  1. they did. SGA voted it down. Then, some campus groups (GLAAD, FMLA, ISO are the ones I know off hand) began loudly protesting the ruling. The Daily ran a front page story and an editorial trashing the SGA's decision. I was in class in Wooten one evening while SGA was having a scheduled non-public meeting in one of the lecture halls down the hall, and my professor had to call campus police because a large organized group of students chanting "WE WANT EQUALITY" stormed in and staged a sit-in in the SGA meeting. Long story short, SGA folded like a cheap suit, and the administration is too scared or nervous to intervene. They basically pretended their vote never happened, and agreed to stage a general student election. You can guess which side has been more vocal about promoting the vote on campus.
  2. Yeah, but how many 5A Div. II state titles does he have??
  3. for the record, it's not transgender -- the ballot reads "gay and gender neutral"... the latter of which caused me to implode on myself like a dying star. My thoughts are well documented in the thread in UNT News. Enjoyed the segment on D&M this morning on the topic, though.
  4. Stars-Avs. Western Conference Finals, game 7. Mike Keane goes nuts. Craziest, loudest sporting event I've ever had the pleasure of attending. ...hon. mention to Sidekicks-Tacoma Stars MISL championship series, naturally.
  5. That's exactly who I expect Memphis to go gunning for. The Tigers aren't above the high-profile name trumping most other factors, and i think I recall a statement after West's ouster saying as much (think the FAU of C-USA). That said, I do think Stockstill is a darn solid coach - no four year plan there, that's for sure.
  6. now now, that election just started today. We'll find our Friday if we need to double up on our King crowns.
  7. anyone read the game recap from FIU's annihilation at Tulsa last night?? Thomas sounds literally nuts. He's made some recruiting noise, but I have serious doubts Zeke holds it together long enough to stay engaged in this gig... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=293190202
  8. best typo ever, or insight into rare practice at gallagher-iba?
  9. Don't sell William Carey short. He has darkhorse written alllll over him! Especially with Troy still recovering from the infamous "Piedmont 40 minutes of hell!" (boy, Troy sure has one helluva non-con so far...)
  10. Had another mention like this locally, when Channel 5 Chris-Chris/sports anchor Matt Barrie was reading scores. It was something to the effect of "Looks like the failed Todd Dodge experiment is mercifully winding down at North Texas" after reading our score. Harsh stuff, but I was kind of distracted by his sneer and frosted tips, so what do I know.
  11. TFLF, i enjoy your insight as always, but a question - what other coach anywhere in a remotely similar situation is given that kind of rope? Three seasons into this horrendous era, no resume of collegiate success, no positive historical indicators of future success, and he's effectively allowed to gradually replace his entire staff over a three year disaster? I'm not saying it's a bad idea - if Football Trilli stays, I completely support your idea 100% re: Ford (tonight's 2nd half was further evidence of the epic level we get outcoached after halftime adjustments), but how are we able to say "Look Pigskin Vic, we know you've had zero success in any area and are admitting that you were completely inept and ineffective and hiring your own staff at any position, but we want you to stay on and just bring in all new guys to work under you." I'm not saying it's wrong, but it sure feels squirrely.
  12. Okay. So you're saying we shouldn't expect the progress SMU is getting because we couldn't afford a coach like Jones. Fair enough. Why, then, can we not expect HALF the progress of Stockstill and Cristobal -- neither of which, mind you, is setting the bar astronomically high? 3 wins this year is not "progress" by any rational measure. Bottom line, whatever happens, whatever we pay, we're not getting CLOSE to our money's worth. I don't want to hear any more of this "poor little UNT" junk about our budget. Spend what you have, spend it well. Period. The Marlins can win world series, and the rest of the Belt can hire cheap coaches that far exceed our ROI. We don't exactly have less money now than we've ever had, and we've always gotten a hell of a lot more for our money than THIS.
  13. Whatever year it was I know we went down to AC and held him to his lowest output of the year. I was thinking it was the "THROW THE BALL" game, but maybe not. I was on the sidelines filming the thing, so they kind of blend together.
  14. If I recall, our defense held some spare RB named LaDainian Tomlinson to his season low that year (around 70, if I recall), in his own house. And it was a year or two later that we lost on a late FG (if i recall we'd missed one or two) against Troy when we basically successfully blocked some spare named DeMarcus Ware all day at Fouts. These were good days. We underrate these days.
  15. You dirty, dirty SOB. I just laughed out loud in a silent workspace surrounded by people working on dissertations. And not just a little bit, either. I applaud this brave new strategy that Coach is going with.
  16. I'll copy myself from my Football Trilli post on the "Must Win Games" thread (cocky?): We hire a coach who finally has energy and positivity. He loves to talk up NT to anyone who will listen, and sure makes us all feel good at first. You can't find a nicer guy. He knows TEXAS prep talent, and has inroads with TX high school coaches we've never had before. Suddenly he's recruiting players the likes of which we don't usually get a sniff of at NT. Recruiting classes are ranked higher than they've been in decades, and excitement builds. His work and hiring is the primary reason for significant facility improvements we can all agree are long overdue and a large positive. He's very proud of these improvements, telling anyone who will listen how we're on the right track and to invest in the program. He brings an exciting new offense, up tempo and high scoring, designed to utilize the ample talents of his prize recruits. The fan base is energized by this, relieved to be freed of the moderately successful but dull, rigid system of the previous coach. He almost immediately begins playing more freshmen, these highly touted recruits there to implement his new system. Problem is, he can't coach. Not a lick. His first few years are arguably the worst in school history and possibly the worst in the country over that stretch. The most prominent of his big time recruits, and effectively his team leader, seems to be disheartened by losses and style, and transfers after only two years to an in state Big XII power with no promise of playing time. Others transfer as well, and many of his top recruits have problems with discipline or grades. Nothing serious, but issues here and there that illustrate a lack of discipline. His offense scores points, and we're up in most scoring statistics from the previous coach. Problem is, it's sloppy, inefficient, turns the ball over, and fundamentally unsound. Also, the team plays NO defense. None. It's routinely ranked at the bottom of the conference in every defensive statistic. There are signs of progress, a late season big win here and there, but it never amounts to anything. After four years, he's won less than 19% of his games, a staggering number. He never sniffs a sliver of the success the previous "uninspiring" coach did, nor the success of any coach before that. This is like the Lincoln/Kennedy thing, folks. Zombie Vic Trilli is coaching our football team.
  17. Oh yeah, and per my above Daily link -- I love how they start off by citing PTSD as a cause of military crime, and then quickly point out that Hasan was never in combat. Then, the explanation quickly shifts to "well, he saw so many examples of combat in his patients!!!!" So, the only relevant thing here, per the daily, is that this dude's patients went through so much that the shrink went nuts? Not that the ONLY shrink to haul off and kill people happened to also be a radical Muslim. Worst article ever?
  18. come on now, we can't compare ourselves to the expectations at Texas Lutheran. Be reasonable. It takes TIME to build a winner at North Texas!
  19. not only do they say it's not terrorism, but the entire editorial staff of your very own NT Daily say the shooter's religion isn't even RELEVANT TO THE DISCUSSION! http://ntdailydatabase.com/?p=3929&cpage=1
  20. Yeah, she still would have been big enough to host SLN. She's freaking everywhere - you haven't been able to flip by 102.9 or any country station for over a year w/o getting pounded by her. She did a spot on CSI last year, is the main feature in the Band Hero promos.. she's pretty big.
  21. FYI - Western Kentucky is winless, ranked #113 in the country in total offense, and put up 7 against Central Arkansas at home. You know, just to put this all in perspective. Worst defensive performance in school history. Period.
  22. I sincerely, sincerely hope this is some genius comedy. If not, I mean, I can't even concieve of where to begin.
  23. Have a feeling it was the S-bomb fired at the moderator on the receiving end of said question. It's been deleted now, you probably didn't see it.
  24. Maybe top to bottom there's a slight argument to be made, but 3-5 Bowling Green (4th, MAC East) absolutely blowing Troy off the field doesn't help. I think THAT'S the big difference, those one or two top-line teams. Central Michigan, for example, is really, really good. I think the SBC teams might blend nicely throughout the middle, but at the top/upper middle the MAC has an edge. Agree with you, though, on potential - for what that's worth.
