  1. Also think in the back of his mind is Seth's experience of not taking a higher profile job when offerred and the resulting history of that decision...strike while the iron it hot if you are a competitve person who wants to challenge yourself at another level. Wish he would stay but also wish him well if he moves on to Tech...he deserves our thanks and best wishes because he gave us his all out effort while here.
  2. I often wonder if Grant thinks about what happened to Seth when he didn't leave for the bigger stage when he had the chance. I do think Grant will keep winning at UNT but the AAC will be a tougher road.
  3. Me too...I watched her play as far back as high school and she has always been a class act
  4. Unless she is really set on continuing in coaching, I hope they find a role for her in the athletic department as an ambassador for UNT. I think she would be an asset.
  5. Note we have the fewest home games played at 6, along with Middle Tennessee
  6. Down to 4 healthy players against WKU on Sunday, but managed to pick up 1 point in a 4-1 loss due to forfeits. Anyone know the health/injury issues of the players and how long they will be out?
  7. UNT Tennis was finally ranked for the first time (#69 in the nation) going into a 3-match stretch Friday. Unfortunately they only had 5 healthy players so they had to forfeit two singles matches and a doubles match against Tulane Friday and UTSA Saturday, losing 4-0 in each match. Terrible time to be shorthanded. WKU is up on Sunday. I don't know if the injuries are long-term or not, but the timing could not have been worse. Hopefully they are back at full-strength soon! GMG
  8. I think there is a difference between the Most Valuable Player and the Best Player. Jelly Walker may be the best, most talented player, but Tylor was the Most Valuable Player to his team, thus earning the MVP Award.
  9. Perhaps there is a position within the Athletic Department that could utilize her ambassador skills?
  10. Interesting that all 5 members are from Texas universities
  11. Plus only one of the matches looked competitive. FIU was ranked #45 so they are a good team, but I had hoped for closer matches.
  12. Seems like I remember that in the past searchlights were used around the Super Pit on game nights...very effective because they could be seen at a distance
  13. So according to this guy, Austin Aune will be back as quarterback next year...breaking news to UNT, I think
  14. Am I reading this correctly...SMU and UAB are Friday games?
  15. Taking your idea a little further....perhaps we could have winners in different categories, i.e. Greek organization, athletic team, campus organization, dorm, etc., to encourage competition among peer groups. I think that might encourage more involvement because you would be compteting against your peer group.
  16. Will give the coaches an opportunity to see how their players would be treated if they joined the Mean Green as well as pick up some coaching tips
  17. Coach Maren is a good coach. It also helps that LIberty seems to have unlimited funds for athletics, a problem that UNT does not currently have.
  18. UNT has never even had one indoor court, having to play at out-of-town facilities in bad weather. One indoor court, I believe is on the long-term master plan, but they really need to have about 6 to be able to hold matches indoors when needed. Does anyone know about AAC schools and their indoor tennis facilities? I know SMU has a very nice one but am not sure about the other schools.
  19. The Mean Green (7-3) were not very competitive this weekend against Maryland, losing 1-4, and Liberty, losing 0-4. They are back home, where they are undefeated, this Sunday at 11:00 against South Florida. They defeated South Florida 4-1 last season. GMG
  20. Thanks for the information. It looks like some talented players left to play at larger schools in Ole Miss and Michigan State. I hope we can keep the underclassmen for next year's team. I would imagine with foreign players there are more issues to deal with than with American players since they are so far away from home. I hope to see them do well in the CUSA tournament. GMG
  21. Did they lose many underclassmen from last year's team or have a lot of graduates? You seem to be knowledgable on these matters. I could look it up but it is sometimes hard to tell with the covid year issues and classifications and years of eligibility.
  22. Nice career accomplishment for Coach Lama and he did move UNT tennis to another level since he came aboard 17 years ago. However we have stayed at about the same level most of those years. Time to move up a couple of more levels to meet the standards that have been set for UNT athletic teams. I believe all 3 conference titles were when UNT was in the Sun Belt. I may be wrong but I don't remember us even making the finals in any CUSA Tournament. We need to up our game in moving to the AAC to be competitive. Anxious to see how this year's team does in our final CUSA Tournament. They have recently beaten weak teams, lost to ranked teams, and played some good teams well. A good showing in the final CUSA tournament would be a nice way to end our stay in CUSA. GMG
  23. Total agree on return of the Scrappy Squad lineup
