UNT has an obvious hated rival: UNT. We have met the enemy and he is us.

Varsity replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
You just can't dislike Dandy Don. He was just a good od Texas boy. I think I hear Hank Hill crying. R.I.P. Dandy. -
Greg Davis Resigns
Varsity replied to bdan2002's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Well, now that Greg Davis is available I'm sure offers for head coaching jobs will roll in. -
Interesting turn of events to say the least.

When I saw that big Ulala guy slap the PAT down like a mosquito I got physically ill. I thought the entire contents of my body would drop right out of my bowels and spill onto the floor. This has gotten uglier than ugly.

Yeah, Texas is overrated. You can't lose your starting QB for four years and think the offense will juck stay in gear. I felt the Longhorns could lose three games this season. They might lose four.

Shuck Offense! Lets Go With Flying Wishbone!
Varsity replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
The 1970 Cotton Bowl was the first bowl game in 50 years for Notorious Dame. I am down (as the kids say) with opting for the Flying Wishbone. I have seen the devistation that option football can bring as a Veer fullback and a defensive end who faced one of the best Wishbone attacks in Texas HS football history: the 1977-79 La Porte Bulldogs. You mix in a passing attack with all that ... BOOM goes the dynamite! -
Yeah, what are a few on-campus rapes compared to winning some games?

Hire UMass' coach. In averting my eyes from the disaster at West Point, I flipped over to UMass-Michigan. Though not spectacular, the Minutemen are very disciplined, focused and they play hard all game long.

New U Of Houston Facilities Upgrades
Varsity replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
I wonder if UH will ever build that. Going to Robertson was a step backward and they don't have the financial support to get that new facility done. I grew up in the Houston area going to Cougar games in the Astrodome during the Bill Yeoman Veer days and I haven't seen their overall fan support rise one bit since then. The Run-n-Shoot/ Ware Heisman years boosted their profile but not their support. -
Do you mean downhill like easy or downhill like decline?

Huge win for the Bison. They have the most national championships in the FCS (Div. IAA). Turner Gill must feel pretty low at this point.

It was a good showing but the defense is going to have to step it up. Rice will be a toughie. Why kick a field goal down 28-7 at the start of the 4th qarter? Just go fer it.

Why College Football Blows Away The Nfl
Varsity replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
College football involves so much more than just two teams squaring off on the gridiron. The college game is flavored by diverse regional cultures that the plastic NFL can't come close to. Each school has its own heroes, its own great games its own golden eras. The NFL has franchises like McDonald's. College football has campuses and hangouts and ties that cross generations. They play college football in Canyon, Texas, Starkville, Mississippi, Corvallis, Oregon and Hanover, New Hampshire. The NFL has hooker cheerleaders, and teams that can move from Baltimore to Indianapolis or from Houston to Nashville whenever the owner gets into a snit. The college game has real natural rivalries that inspire passions. There is always a surprise in the college ranks, a new hot team. There is always an interesting story in college football that can be discovered or rediscovered. If playoffs are the great selling point for the NFL then I'm not buying. The WNBA has a playoff system, too, big friggin' deal. I hope college football never gets a playoff system and comes to look like the NFL. I love it the way it is. -
The best part of that show is when Abner talks about the Texans playning the Boston Patriots and going for a two-point conversion with no time left to win the game as Patriot fans ring the field. When the ball is snapped, a fan runs into the EZ and bats Cotton Davidson's pass down. The refs pick up the ball and call the conversion no good while Abner is yelling 'hey, hey wait a minute!' They show the film and the fan is clearly visible. I think the refs feared being engulfed in a riotous mob of drunken Bahstonians.

The bobble head is very rare, very rare indeed. The media guide isn't. I have one of those my ownself.
