  1. You guys are way to up tight about the "right" color of green and not using accent colors like black or whatever. I'd be ok with black, grey, silver with any combination of shades of green. A multi shaded green uniform could look cool. As long as the team likes it and it gets us good press and makes us look modern we should do it. A talented designer should be able to come up with cool looks. So far we have been scared of this and it's part of the marketing of your program.
  2. It would be cool to see Missouri at Apogee. With our luck, Missouri will be on some kind of remarkable undefeated run that year that has them ranked top 10.
  3. Spot on. Based on the spring game, Morris looked ok and Shanbour looked very good. At the same time many have said that that was probably because of the 1 v 1 and 2 v 2 nature of the scrimmage but that Shanbour deserves a chance. It also sounds like he is being given a chance. Most of the angst is because Vito has anointed Morris the starter when the scrimmage we all saw he didn't look great, and also because Shanbour was buried last year when everyone got a tryout at QB, and that is fueling the rally cry for him now since he clearly has something and should have been given the chance sooner.
  4. I think it's really pretty simple. Athletics was never a priority for the university, and having an engaged alumni base wasn't either until about the last 10 years. So everyone who went to UNT was forced to either support athletics and be laughed at by others (the minute few here mostly), or don't support it say yeah we suck, I follow Insert T-Shirt School (the vast majority). With everything in place we are still a joke, and that is what is making the minute few jump off the bridge.
  5. Well his twitter profile does say " Mean Green QB commit. "
  6. So a walk-on QB maybe for this year.
  7. Yeah sorry, I know how to twitter, just not on here. Thanks @MGNation92
  8. Any football recruiting gurus know what this might mean? <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Excited to continue my football career at the University of North Texas next year! <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/GoMeanGreen?src=hash">#GoMeanGreen</a> <a href="https://t.co/dSGaBllozE">pic.twitter.com/dSGaBllozE</a></p>&mdash; Mitch Cason (@mitchcason) <a href="https://twitter.com/mitchcason/status/727202532250910720">May 2, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
  9. Interesting post by Harry. I doubt Coach Littrell was provided a fair assessment of the fanbase. Where we have have gotten that? Unless there is someone very level headed in the AD office who was in charge of that, they will probably think that most on here are idiots. However, as much as I'm loathe to read another @UNT90 post about the failings of the leadership, he's basically right. And it's pretty much universal that even the ones arguing with him here to shut up about it agree with him. Where I think that discord resonates though is that it's central to where this apathy lies that @Harry spoke about. Things are different around here now. We do have a conference, a budget, the facilities, to compete and yet we don't. This is where the real apathy has set in. I think it's different this time around. For years on here and the previous board, you'd have people get sick of the losing and throw fits and then eventually disappear (assuming from attending games as well). But the majority here could always see many reasons why we shouldn't be competing and just kept on plugging along thinking we needed to support the program because it didn't have a full deck to play with and if we gave up it might just go away. As @Cerebus rightly said, 95%+ of the alumni didn't care, so we tried to take up the slack. But with these new things that have seemingly leveled the playing field, we are no further along playing on that leveled field. We still lose every year. I do think where I differ on this is that, we are very early in that "being on a level playing field". I also think this football staff is one that could turn it around. However, my indifference, is deeper in that I don't think we can maintain success. There aren't enough building blocks there. The season ticket base is woefully small, the MGC is woefully small, there just isn't any major improvement in the base of fans. So even best case we go 6-6 this year and make it to a bowl next, i don't think the roots and building blocks are there to make it something the other 95%+ jump on board with. I guess for me the difference is, I used to always see reasons why we lost. Now I don't see those reasons, but we still lose. And I don't believe that even if Littrell turns it around that the school could take advantage of that and double or triple the fan base. This more than anything makes me have apathy. Hopefully Littrell and his staff can not just win, but do something that we don't expect. Like get ranked. Because it will take this kind of jolt to move the needle around here.
  10. Several surprises for me. Guys that started last year not even listed like Turner Smiley (WR) and Roderick Young (DT) The amount of new guys starting in the OL (Keenan, Henson) The depth comment made before the spring game is probably understated.
  11. Probably because it wasn't a "game" with score being kept. It made it much more difficult for someone watching to get a feel for how we were doing. For example, last year (i think) it was obvious we were terrible because the 1st team offense couldn't do enough against the 2nd team defense to overcome the points spotted to the 2nd team. It was a huge red flag. Yes there were so many big plays made on offense. Last year there were virtually none except for 2 maybe 3 busted plays that led to McNulty stats looking decent at the end of the day and then that being the story. Reality was, the offense could do very little last year. I remember that was the discussion this time last year.
  12. Goree looked very good. I'm excited to see what he can do this year. Our WR corps is thin, but it has better potential than it has the last two years.
  13. Both Morris and Shanbour looked better than anything we trotted out there in last years spring game. Remember how last years 1 offense couldn't move the ball on last years 2 defense?
  14. Patting yourself on the back for always predicting a bottom of the NCAA program (UNT) program will fail, is like someone patting themselves on the back for always guessing the wrong lottery numbers.
  15. Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with this site MeanGreenNation.com and their podcast is another good place for well reasoned input and insight.
  16. I don't think you know how hope works. /shrug
  17. This situation, assuming nothing happens, does start to make me think the sky is falling - conspiracy theorists are right. It also makes me question how much I should continue to support at all. I mean... in football there were some positives in the entire McCarney era, and when things were obviously bad a change was made surprisingly soon. But it seems that we just don't care about basketball. Either that or we can't afford to make a change, so we're making excuses for why things will be better the next year. It depresses me. If football didn't have tailgating where I get to spend time with family and friends, i'd be out completely.
  18. I believe it is a lot more hostile around here now. And it's sort of a good thing, and it's RV's fault but maybe not in the way you think initially. During his tenure, especially the last 6 years a lot of things got in place that most of us thought were needed to actually make this thing a success. New stadium, new conference, actually having big money donors (the 17). Remember when if someone gave a million dollars it was shocking and a rarity? Basketball tourney appearances, FB in 2013. Well all of that raised expectations. The excuses have been removed. The fact we are terrible at all 3 big sports right now has people freaking out. We thought it was going to be different because everything is there now. You can't blame it on any of those convenient excuses ewe always had. Yet we are probably worse than ever before combined. So everyone's patience level has changed. Expectations are the difference.
  19. Best road game trip we've ever made including any of the big games. The games at West Point are just different. The Cadet Review on the plain is not to be missed. The cadets and band coming in before the game The cadets parachuting in (and knowing they aren't doing this for money they are doing it as training for real life) it's just special. Even watching that Dodge team get clobbered when DT broke his leg along with the return man who tore his knee etc., even with that, best road trip ever.
  20. So how is that 2014 class looking now? Seems as if that class should be making an impact this year and could be reason for optimism?
  21. Very interesting stuff @BillySee58. Thanks for doing this. It seems our last 3 recruiting classes are fairly good, with Littrells the lowest of the three. Does this mean we'll be bowling and saying Littrell did it with Mccarney's players?
  22. We are definitely taking the trip to the Army game and highly recommend to anyone else. It is a great place to see a game. And pageantry, they've got it.
  23. I struggled giving a rating but went B-. Here are some things I think I've learned from following this year while comparing to the other new staffs. In a new staff situation recruiting comes down to, how many guys were already being recruited when you got the job (that is clearly a major disadvantage to Littrell as Mac appeared to leave him with nothing as @Harry said. And, how well connected the coach and staff are in the new area they are going to recruit and/or how many of the guys they were recruiting at their previous stop could they flip. This also was clearly a disadvantage. Those two points make it kind of a much worse hire because of the situation we are in, which is not good. Both of those factors are going to make it harder for Litrell. It comes down to this me, the hire will be made by the next year. One of two things have to happen. As @BillySee58 said, the work they did this year (which does seem to be good) pays offs, or if the staff wins games much more this year on the field, one of those has to lead to a better recruiting class. If either the work this year or the results on the field next year lead to a top 3 class then the hire has a chance. I don't mean to say it's too early to grade, I mean to say the hire so far hasn't paid off based on what I learned about recruiting. It made it harder for this class to surprise. I went B- because I think they could be a good staff, but those things I mentioned I learned are making it harder for them.
