  1. Sorry, nothing to see here. A WKU fan got a hold of my phone and posted some hijinx. These stands are like a jungle. Move along.
  2. Things I'll never forgive Quoner for, vol. I: "Hey man, let's go check out the FIU-Denver game!"
  3. Hullabalark.
  4. GoMeanGreen.com.... where AMAZING happens!
  5. Tell me about it. I've got ants all over my bathroom floor.
  6. Thanks for the info! Sounds scrumptious!
  7. appreciate ya. Is there a boxing ring around here?
  8. well done, sir. What a day it was....
  9. Some independent thoughts w/o jumping into anyone's personal battles: 1) I don't believe you have to have seen someone play to have an opinion on a team, player, or era. 2) They're exactly that - opinions - and we're going to have a lot of differing ones here or in any large group. In stuff like college sports, the toy department of life, no one is ever "right" or "wrong" (quotations copyright KRAM school of journalism) in these things, and even if they could be, it's sure as hell not that important. The fact that we're all here posting on a NT athletics forum alone makes us a rabid minority with more passion about an often insignificant entity than just about anyone else. 3)It seems to me that in most cases, people tend to favor the era they came of age with. Period. This is across the board in any sport, and is the source of many good natured Griffey Jr./Mays, Celtics/Bulls arguments I've had with my dad. In twenty years, those who are in their 20's or so right now will have a greater appreciation for the Johnny Jones (and.. gasp! Darrell Dickey) eras than those who are the students of the future. It's just the way things work, and no one is right or wrong, and no, you can't really compare eras.
  10. Totally agree w CMJ - everything about this game on paper leans to a NT win, but we've been burned by UALR so many times over the years, I'm not counting anything till the buzzer sounds. I still think we win going away, but respect the Trojan.
  11. Sports hot isn't a BAD thing... it's still "hot", it's just a very real and different standard. HSO: Vonn looks like what would happen if Meghan McCain worked out a whole lot.
  12. When I saw the thread title, I quickly had a list of 4 or 5 posters in mind that MUST have started this thread.... Sadly, ArkStFan, who is one of my favorite posters on the interweb, was not one of them. Let's just chalk this up to a bad typo at a bad time from an otherwise great poster... like a Peyton Manning Super Bowl pick. Otherwise, agree w CMJ - if ULL can pull out a win, THEN I'll at least begin to think 1 is a real possibility. Until then, I focus on missing WKU as long as possible.
  13. wishes we'd just get some pitchin' in here already.

  14. Welp, you tried, Kram. I'll give you all the credit in the world for bringing an idealistic knife to this cannon fight. Shuke-D, looks like you raised the Mission Accomplished banner a little too soon, my friend. Maybe next time?
  15. Bill Jones from CBS reported George to SLC earlier this afternoon via his Twitter feed, @cbsdollarbill. It's a done deal.
  16. We can debate this all we want, but this situation is far clearer than most any other position on the field. Say we assume that Canales will have as much control as any offensive coordinator reasonably would.... okay, then, as others stated before me, it's awfully clear that Riley is awfully similar in style to Matt Groethe, Canales' most successful QB. On top of that, Riley has three more years in the system, seemingly being a better choice as far as laying the foundation for the future. Hell, while we're at it, Riley has more experience at the collegiate level and more experience working with this line and these WRs... which I don't think even matters, considering Canales' stylistic leanings and Riley's eligibility. Now, let's consider that Dodge is making all the final decsisions as the head coach and still basically running the show. If Dodge so much as has a little veto power on any of Canales' decisions, there isn't any question Riley will play. Basically, this isn't an issue. IIf you like Nathan Tune's ability, be thankful we have a solid backup. Because like it or not, that's what he'll be - no matter what. And there's little doubt Riley gets injured next year, so we'll need him dearly, regardless of what the depth chart says.
  17. I'm not going to go so far as to predict immediate conference titles, but the magnitude of this can NOT be overstated. THIS. IS. HUGE. I've been fairly vocal with criticism for Football Trilli the past year, but credit where credit is due: if this holds, even if Dodge doesn't make it through the season it won't be for lack of trying everything he could. This is a massive philosophy shift and the first purely tangible evidence that Dodge is learning and progressing re: the head coach position, and willing to sacrifice his ego to try and win. Much respect to Coach on this. Biggest and best on the field news of the offseason, hands down.
  18. I'm as excited about the potential hire as the next guy - Canales brings legit big time experience, has been around the block a time or two, and had success with successful people. Still, my primary concern (and reason for thwarting giddiness) is what the heck this job really IS?? The past three seasons, I've looked at the NT OC position as the most insignificant coaching position possible - Ford didn't call plays, it wasn't "his" offense, and the assumption has been that the offense is Dodge's baby top to bottom - that's one of the reasons we hired the man. This is why I seldom held Todd Ford responsible for anything- I'm not sure he had any semblance of decision making power in order to make even a small impact. Question is, does this change if we hire Canales? If he's allowed to have real input and make real decisions, I have a slightly higher level of optimism about next season.... but does that happen without a drastic sea change in fundamental philosophy and power structure at the AC? If that change happens, who mandates it? Is it an edict from above, or does it imply that Dodge has somehow been humbled and accepted outside help as a requirement for meeting ultimatums?
  19. Don't get the hubbub over the OC position here. Really don't. Hard to imagine a more irrelevant coaching position in the country based on our current structure. Might as well save the money for next year's potential HC hire.
  20. Eh. Steven Tyler composed Dream On in his middle teens and said the same thing. One of the greatest rock songs ever penned. I'm sure Alma Maters aren't generally considered great compositions by music scholars. Doesn't change that it's ours. We can still be proud of it, whatever its creator thinks. Appreciate the honesty if nothing else.
  21. Hopefully Johnson and Shorter can put on some muscle between now and August... I like the idea of the occasional smallish, speed LB, though.
  22. Exactly. When it's all done, I'll have bleached my hair and learned how to be a good man above all else. That's what matters, regardless of the success rate of my posts or my rap sheet down at the pokey. As for the original misguided shot across my poor, beaten bow - Not once did I mention anyone by name. Making a general comment about the risks of jucos (which has been made a thousand times before by a thousand different people) considering my fear we're forced to essentially mortgage the future and roll the dice on them at this point. This was peppered with several recent GMG crutch-jokes about various confirmed and speculated incidents in recent years, one of which (iPods and Guns) is currently a running theme on multiple posts. Again, all in context with the board - as is the juxtaposition to the "Todd Dodge is the cleanest God-fearing coach in the country" mindset that lurks around here at times. Nothing to do with an individual. Good grief. Oh, but since you ask if I ever get tired of slandering an individual I've never met or heard of, I'm curious as to your list of the frequently slandered at my hand - I only take the time to slander the ones I know and love, sir.
  23. iPods? Guns? Drugs? Stolen Debit Cards? We are from the hood? Bring it on! Jucos often come with baggage. Just the facts. Fortunately, that often fits right in around here, and keeping a coach under an ultimatum guarantees you a Juco bonanza, and a much higher tolerance threshhold for off the field junk, especially if a guy can contribute - as if it wasn't already. Hang on tight..... Moral standards - IT'S WIDE OPEN!
  24. Did he? I think Riley's SLC teams were better than Hall's Skyline team. They went farther, beat people worse, put up more yards, had infinitely more tradition, coaching, and resources. You can argue pure talent at Skyline all you want (implying that, let's face it, SLC has more "lunchpail" guys), but Riley was plugged into a long standing system that had had year in year out success full of all-district guys... SLC had success before Riley (McElroy, Daniel) and after (Padron), each going as far or farther than Skyline ever did. To say Riley had "lesser WRs to work with" implies he did more with less than Hall ever did... I just happen to disagree with that. In the hopeless vacuum of destitute DISD football, Hall led Skyline from the ashes with no tradition whatsoever, and a team that never approached the success of Riley's worst team. What Hall did at Skyline is far, far more impressive to me. JMHO.
