  1. That's my concern, Plumm. Honestly, based on your experience, looking at it as objectively as you can, if we DO make a change after the season, what kind of coach do you think this regime will go for, bearing in mind it will be their first football hire? THIS is what troubles me.
  2. and you know all this..... how? Also, CUSA looked at other sports besides football, you know. You know, the ones we aren't very good at....
  3. Fair enough right back at ya. Can't say I wouldn't be right there with ya were I in your shoes. Hang in there, brother -- we're all Green at the end of the day. GMG!!
  4. PMG - I've never said that we are "the wave of the future" or that this regime is leading us to the top 25 or even that change might not be the best thing. I just get frustrated when our recent success gets minimized to support an agenda. NT has, frankly, a pretty lousy history in football and had had very little to crow about at any point. Sure, we have our legends and our history and we SHOULD hang on to that and respect that. But to say that we just don't have the vision or ability or even DESIRE to get to these "oh so lofty" levels we were at 30+ years ago (which, frankly, we were hardly ever that lofty) does a disservice to the players, coaches, students, and administration that achieved four straight conference championships over a four year span -- Which, in MY humble opinion only, is the unquestioned most successful time (over a multiple season span) in MG football history. Again, I think you're great, PMG - I can't wait for you to get back on board and in the stadium, and hope that your visions of Top-25 football are someday fulfilled. I just think we did something pretty darn great those four years (two national rushing champions, longest conference winning streak in the country, bowl win over CUSA champ), especially by NT standards. Things that i could not have possibly DREAMED of during the Helwig days. Maybe I enjoyed it too much. I'm not saying that absolves DD & Co. for the present state of affairs or into the future - I know we're struggling now, I've never said I'd necessarily be against change at this point. Honestly, one of the biggest things that makes me lean to the side of KEEPING DD is the fact that I have no confidence in what we would get being any better, and I don't believe in change for the sake of change. Anyway, all I'm talking about is the run we had - not arguing that we shouldn't have done more with it, shouldn't be farther along now, etc. I'm not an apologist, I'm not a blind DD supporter -- I just can't stand seeing our recent run minimized in any way, even against out own history. Hope you watch the game this weekend - maybe we can pull a rabbit out of the hat w/o any expectations to win this time... GMG!
  5. In the 70's, (70-79), NT averaged exactly 5 wins per season, with a 1-win season and 2 3-win seasons. In the 00's, NT thusfar has averaged 5.66 wins per season, with a 2-win season.
  6. That's actually a pretty genius comment right there.
  7. Mike Taylor's generic fake radio voice whips me. That, and the moronic shrew he shares the airwaves with...
  8. It's been a difficult time for DD and family this year... our thoughts and prayers are with our Coach and his family.
  9. RV has done a lot of great things for the department, so I'm not indicting him on anything here... he's a lot better than his predecessor. As far as coaching hires, however, I'll agree slightly on JJ. I think he seemed like a gift at first because the Trilli era (when i was in school at NT) was so, so, so pathetic. But based on his progress, yeah, I think this is a make or break year. I wonder how look at the sports differently, you know?? What if JJ had been below average in non-con, beating up on weak sisters and getting the occasional mid-major or low-BCS win, but rolled through the SBC, winning 4 straight league championships, being undefeated for three of those years. We usually flamed out in the first round of the NCAAs, getting beaten soundly, but once scored a mild upset (maybe a 7-10 or 6-11 game). Then, JJ has a year where he wins 6 or 7 games and crashes back to earth, and started the next season with a few non-con blowouts, one rivalry mid-major win, and weak-looking split in the SBC that put the team at .500 in conference with 2/3rds of the way to go. Oh yeah, also, during this whole run, even in the good years, Jones had a very plodding, methodical, pound-you-down-on-the-blocks offense that was not great to watch and won games 50-40, etc. I KNOW things are different in the two sports, but it's an interesting thought. I'm not putting any agenda out there one way or the other -- I just wonder if we would have the same look/reaction as we do with DD, or are our expectations totally different for hoops? Just a question.
  10. Also, Auburn has one loss, that being a bad loss at home to Arkansas. I think there are a few one-loss teams that would be ahead of ol' War Eagle.
  11. You, my friend, are a genius. That's former Canes WR Lamar Thomas, who did just that. He has a nice college career, though is most notable from having George Teague just take the ball out of his hands from behind after catching a long bomb in the NC game..... what a disgrace.
  12. Enjoy the posts from the FIU fan claiming the F-U's are the only hope for the SBC to be successful nationally, putting down other states, and claiming every other SBC school is a podunk town... all in the face of a clearly sane and patient MT fan. http://fiuathleticscom.proboards20.com/ind...read=1160873885
  13. Cool find. Nice pub!
  14. ::edited::
  15. Likewise... I got more calls and e-mails today than I did after SMU...
  16. And I understand that. I understand that you are anxious for a change. What I am trying to determine is what exactly would allow you to enjoy your "fandom" of the Mean Green this season? When every post/response to every game, every move, and every play is the same no-other-way-to-look-at-it unbridled negativity -- which is your right, of course -- I just wonder what would be satisfying to you. You predicted a 24-6 loss to FIU (which is just about what all of us would have guessed based on previous performance from both teams), and as ugly as it may have been, NT did enough to not only play it closer than you expected, but to gut out a win. That's a WHOLE lot more than you (or most of us, really) expected given the pre-game predictions on this very board. You site the stats/numbers as why you deemed this game pathetic and a disgrace. Is that your measuring stick? Im genuinely asking here - if we had a better offensive performance, threw up 350+ yards of offense, moved the ball effectively, but lost by 3 scores because of a few bad bounces, etc., whatever -- would you not have been this sour and negative about everything? What would you have said if we had broken a couple of close plays big and won by 2 or 3 scores? Would you have been happy, or looked for reasons to complain? Does any part of you feel a little excitement or joy when something goes wrong for NT? I'm just trying to understand. You have every right to feel how you do - I don't think you'll find many (other than a few with very green-tinted glasses) who claim all is well or this team is poised for a title run or even that DD and staff have earned the right to stay beyond the season. I'm just trying to see where you're coming from here.... I know you're getting a lot of grief for not going to the games, and though sure, it would be great if we ALL could make every game, I'm sure you have your obligations and reasons - hell, I'll take any NT fan we can GET, no matter how in absentia, negative, or otherwise. We need every one of 'em. So I don't think any less of your fandom for that -- I just wonder what it is you're looking for, because this is just an unprecedent string of negative posts, about every little detail. I may sit here and look at this program and where we're headed and where we are and think to myself that a change is needed. That we had the right coach for the right time a few years ago, but we need a fresh voice to get to that next level. I may think that the best thing we can hope for is change at the end of the season. But I guess I just can't turn off that deep rooted love for this school and this team that revels in every success and every win -- and no matter what my feelings are about what should happen at year's end -- I want to win all of these.
  17. Pretty sure that was sarcasm. No one has said that there aren't valid criticisms or that all is well and there is nothing to be concerned about. I think the only reason any of us emphasized the win in that way was in response to the fans who were calling the team's performance "pathetic" and a "disgrace" in the immediate moments following a victory that none of them expected. I have no problem with objective criticism of the team's performance. Lord knows there is plenty to look at. I think most of us had an issue with the reaction of a select few who reacted to our victory like it was a blowout loss - despite the fact the team had admittedly exceeded their own expectations by a large margin. It's a very vocal minority who didn't enjoy the win last night - lord knows I'll take wins any way we can get 'em these days. Doesn't mean there aren't fair criticisms, doesn't mean we all don't want better. Does mean it was a helluva performance by a lot of those players out there -- the whole D with stop after stop at the goalline without any legs to stand on, JQ, JT's workload - darn right it does. I just don't feel as if the win and those performances need to be minimized and called a pathetic disgrace just because you want to see a change at HC. They're independent of one another. I mean, if you want us to lose every game so the change is assured, just say so... at least the honesty would be respected. I just want to know what these posters WANT - what would make you happy? Nothing has yet, big wins, big losses, close wins.. nothing. It doesn't matter who the coach is, what the situation is, what I want for the program. A NT win, anytime, anywhere, anyhow - is something I'll enjoy.
  18. We WON. You get that right??? I'm not saying anyone's job is safe. Nor should it be. I'm saying we FREAKING WON, people??? Almost ALL of you predicted a big loss!!! The DD Lynch Mob just makes me laugh... before the game, FIU was a good team, a team that almost beat Maryland, blah blah... now, we WIN, and "they're a freaking 0-5 team".. ..whatever suits your anti-NT agenda. Hope you all enjoy your misery tonight. Me? I could care less - I'm off to enjoy this tonight. See ya!
  19. C'mon guys... read the post again. GMG1999 predicted a 24-6 FIU win. We won by three. That means there was a 21 point differential in NT's favor from what GMG1999 EXPECTED to happen.... and he calls the NT win a disgrace.
  20. Wow... before the game you were calling for a FIU blowout and we all talked up the Golden Panthers, how close they were against great opposition...... what a difference an agenda makes, eh?? GMG!!!! Hard fought win!
  21. You predicted: FIU 24 NT 6 We won. We WON. Now, you're calling the game a "disgrace", despite a performance THREE TOUCHDOWNS BETTER than you expected. Are you a NT fan?? If yes, then take a deep breath and ENJOY THIS.
  22. We WON. Did you expect us to??? Is a win not a win, especially THIS year? Q: What were the winning teams in the longest OT games in NCAA history? A: Arkansas (right?) and North Texas. Damn right I'll take it.
