached by Nick Saban. I was there during the Heat's big Wade/Shaq run (yeah, I know...), and sure, everyone was just a huge Heat fan for a couple of months... but the year before Shaq arrived, with Pat Riley on the bench and Dwayne Wade leading the team to the 2nd round of the playoffs, you could walk up game day and more or less pick your seat... this in a new(ish) arena on the water next to a huge mall/shopping complex. There was literally about a two month period of "Wade County", and then crickets... ...as for the Marlins... need I even go into it? Maybe the undisputed best-run (personnel, not financial) franchise in sports - two WS titles, SOMEHOW constantly in contention with a payroll the size of UNT's athletics budget, and I would sit there at games in Dolphins stadium in a chair with a Dolphins logo on it drinking a beer from a cup with a Dolphins logo/schedule on the side. Did I mention you can use the seventh inning stretch to hit the Dolphins Pro Shop, now featuring a Marlins cap on sale! The thing is dead, cavernous, and empty... talk about a franchise that deserves better. That's where DFW comes out looking good... if the Rangers had HALF the success the Marlins have had, I have confidence that even Zombie Merle Harmon would have trouble getting good seats. Always blamed the Miami thing on the fact that when you live there, you'll meet almost no one actually FROM Miami... it's transplant/retiree city. Then again, so is Phoenix, and I'm unaware if the D'Backs have had the same problem (with good, though lesser success than the Fish). -
by that definition, we've been "dink and dunk" essentially since Dodge got here. This is not an offense that throws downfield much, not at all - even when it's working.

Ball State...thoughts And Notes.
CaribbeanGreen replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Interesting note: Stan Parrish took over from Jim Dickey at Kansas State.... then promptly won two games in three seasons. He has zero wins in his last 28 games as a head coach. 28!!!! Not saying he's not a good assistant and CERTAINLY not saying BSU won't be a good team this year, but that is astonishing on a number of levels... and another way I do NOT want NT to go down as a trivia answer. -
fair point, Scott. Unfortunately, bans aren't always an option... but I agree with you. That said, I still think this probably is for the greater good, whether or not it's fundamentally "right". Oh well. GMG!

Nobody was forced to do EXACTLY the one thing Harry specifically asked we stop doing either, but it happened multiple times within a week of Harry asking us not to. Partisan articles and forwards kept being copied and pasted as if they were valid arguments made by the posters in question, as if Harry had never said a thing. It's on us. While I appreciate your spirit and would agree wholeheartedly were this a public forum, it's not- it's Harry's board, he puts the work in, and he can do whatever he sees fit. If we don't like it, we are free to start our own boards or leave entirely - both of which have been done in the past. This place was started as a place to talk UNT, athletics and otherwise -- and since the ParadiseWeb days, that's what it's been 90% of the time... while we may have enjoyed our sparring in the Non-Sports forum, it's entirely understandable that this really wasn't the place. I agree with what others have said.. we all have a lot more in common than we differ on. Politics and religion (et. al.) have been known to put families and friends at each others' throats like nothing else, and while it's perfectly good and understandable we represent so many differing political views here, it doesn't change the fact that, as a whole, humans in general seem incapable of handling political debate without unintended personal consequences. Bottom line: As it's been said, we'll all like each other a lot more without it. Our political views are a lot less significant that the shared masochism that is being a NT fan in 2009 - let's focus on that bond for a while.

Rick Pitino Has Some Explaining To Do
CaribbeanGreen replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Athletics
The thought of Pitino having public sex at a restaurant disturbs me... so many face veins... so many wild, greased hairs... such an expensive pair of crumpled pants. -
to blow minds, man. to blow minds. That, and it wasn't originally private. Got sick of porn-bots and the like following me. Fixed sig, gracias.
