Question....what is keeping the NO Bowl from becoming a game between the Big 10 and Big 12? How is the Sun Belt staying in it?
-
I don't know, guys....who was the last 1st team all state defensive player we had? Booger? I know he was the damn 5a defensive player of the year. I'll take Padron. The other thing I'll take from this thread is the great quote from smu---now my sig. line....

Big 10 Commish The Largest Roadblock To A Playoff?
TIgreen01 replied to Eagle1855's topic in Mean Green Football
Agreed. I think what stalled it was that the Tulane President and his posse backed off when the BCS threw the table scraps out last year that allowed 2 more teams to make BCS games and eased back the final ranking a non-bcs team had to be to get in. I remember reading clips from Benson, the MVC commish and the Tulane president that said they were happy with what they got. Here's a decent story on it: BCS Sux -
Big 10 Commish The Largest Roadblock To A Playoff?
TIgreen01 replied to Eagle1855's topic in Mean Green Football
They do. The crux of the issue is covered in that article. It is simple. The regular season tv money is guaranteed to the conference b/c the conferences sign their own tv deals. The playoffs would be a shared pool of money that would be divided out based on the results of the playoff. Jim Delaney contests that adding a playoff would dilute interest in regular season games (something he cannot prove), thereby making it harder for the conferences to sign big money tv deals for regular season broadcasts. Put simply, it's a lose-lose deal for the power conferences in a playoff scenario unless they keep the playoff to just power conference teams. They'd simultaneously lose money from regular season broadcasts and increase their chances of not earning the big money in post-season play if their teams get knocked out early. I'd be interested in hearing what the Florida President's proposal is. After reading this, I really don't see why any of the big schools would be interested in a true playoff that is open to all conferences. -
I'm in! Thanks, Harry!

Still not in yet.

Honestly?...I don't see too much wrong with that post. We'd probably find similar stuff here if we just look back a couple of years. I know I've made similar remarks regarding ASU. Most of what he/she said was tongue in cheek anyways....

Maybe I'm missing something, but wasn't DeBerry under the gun last year for the comments he made to the media? I wonder if this AD wasn't already trying to get DeBerry out and just used his loyalty against him....had he tried to just out and out fire him, it probably wouldn't have gone over well with their alumni base. This way, he forces DeBerry's hand and IMHO, it looks more like a positive that Petersen was loyal to Air Force and DeBerry than just chasing money and being hired away. What was he making at Air Force as OC?

Please add me. Thanks for everyone's efforts!

Ding, ding, ding! It won't be long before espn shows her the door.....any idea on what her ratings are like? -
I'm gonna take a wild stab in the dark, Maverick (Marshall Mavericks?), and guess you're talking about Super Jamario. How would he fit in in TD's offense?...haven't really seen much of SLC, but would assume that someone like Evan Robertson would be a better fit as a quick scat back....what's the word from the people?...will Super Jamario return to form under TD??

Great post, Granny!

Where are these supposed "experienced" college assistants that some claimed he'd bring with him??

I wasn't around for any other hires other than DD and Todd Dodge. Hard to imagine a press conference announcing the new head football coach to go any better than this one did tonight. I have to say that I was nervous about hiring a HS coach, and still think we could have some growing pains this first year...but I'm totally sold that this is THE guy to get it done. I will be amazed if he's not hugely successful within the next 3 years. Lastly....my biggest impression is that we're going to have trouble keeping him here more than 3 years. He's got big-time (in a good way) written all over him. Get ready for an exciting few years!

This formula makes almost too much sense. I hate hearing all the pro-playoff people in the media talk about their format for a playoff b/c most of them only advocate an 8 team playoff....which is an absolute joke. Good work.

First Opponent in our New Stadium will be:

My vote is NMSU. We haven't lost to them in my lifetime...but Air Force would be cool if we could arrange a fly-by! -
Awesome! I'm glad to see the stadium and academics targeted in the same fundraising campaign. IMHO, there was no way we were going to be able to get the stadium without the other. Maybe this is a sign that depts all over UNT are starting to work better together??

Well....to be fair, he coached at my alma-mater a few years after I graduated....a school that has had 1 non-losing season in the last 15 years or so (Carr. Newman Smith). He coached that 1 season that wasn't a losing season. It's high school, I know....but this is Newman Smith we're talking about here!

Is RV hiring a coach for his benefit or ours
TIgreen01 replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
The sad part is that his posts are getting longer and are starting to resemble PMG's manifestos. Can the board handle TWO PMGs? -
This question should be posed to non-NT diehards....like my Dad. He'd laugh at the mention of the Hall of Fame. I suspect most people not associated with NT would, too. ...oh, and if you were able to find someone who would agree that DD should be in our HOF, break out a few press clippings...you know, of the "we have the worst situation in the conference" variety.
-
I was totally against hiring TD until reading this. Even still, how are we going to afford this staff?? Another thing (not related to this post) is that in one of the press releases surrounding DD's firing, a 500K base salary number came out. Was that a researched fact?--or bad reporting?...are we offering 500K for our next HC!?...or is that including all the assistant coaches? If the 500K figure is just for the HC, would that not make our HC the highest paid in the conference?

Nice!

See that's the craziest thing about the last few years. Simon was fired b/c he HATED the schedule and Helwig wouldn't make it any lighter for him. Simon didn't rant and rave in the media the way DD did, but DD didn't used to out and out complain about the schedule either---until recent times. DD was brought in and did nothing but beat the spread in every body bag game. The way the DD hire looked to most of us (until the bowl run started) was that DD was brought in to do nothing but play the paycheck games to earn some $$ for the AD and then try to build a decent team out of local recruits. Something changed in the last 2 years, though....we can't beat the spread to save our lives and we don't recruit well locally....

I'd bet that he becomes a high school coach soon. Not that that's a knock on him, but he's got family ties all around Houston. Remember back when we used to land top rated recruits from that city??...whatever happened to those days?
