Pass Act aims to protect athletes, 'integrity' of college sports
TIgreen01 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
You’ll have to excuse me, but Congress making federal laws around “college athletes” transferring is incredibly insane. Potentially sending a student athlete to jail over transferring schools?! You have got to be kidding me! Perhaps we should take a step back and find a way to take to money out of the game. That’s what this is all about, really. Money. Protecting the big rich schools who want to control their ability to make money off of these kids. -
I know they lost a bunch of talent at WR, but as long as Frank Harris keeps getting granted additional years of eligibility, they are going to be a problem to deal with. I'd have them at #1. Otherwise, a pretty safe bet putting us right in the middle. We have enough talent to compete, but how the new staff works out is too much of an unknown.
-
Honestly, why don’t they do this? Seems like they could schedule better. At least for football.
-
If we ever win, whatever acronym/logo/fully spelled out name/branding we are using at that time will be what we’re known as. Period. Why get all up in arms about crap that does not matter?! Offseason sucks
-
Considering recent history, why on earth would anyone doubt we can compete. Memphis will have a talented roster. They will have to overcome less than great coaching. FAU should be the early favorite. Memphis, based on talent alone, will be expected to either win or be runner up to FAU. I would expect most preseason predictions to put us somewhere near the middle just due to uncertainty around how our coaching staff will respond to the promotions and how the talented new guards will fit in with our historically grind it out style. Personally, I expect us to compete for a top 3 finish. Barring a slower than expected start, I'd still look for us to make some noise in the conference tournament. With the shooters we've just brought in, we're going to be everyone's nightmare matchup in a tournament bracket.

Has Recruiting Improved Under Morris? Yes

Lots of skill guys listed. When/where is the beef coming? -
SDSU sent letter to MWC asking to postpone exit deadline
TIgreen01 replied to outoftown's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm surprised Stanford is as undervalued as it seems from all this. They have historically been the best run athletic department in the country. One of the best funded (across all sports). They aren't perennial football powers but they usually are in/around Top 25. Maybe I'm missing something and they are the only ones left to even get that number into the $20 million range? Would really love to see the breakdown by school....even though that sort of thing never seems to be released to the public. -
Apologies for the attack....was in a mood yesterday after the Saudi takeover of pro golf. In general, I would trade places with Vandy, Wake Forest, Baylor, etc, in a second for a chance to be in one of these power conferences even if it means getting our rears handed to us regularly. In the past, when we were in completely terrible conferences that had ZERO teams even remotely close to competing for top 25 status, it made sense to want to try to do what Boise and TCU did---dominate weaker teams and try to play the easiest schedule possible. However, if given the opportunity to have legitimately competitive teams to play against, I take that 10 times out of 10. There is no substitute for playing against top competition in terms of bringing in interest and raising money. We may not be able to compete today, but we will eventually.

The more I think about it, the more disturbing it is to see this messaging coming from @TheReal_jayD If this is how our staff is thinking, already putting out excuses before they've played even a single down in a real game, we are in big trouble.

Tell this to everyone in the Big12 who has benefitted from being in the same conference with Texas and OU. YES!! Conference affiliation matters. I'd rather be in the conference with them while getting our butts kicked than not. Playing against good teams brings interest, which brings more casual fans that might turn into serious fans and donors. If we are always running from competition then why even compete in the first place?

Working here, absolutely fine. HOF, absolutely NOT. Take TP. If he were to make it in the pros, he's going to be listed as a Kansas State player/alum on every single bio that is shown from this point forward. He simply cannot be a UNT HOF player when he'll be known by everyone else as coming out of KSU. TP was awesome the past two years here for us, but he made a choice and left. The NIL is a reality now. However, the money KSU is paying him is his reward. You do have a choice. Stay and be immortalized in our HOF. Leave and take the money. You don't get both. We need to set our standards higher, and stop thinking small time.

Austin Aune- Atlanta Falcons Camp Invite
TIgreen01 replied to jtm0097's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm rooting for Aune to make it. I really am. Seems like a genuinely good dude and agree that he was always a classy ambassador for UNT. However... Stats are great, but why so many have a negative memory of him has more to do with watching the games and knowing that WHEN he threw an interception it very often cost us ball games; or turned games around in the other team's favor that we had been winning. What we can't say, at least those of us that are mere spectators, is whether all of those interceptions were his fault or the receiver's. Many looked like he just flat out missed accounting for a defender sitting on routes and threw balls right to them. I don't know that because I don't study the tape...but I think most casual fans see those kinds of plays and just blame the QB. At the end of the day, the team was a few plays away from being a 9+ win team last year and a multiple bowl game champ the last couple years...and the most memorable of those plays were bad interceptions. -
Footballscoop.com - Story on Grant Gunnell
TIgreen01 replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Definitely a cautionary tale. Interesting that every stop (from originally commitment to Tamu) was a step down in competition. -
College sports can suck my @ss right now. This sucks for UTSA and sucks for us losing shorter. Who actually wants this current state of constant tampering and transferring to be the new normal???
-
Agreed....and negative comments only posted after he commits somewhere else. Implying that we would have taken him back and kept all that bad teammate talk quiet.

What will UNT’s record be this year in FB?
TIgreen01 replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Mean Green Football
I’m somewhere in here. I think there is a real chance that the defense is a lot better, but that the offense is a lot worse. Doesn’t seem to jive with Morris’ history of usually fielding top offenses. Just having trouble seeing that based on the QB and oline play so far this spring. Maybe these guys will make a massive leap over the the few days, off-season and through fall camp. -
Sounds like Morris is still running with the 1s. So was it just last year, or also likely this year? I haven’t made it out there yet, so appreciate the reports and thoughts of those of you who have.

Coach Morris on the Transfer Portal
TIgreen01 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't understand offering so many courses online. I mean, I do...but what's the point of all this brick and mortar going forward if all (or a majority) of your classes are online? How will we get parents and students to fork over tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars for an education? Personally, I think online should be offered by technical and community colleges only. Brick and mortar, 4 year traditional colleges and universities should prioritize the in-person teacher access and specialized nuance to the education you get from their programs and professors. Maybe this belongs in the eagles nest, but I'd love someone to explain the strategy to me. If online courses are still granting access to teachers in the same way (which by way of watching my daughter take online college classes, I highly doubt) then what buildings do we need to provide in the future? Are dorms still a thing? If kids don't need to stay on or near campus, what happens to student life and all the activities to keep them busy (sports are part of this). Curious.... -
Who are our biggest future AAC rivals?
TIgreen01 replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Sadly I picked nutsak. I don't see schmoo sticking around long or I would've picked them. Obviously. In basketball it would be great to become rivals with Tulsa and Memphis. That would mean that we're still winning a lot of games and in the hunt for the conference championship more often than not. -
Sophomore DE, Cam Robertson, enters the portal
TIgreen01 replied to NorthTexasSportsNetwork's topic in Mean Green Football
Hurts to lose him, but this is one I expected after the new scheme/DC was announced. Good luck to him. He has a bright future.
