  1. Holy Hairopoulous!
  2. Dodge, Nix, or Price please.
  3. Being one who cares little about style points and mostly just Ws and Ls against quality opponents, I present the following (assuming Florida wins the SEC title): Michigan - one loss @ Ohio State; key wins - ND, Wisconsin, Penn State, Iowa USC - one loss @ Oregon State; key wins - Cal, Arkansas, ND, Oregon, Nebraska Florida - one loss @ Auburn; key wins - LSU, Tennessee, Arkansas, Bama, Georgia, SCar Average scores - Michigan 30.4, Opponents 14.3 USC 32.5, Opponents 14.9 Florida 28.9, Opponents 11.4 Yes, Florida could easily lose to Arkansas -- but that's why this is a hypothetical. I'm wondering, do style points matter THAT much? That's the only reason that I hear for why Florida isn't really even in the discussion, and why USC will face OSU if they beat UCLA, and Michigan will if they don't -- I just think the USC bias may be rearing it's head a bit here. SC CLEARLY has the worst loss of the three, and I'd argue that Michigan has the fewest quality wins. Also, SC, IMHO, plays in the weakest conference (though you could argue against the very top-heavy Big 10). And Michigan didn't even win their own conference, which I have a slight issue with (see Nebraska getting run off the field by Miami a few years ago). My point is this -- given the stats, the bodies of work, and the strength of schedule -- if Arizona or Washington or Stanford had the exact same year this year that SC had, I don't think they'd be in the discussion -- at least not at this level.
  4. Yeah.... Trinity vs. Carroll wasn't that big of a game anyway. Good grief. Not to mention her previous blog railing against the DD firing. Well, I guess when you don't actually attend or really follow the team when you GO to the school, stuff like that happens. I know it's Sherman/Denison, but good grief.
  5. Great post, Smitty.
  6. btw, the best thing about this thread being resurrected is seeing examples of PMG posts pre-technicolor. Ah, the nostalgia really comes out thick during the holidays...
  7. That was a great day.. I was on the sidelines for that chant, and we couldn't believe it.... didn't we hold LaDainian Tomlinson to his season/career low in rushing yards that day??
  8. co-championships with no bowl bids aren't really championships at all though, are they? I mean, when you lose to the champion and all... kinda settles it right there on the ol' field. Just having fun with you, BRP -- I think you guys were clearly the best team in the Belt this year -- just frustrating as hell to yack one up like that in that spot.
  9. Nix is one fiery SOB. I've watched 4 or 5 SC games this year (I swear, they're always on TV), and you can't miss the guy... barking into his headset, at players, running up and down the sidelines, nearly jumping into piles. Though this would surely be toned down as HC, he's about as passionate as passionate gets. Not saying he's my first choice, but don't let a USM connection give you an instant negative impression on this guy -- a young, visible, energetic SEC coordinator is not a bad way to go. And having a couple years working with coaches who run Spurrier's Fun n' Gun offense under his belt, the guy has to know some decent offensive minds. I know he's no 65+ year old retread with a "big name" for something he did at a major BCS school 20 years ago, but as far as making a splash nationally goes, hiring a well thought of SEC coordinator ain't half bad. Plus, if i'm not mistaken, he'd be the only African-American D1 head coach in Texas -- and I know, I know, it doesn't matter when hiring the best guy -- but for PR sakes, it sure as hell doesn't hurt either.
  10. I don't know, I love croonies.
  11. Will MT EVER win a conference title?
  12. Tell that to Scott Hall, Patrick Cobbs, Brandon Kennedy, Jonas Buckles, Johnny Quinn, Brad Kassell, Cody Spencer, etc.. ..and somehow, WW and the SBC sure didn't help LaLa, LaMo, MTSU, FAU, FIU, Arkansas State, etc. get to bowls those years. Say what you want about the SBC, those NT teams were GOOD. If it were so easy to win the Belt, why were we the only team to do it for four years?
  13. Good times with Eagle Man, volume XLIII.
  14. Next year will be the year Fran makes or loses his way, period. This year, 9 wins in nice, but it was a cake schedule. Next year, Fran has the following ON THE ROAD: @Miami (FL) @Texas Tech @Missouri @Nebraska @Oklahoma Plus the home date with Texas and fast improving Okie State. Win 8 or 9 with THAT schedule, and you've earned a few more years.
  15. Nope -- I was not at that game (sadly)... but it sounds like a helluva story.
  16. The whole point is the "easily expandable" part. It makes fiscal sense to start at 32k or so and add on as needed. It's cheap, quick, defers cost, and can easily be done.
  17. I've only been treated like dog s- in two visiting venues when following NT. LSU and Oklahoma (twice). Those are the only places where we just didn't even have much of a good time because the fans were so arrogant, obnoxious, and personally offensive towards NT fans. There's no close third place for me... and believe me, I love a good-natured ribbing as much as anyone. I have many good friends who are Aggies - reasonable, realistic Aggies. The only thing negative about this TAMU win is that it helps Big Red's Car Dealership in Norman.
  18. Bingo. To have an initial build over 40k would be a big mistake, both $$$ wise and attendance wise. This is why the plans are they way they are.
  19. And as we discuss this, check out MNF tonight -- take a peek at what the Jags have busted out.
  20. Hmm.. this is a good one. Penn State and Michigan come to mind first... who else? Seems like there are several - most just have the tiny logo at the neckline.
  21. Yeah, you're exactly right -- and I agree, it looked HORRID. Seemed like every Noles fan I spoke to here in FL either loved or hated the look.
  22. What? Where did I say we were a high school? You stated that players would never be allowed input on what uni they'd wear. "Period". I just responded that even at the high school level, that is an occasional practice. I also never said anything about school colors (or lack there of), Simply that it was in the realm of possibility the players had input, not that they specifically did in this case. I'm not in the business of determining "elements of evil" in photographs, but do think it would make a kick ass band name.
  23. Oh, I agree entirely with the colors thing. I'm with you 100%. Just stating that the players having a hand in deciding what jerseys to wear is not unheard of. Doesn't it seem like EVERYONE has a black accent jersey these days? Man, that must be the hip thing these days. I recall the Detroit Lions wearing it a bunch last season, and the Eagles have the past few.. The Mets in baseball come to mind as well.
  24. We had about 5 uni combinations when I played in high school, and the players did, in fact, get to choose what we wore at homecoming and in any game after we won 4 straight. And that was high school. I would think, just a possibility, that the seniors would have some input in what we wore the last game at Fouts. Not saying that happened, but it's surely not "they don't decide period".. an "evil element in that picture". That's it. I need a break.
  25. not sure of the source, but another thread Harry intimated it was a player-driven decision, they liked them, and to move on.
