Who here is doubting Morris?
-
It is a fact that Morris had less time to recruit and was put in a difficult spot by our AD replacing coaches when he did. We essentially missed the early signing period. That’s not Morris’ fault. Did he and his staff do a good job filling holes on short notice? Time will tell. However, many are coloring their opinion that this is a better class than what it is rated by either having a personal liking of Morris and his staff or by being shocked that he put together a class at all. I’ve been around too long to get overly excited about anything here until I see results on the field. Relying on our coaching staff to “coach up” these players is only something you say when you’ve been soundly beaten in recruiting…which we have the last 2 years. Just listen to the new DC in the video posted in this forum. He talks about how elite speed and skill from his players in the secondary make him a better coach. We do return a lot of guys next year. But after that we’re going to have to make up ground from the last 2 classes. Morris may be able to that…but he wouldn’t have to if we had recruited better. Keeping a lame duck staff impacted our class last year, and firing him too late this year hurt this class. We have to do better in the AD spot than we did.
-
He’s right, you know. 2 years in a row we ranked 8th or worse. The 3 years prior to that we were 1, 2 and 4th. Those 3 recruiting classes that ranked at or near the top of the conference got us to the conference championship. Recruiting matters and we are going to have to make up ground lost these last 2 years.

Get ready to be disappointed when Harris finally runs out of eligibility….. and utsa doesn’t fall off a cliff. Granted, it would not surprise me to see traylor leave the same offseason. Not necessarily because of Harris…but if he wins again this year, as we all expect, he’s going to be a scorching hot commodity.

I think very little of utsa the school. Having said that, and after attending the championship game, as long as they can continue to draw to the Alamodome they will be a problem to deal with. That dome provides them with a great atmosphere. Another thing to consider is that the San Antonio news actually covers them and puts them on TV and in print. We have Brett Vito. That’s it. The draw for kids to play there will be there as long as they aren’t terrible. Great atmosphere and TV coverage are real advantages. We literally went from looking down at them to celebrating every recruit we got a commit from that was offered by utsa like they were superstars. That‘s pretty telling and upsetting.

Breaking: DeShawn Gaddie enters Portal.
TIgreen01 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
You're not wrong. I think it's the sudden and complete separation from the previous "amateur" model we had to a full-on business that has turned people off. Whether or not this was always happening behind the scenes, the curtain still blocked this out for those who wanted to live with their heads in the sand. People wanted to believe that college athletes picked their school for the same reasons that they did. We get attached to these places and want to think that these athletes are just like us. Forget that Bama (and countless others) has been buying championships for decades. Personally, the misuse of NIL and the unlimited transfer portal (with no rules) has only served to increase my interest in the NFL and lessen my interest in college sports. I haven't had my head in the sand, but just want to see some standards and rules created to level the playing field. The way it is now will only serve the schools that are already rich. The NFL was setup like this prior to the salary cap and free agency being introduced in the 90s. Then those rules changes were introduced to help level the field and give all fanbases hope that they might be able to compete in any given year. Not surprisingly their ratings and revenues shot through the roof. If college sports are just going to be a business, then at least run it intelligently. Keeping a system in place that only serves the existing top 10-15 power schools caps the maximum number of interested fans. It's bad business. All the evidence you need is the CFP TV ratings that continue to slide year after year. -
Too many turnovers that turned into fast break points for FAU. That’s the difference. Agree with the others that the offense actually looked balanced…up until about 7 minutes left. Then we got into our familiar tight shell and everything has to be on Perry.
-
Last year's title game drew 22.5M. All time best rated CFP title game was 2015 at 25.3M. Big12/TCU has plenty of drawing power. Just need the team to be competitive to keep them tuned in. Viewership for this playoff format has been in near constant decline since the 2015 high. When the same teams make it every year it hurts the appeal across the nation. The move to 12 teams should help so long as they improve the regional representation and don't continue to concentrate too many teams from just 1-2 conferences.

I'd be more worried about TCU opening up as far as Mac leaving to go anywhere. You can get to TCU in ~35 min from Argyle. SMU is closer to 55, and can get really out of hand in traffic. In all honesty, I think that job makes even more sense than Baylor for Mac. Baylor has won a natty and is routinely pulling in top rated players. Mac would be like Tony Bennett in a power conference---he's recruiting a lower rated kid, but one that plays defense above all else. That philosophy would work at TCU where they have never been any good at basketball (until right now). I thought I heard that Dixon may be on his way to retirement after this year, as well....or in the next couple years. That or he stays here for a long time. It'll be interesting to see how well we do in AAC, a much better bball conference even with UH and UC leaving. We need to see a legit rise in attendance and get back to where we were at the end of JJ's tenure at the very least---and then hopefully add another 1k to the average (we avg'd 4.5k the last couple of JJ years) with most conference games drawing closer to 7-8k. You could see a potential for a sellout when Memphis comes to town and maybe a couple others depending on how the records look at the time.

See below... I thought the guy did an awesome job raising the standard for our pregame performances. Those were legit best in class, or equivalent to it. The problem was that he changed what we had been doing in-game for the worse. Previously our band was much more consistently driving crowd noise---especially on 3rd downs. Since Cook got here he changed what the band did previously, which was pretty successful at getting me to yell on every defensive 3rd down, to something that didn't and then did that inconsistently. We need to be great at both pregame AND in-game. We have the best dang band in the county---or so we proclaim. It's time they live up to that consistently.

No, I don't, but I remember their comeback against the Oilers. People remember great games. That Michigan - TCU game was an all-time great game. Up there with the Boise - OU Fiesta bowl. Personally, I'll remember that game over the championship game because I flipped the channel at half-time. It was never an actual contest. Obviously, the record books will likely only track the championship game....and that score line will be repeated over and over. I agree with you there. Doesn't mean I won't remember that semi-final game more, though...because again, it was one of the most entertaining college football games ever.

They literally just beat the Big 10 champ last weekend. How does that fact get wiped out by last night? They got absolutely destroyed. I get it. But how do we know that Michigan, or anyone else, would have fared better? What will truly be used against them are the TV numbers from the game, and tickets sold. Did they bring fewer butts and eyeballs once the dust settles on the ratings? I'd love to see what the ratings were in the 1st quarter of this game. I'd be willing to bet there were a lot watching on TV. Especially from Texas. Also, once we go to 12 teams in the playoffs, there will be a higher likelihood that they'll earn one of those spots. Win games and you keep your reputation high enough to drive rankings.

I'd venture to guess that absolutely no tcu alums/fans are happy with getting to the championship and then getting their doors blown off in epic fashion. Why does UNT's history come into play here? If anyone knows what getting kicked in the balls feels like, it's us. I think if I put myself in their shoes and took that flying missile nut kick that they took last night....it would hurt pretty dang bad. It made me sick and I didn't really have a dog in the fight other than pulling for them as a "Texas team". Doesn't change the fact that they had a great season, but that was an absolutely terrible way to end it. I think FFR nailed it earlier in the thread. They absolutely got overwhelmed by the hype and bright lights, initially. They were out of position, couldn't get off blocks, couldn't make routine tackles. On offense they left Duggan in the pocket, rather than roll him out, run him, etc and he took an absolute beating for it. Then they never really adjusted. It wasn't just the players that played tight. So did their coaching staff. Georgia has more talent, coaching and experience and it showed up last night. I think we all knew that going in. We just expected TCU to fight back, even if they fell behind. None of that spirit that they showed in all those come from behind or close wins showed up last night. It's hard to come back when both of your lines are getting dominated...but I still expected to see more fight.

Pregame he improved quite a bit. In game he reduced substantially. All things told, in game matters more to me. Thank you for your service. Next please.

I would think tonight would be a vindication for their method. He just proved that what he started doing at smu really does work. I don't think tcu making it this far is good for anyone but the rich privates.

Breaking: KD Davis Tore ACL During Frisco Bowl
TIgreen01 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Just go back and watch his effort in that game…especially late fourth quarter, and on the play he got hurt on. KD was going all out trying to win that game. However meaningless the game is to you, it clearly mattered to him. Not everything is about money.- 53 replies

I don't see how a break away changes anything for the better. After this transfer portal with unlimited transfers mess opened, we now lose our best players to the P5s...and then we go grab guys from FCS and D2 to replace them. In the break away scenario we are the new FCS/D2. It won't stop the P5/break away schools from tampering/paying our best players to leave if THEY don't adopt rules to stop it at their new level. It's going to take an act of congress to change this and that isn't happening. So get used to it. Edit: I will add that the one rules change that does make sense to adopt are transfer windows. At least set some dates on the calendar when the free-for all whore fest is open for business. After it closes teams can be fairly certain about their roster for the year. We can't be worried about losing a KD Davis 2 weeks before Fall camp. This should be adopted YESTERDAY, but still is not....smh

Anyone else excited about the new FIU series?
TIgreen01 replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
What are you basing this on? Who is our QB next year?? We had Mason Freaking Fine in 2019. Hard to imagine our team next year being much better than anyone until we see what the roster will look like...especially at QB. -
Transfer TE expected to visit Hogs
TIgreen01 replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
To transfer from UNT to smu? I don’t get it. Why are they even on the list to consider? $$? I don’t believe for a second that Morris told him he wouldn’t have a place here. He’s one of the best players on our roster. -
Screw patience. Listen to the new head man himself. “It starts with winning.” Period
