To me this just means they're both terrible. I'm also not a person who blames it on the scheme (3-3-5). I think the scheme can work fine if the coaches know how to implement it, which obviously this staff doesn't

yep, could easily make the argument if he was only 100th place that he needs more time to develop his guys. not when you're dead last, that indicates gross incompetence. i dont even need to see the stats to know they come out flat every single game. the lack of preparation is out of this world terrible. there is nothing to build on here, time to move on

We can't even celebrate the heritage of players with a tiny barey visible sticker on the back of a helmet without people getting offended? Not even sure why this nonsense crept it's way into a discussion about the design of the helmet, this is an extremely common gesture in many sports, let it go.

Is the "Triangle of Toughness" moving to College Station?
aprice replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
I concur. It should not be that hard to find a competent defense after building an elite offense. I think he is on to something special -
That's exactly the look I was thinking. I don't get all these weird combinations, I think something simple like this could be iconic and well, it just makes sense given the mean green moniker
-
Does anyone disagree that these are by far the best helmets? Maybe I'm crazy, but I think it would be even better with no logo at all. Just a chrome green helmet for every uniform combination.

I'm assuming he's out there for his defense. He is long and brings good energy. I have no doubt he is capable of hitting those catch and shoot 3s, but clearly lacks confidence. I hope he finds it

Should Matt Caponi Be Fired? My Thoughts on the Situation.

if my employee can be fire for being 5 mins late in a 3 months span, I think we might have a case against caponi -

I'd see your point if we weren't dead last in the FBS. You have to be next level incompetent to be last out of 130 teams. If we were 90th or 100th, I would totally agree with you. I don't see it as a risk to move on when it is nearly impossible to be as inept on defense as we currently are. I think it's riskier to do nothing, but I hope I'm wrong if the decision is to maintain the status quo- 98 replies

***OFFICIAL UTSA vs. UNT Game Day Discussion***
aprice replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
I'd love to hear what was said during the offensive game planning meetings. What do you think we should do? Run the ball a lot? Sounds good, that about wraps it up boys, good night -
https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/north-texas/2007-schedule.html We were competitive in 4 games in dodge's first season and blown out in most of them... In the subsequent seasons it was no better. In case we all need a reminder

We have statistically the best offense in the American. 485 yd/game. And it not just passing 180 comes from the ground. This offense has been the most consistent in the league. Because they score in bunches and not on every drive, "they aren't very good". If my expectations were this high, I'd give up watching college football, you're just going to be disappointed every game -
I'd love to see actual data on this but swear our D gives up a 40+ yard run on the opening drive every single game. I think even ACU had one. Why does this happen every single game? They seem to improve (slightly) as games go on but that's only because they start off so horrendous that even a bad performance looks like an improvement I'm comparison

The offense is very good I'll judge the head coach after the season if we don't clean house on the defensive side. It's not just coming out flat literally every game or bad schemes or bad fundamentals, it's also shockingly bad situational awareness. That said if they are able to find even a mediocre defensive staff, we'll be in the hunt for a championship.- 332 replies

The run D tends to tighten up as the game goes on. Every single game we allow a long run on the first drive, they just don't come in prepared -

Why does it feel like we're always playing prevent defense -
College football has always been top heavy. Look at our all time record vs power schools if you need a reminder...hell, look at our all time record against SMU for God's sake. I really don't think this changes anything for us

Per capita, I bet Texas isn't in the top 10 of most FBS teams. Alabama has 4, Wyoming at 1, and Oregon at 2 all have more FBS schools per capita than TX, and that's just off the top of my head without even trying hard. If we're talking about P5 schools per capita, TX is probably in the bottom 5

My guess is that our defense was so bad, it made earle look much better than he really is, which made it tough to give a fair assessment of the two. That's with giving a very generous benefit of the doubt
-
The only stops we got vs LA tech were when they failed to execute. It was nothing we did, I hope no one was fooled.
-
ya never know how a booty hole gonna act when the lights come on
-
Don't you think there's gotta be somewhere between worst defense in the FBS and Alabama
-
I really think we should run the clock out down to 1 second. I could absolutely see them scoring with 2 seconds left after 12 missed tackles
-
i was not fooled by the score in the first half. tech was super sloppy and any competent team would have easily put up more points. this defense only looks good when the other team drops balls and sails passes. its really bad and not going to get better this year, don't allow yourself to get your hopes up. its fundamentally broken. The offense gives me hope though for coach morris. As long as he cleans house on the defensive side after the year is over, he may have something here.

Seriously? I have nothing to add about the aggies other than this https://houstonsportsteams.com/spalm/TexasAM.html Tech has won quite a few bowl games, is ranked nationally frequently, and still struggles to sell out their stadium despite hosting name brand opponents. Not sure what point you're making with these.
