Its just a matter of time before memphis, tulane, and USF jump ship. I'm sure the AAC is aware. Whether they leave now or later, we should be expanding with the expectation of this happening. I am extremely skeptical that UTSA is really on the radar of the newpac, but if so, we need to get TSU in here. I honestly hope they do take UTSA, if that means we can bring in TSU that is a net positive as far as im concerned.

I disagree with the SMU and TCU taking potential market share. Their fan bases really aren't very big, especially SMU which is basically non existent. The real market share were losing are all of the UT and OU T-shirt fans, but your point still stands. Fundamentally we have a cultural problem that has been around for decades. If only a tiny fraction of our alumni base are willing to represent the brand, there's zero chance of taking share from the average T-shirt fan. Because of the PUF, the only 2 universities that your average normie likes to rep is UT and A&M. I know for certain that "stolen prestige" is a massive reason why these people exist. They get to walk around with UT shirts while having no affiliation with the school to feel good about accomplishments they've never earned. We all know these people. I'm skeptical its even possible to tap into this crowd anytime soon, but until our own graduates show pride, its a non-starter to start taking their share. I am optimistic though about slow change thanks to the TUF, perceptions should slowly improve. The problem is UNT's perception as second choice commuter school is deeply ingrained in the minds of most of these people we're trying to take share from. Why associate with a "loser" when you can just buy a t-shirt from wal-mart and be a winner Most the large programs have monster budgets not because of their alums, its the t-shirt fan viewership driving the media dollars and by extension, conference realignment. (unless you are bankrolled by billionaires)

The extra revenue should ease the travel concerns, but everything else I agree with. Unfortunately, in the current landscape, it doesn't even have to make sense. UTSA must have god tier PR folks because their name pops up into these conservations by casuals without a second thought. Their facilities are atrocious, they have no real college game day experience in either football (off-campus aging facility), or basketball (high school gym). Their ratings aren't any better than ours and neither is their attendance. You can be sure as shit that once they start losing again, and they will, the alamo dome will go back to feeling like a dystopian nightmare. Part of me hopes they move to be honest, they will be the doormat of their conference for years to come if they have to compete with programs with much larger budgets and resources.

Its as good as done already, Tulane and Memphis are gone. The 4 MWC schools would never have joined a 6 team conference without their closed door commitments in the first place. It really makes no difference long term. The super league that is forming is going to put everyone back to square 1 in a decade. We will realign again, and again, and again. My prediction is that at some point we'll end right back up to where we started.

Why do you need to position yourself in the best G5 league? I know I'm in the minority, but I think it would benefit every G5er to stay/go regional to build rivalries. UNT's entire lifespan has been a revolving door of conferences, it's not a secret why were devoid of a natural rival. The constant chase for exclusivity and prestige so I can brag to my co-workers about a football game, is a juvenile way to view the landscape of college sports, in my opinion. From time to time if you take a step back and look at what's really at stake here, you gain some perspective. I like watching UNT football because I like to support the school I went to, its really as simple as that.

500k is a lot of money for UNT, this is the part that I can understand for not getting rid of him. Your second point I don't necessarily agree with. All you have to do is tell the new DC that we expect you to not be bottom 5 in every defensive category and you're good. I understand long term, guaranteed contracts for highly sought after coaches with a track record of success at the FBS level. I do, that's the only way to bring in someone with skins on the wall. However, I don't see why we have to guarantee money to first time (FBS) coaches and coordinators for 5 years. Imagine getting that kind of runway at your job. You can douchebag up for FIVE YEARS, with pay, before suffering any consequences. Is there any precedent for writing in clauses that give the university the option to terminate if certain metrics aren't satisfied? Like you need to get 6 wins by year 2, 8 by year 3, etc? We are in a new era of college football. At a school like UNT, you are going to lose half your roster each year no matter what, the continuity and 4 year development cycles are over. Its no longer an excuse to say "I need to get my guys in here", that just isn't an issue anymore.

I don't know who the safety was, but on tech's very first TD, I told my wife that the slot receiver was going to run a slant route and he was going to be open. It was 3rd and 10 so they pretty much have to pass it. What does the safety do? He steps up for some reason anticipating a run and leaves the area wide open for an easy TD. What the douchebag is the point of the 3-3-5? They have no idea what they're doing. The coaches, nor the players. Why the douchebag would you step up on a 3rd and 10 at the goalline?? The players are badly coached with no game sense. If you're going to run the 3-3-5 and get baited that easily, you might as well just have an actual LB or DT up there in the first place, and maybe have a chance at getting pressure on the QB once in a while. This one was egregious because it was a very obvious pass situation, they got baited all night long when it wasn't so obvious and were torched, over and over again.

He secured a 5 year, multi million dollar contract. That's what he's done to keep his job. Without a mega donor willing to cut a check, getting rid of him isn't in the realm of possibility. We can and should boot caponi though. Should have done it last year. I haven't witnessed a more inept defense since Mendoza graced us with his services.

That's not what I'm trying to say. In this age youre going to get a new roster every year. You're going to find out really fast if the coach has what it takes, since there is no longer a 4 year lifecycle of player development. Why do we have to be stuck with a bad, unproven coach for 5 years. Why not sign unproven coaches to 2 years deals until we find someone who doesn't suck

This talk about not being prepared for this game is kind of silly to me. They aren't prepared for this season. When you bring back the same scheme and same coach, who was the architect for the worst defense in the FBS, what do you expect?

He gave us his all for 3 years, he doesn't owe anyone anything other than to do what's right for him. I can't think of any player in a UNT uniform that put as much effort on the floor as this man did. This should be a thread celebrating his achievements and nothing else. Its the head coach's job to backfill with talented players that aren't seeing playing time at p6 programs or with high producing players at lower tier programs. That's how this works, get used to and quit crying about it. If the coach cant do it that's on him and him alone. Adapt or die

no reason to panic about anything really, i think we've seen some great performances while shorthanded, against really good teams. it is what it is, i think this team is built to really compete next year

What brought them here was 2 good teams competing against each other with an added bonus of the opponent being local. Nobody did anything extra to get people out other than both of them being good. As long as that is the focus, attendance will naturally improve.

Stone Earle is probably good enough to get us 7-8 wins if we had an average defense. The problem is that we relied so heavily on the QB to get us just 5 wins and that's with one of the best QB seasons of all time. How many wins can Earle guide us to if our defense is as bad as it was last year. My guess would be 1 or 2. Its kind of unfair to put this all on the QB, what are the odds that we find a player who can repeat last year's performance in year 1? tldr; the defense's historically bad year puts unfair pressure on getting a QB to perform at all conference levels on day 1

it looks like to me like Ross has finally decided to ditch the idea of Scott/Jones being the primary scorers and ball handlers, thank god. They are fantastic role players, but i don't see them as primary scoring threats or facilitators

To me this just means they're both terrible. I'm also not a person who blames it on the scheme (3-3-5). I think the scheme can work fine if the coaches know how to implement it, which obviously this staff doesn't

yep, could easily make the argument if he was only 100th place that he needs more time to develop his guys. not when you're dead last, that indicates gross incompetence. i dont even need to see the stats to know they come out flat every single game. the lack of preparation is out of this world terrible. there is nothing to build on here, time to move on
