  1. All I know is that if I gave a million dollars to UNT I'd have some strings attached as well. You think I'm just throwing that kind of money at this Athletic Department without some concrete assurances you are crazy. It's JM's money, if UNT didn't like the terms they could have turned it down.
  2. I am thinking about going. Lots of -ings, I know. I love me some Lafayette.
  3. Boise State did it against us back in 99 I believe. We had a one point lead and instead of taking a knee Dickey ran the ball and Boise let us score with about a minute to go. Then they went right down the field but fumbled around our 20.
  4. If it isn't bad, it's pretty darn close to being bad. MTSU- 7pts Troy- 10 pts FIU- 13 pts FAU- 16 pts ULM- 19 pts That's 5 Sun Belt games in which the offense didn't score 20 points. If that isn't bad, I'd like to know what it is.
  5. I only respond at all because you have called out those who were supposedly "negative" in the past and now I find it amusing that you are now posting things to what you in the past ridiculed. Dark cloud? Maybe. But I don't go around kidding myself or others that this program will reach better heights just because so-so said this or I heard this from some un-named person. Or certainly not because one man did it for a couple of years than moved on thirty years ago. Hell, using that logic UTEP should win another BBall national championship any day now. "BTW, all of that that you criticized "meanrob style" was a theoretical scenario so I guess you might say that there really is no source or person at all." Not sure what that means, you are the one who said a TV commentator said UNT was top 25 program in the making. But I do believe the second half of that statement. By the way, being ranked doesn't mean you are a top 25 program. If that were the case Fry never would have left. It means that for that week a bunch of writers or coaches think you are that number team for the week. Last week UTEP was ranked, Tennessee was not. Are you telling me that UTEP is a better program than UT? You sell hope without substance, hate to tell you but eventually somebody has to provide the substance. Cerebus is the high judge. I am merely a jester in the court of public opinion. And only a part-time jester at that.
  6. As usual no facts in your posts, just a bunch of "I heard this from....(insert _____ because no one is ever quoted directly) Anybody, and I mean ANYBODY who thinks this is a top 25 program waiting to happen is either stupid or very ignorant. Or blowing smoke, take your pick. We're not even a top 75 program at this point and not anywhere near top 50. Not at the infrastructure level, the attendance level, fundraising level, or any level other than our location. And I would say we have even failed at taking advantage of that. Please don't give me this crap about FSU or Miami or a couple of other schools that once were doormats but grew into powers. That was a very different time. In the speed of light you went from complaining about the negativity to jumping right on board, yet nowhere do I see you acknowledging that those who weren't "it's all green and all good" may have been right in the first place. Is that possible? I'd say, if you think DD is the only problem, you are indeed setting your goals too low. rob
  7. I've seen the tape of that game. That crazy interception returned for a score totally changed the momentum. But it still wasn't as good as the 30-27 game.
  8. So two of our OOC wins are basically over Sun Belt teams. That's even sadder. The other ones with "Rob" comments- Northern Illinois- They went 1-10 that year and lost to Western Illinois in the process. Their only win.....over Ark State. We won that game by three and got extremely lucky when NIU fumbled near our goal line and we ran the ball all the way back for a score. Texas Tech (2X)- not much to say, two of the greatest victories I've ever witnessed but the 30-27 game was about as good as it gets. Probably one of the best games of any kind that I've seen. 4th and 14?? Unbelievable. Baylor- Great game at Fouts but to be honest I expected us to blow them out. They were horrible and it showed. Oregon State- What a scrappy game by basically a I-AA team that we fielded. We were down in the fourth but fought back and won in the last seconds. Cincy- Great game, would've been nice if somebody from Cincy would have been there.
  9. WHAT?!? We've only won 8 I-A OOC games since returning to I-A? Good grief....see if I can name them. Oregon State Texas Tech (2X) Northern Illinois ULL (worst frickin game ever) Baylor Cincy? I'm at a loss for the last one if the Cincy game was included.
  10. Just from looking back at some of the OOC games in the Big West, here are some teams the BW beat from 96-01. Arizona State Texas Tech (2X) Utah (3X) UNLV (3X) Washington State (2X) Southern Miss Louisville New Mexico (3X) plus a couple of wins over UTEP and MAC schools. I might even be missing a few more wins and there were some real close calls against other BCS teams that BW teams lost by fewer than 7 points. Off the top of my head the victories of Sun Belt teams are- Vandy (3X?) Missouri (thanks IP eagle) Cincy Baylor and a couple of wins over MAC teams. I could be wrong but that is all I could think of. I also could be wrong but I can only remember one loss to a I-AA team by Big West teams. I think there have been at least 5 by Sun Belt teams. Actually I was wrong on the above about I-AA losses. The Big West lost at least 5 games to I-AA opponents. Boise lost two in 96 and Idaho lost a few along the way too. Plus Arkansas State lost to Richmond while members of the Big West....hehe. Still overall, the Big West was better.
  11. The Big West was a better conference. The Idaho team that won the champ beat a pretty good USM team. Going into Nevada, Idaho, Utah State or Boise State was much tougher than going into SBC teams' home stadiums. Was it a lot better? No, but it was better. Check out some of the OOC victories that some of the Big West teams had and then compare that to SBC OOC victories. Would I rather be in the SBC? No doubt about it. Going to an away game in the Big West was a nightmare. It wasn't just Boise, Ark St fan. Across the board, the Big West from 96-00 was better than the SBC from 01-05. Then again, not sure it matters a hill of beans anyway.
  12. Sounds like more of a money issue than an alcohol issue. Selling it inside the stadium is the stupid idea because then people can just keep on drinking. But they wouldn't want to piss off the vendors.
  13. As I remember if Idaho had lost we would have won the conference because three teams would had tied at 3-2 and for some reason we held the tie-breakers. That game went into overtime and Idaho took a chance and went for two after they had answered Boise's TD in overtime. Wild game. That USU game was a killer that year. Half of the highlight video for that year came from that game and somehow we managed to lose it, even though some crazy stuff happened, like the last field goal really looking like it was no good. The monsoon game was fun too, I was tired of being Nevada's whipping boy. If I ever became AD I would wait until it looked like we would have a really good team and try to get a game with Nevada. Then I'd give the boys the biggest pep-talk ever given and tell the coach to do his best to score 100. It would be better if it was on the road because then I'd flip off the whole stadium and finally the taste of 77-0 would be removed.
  14. There was a four year period where we couldn't beat Idaho and that killed me to no end. That's why the victory in 2001 was so sweet. 1997 30-17 Idaho 1998 41-23 Idaho (they beat USM in the Boise Bowl and this was a good Idaho team. 1999 28-10 Idaho 2000 16-14 Idaho (killer last second drive and field goal at Fouts) 2001 50-27 UNT (monkey off our back) Anybody remember what was so bizarre about the 1998 season and what happened in Idaho's last game that might have created a crazy scenario for UNT and the Big West?
  15. Not so much. I'm pretty sure the Mean Green Room was pre-RV. Then again, I'm pretty sure you aren't.
  16. Sorry but I can't pull specific things here and there out of a 56-3 loss. I did that after the MTSU game (and that was a win) and then we went out and got mauled the next game. I want to see positives this week. If I was Bustle I'd run all day and make us stop the run. Basically if the other team doesn't make mistakes, we are very beatable.
  17. I'm almost positive in case of a tie the NO Bowl picks the rep. No tiebreakers.
  18. Went to high school at Torrance High, had a blast in the South Bay, learned to surf at Hermosa Pier. Almost drowned at El Porto. ahh, those were the days. If you could put a surfable beach next to Denton I would be in heaven. Oh yeah, and f' Palos Verdes. hehe
  19. Not to downplay Deloach too much but here's what he had to work with- Cody Spencer Booger Kennedy Jonas Buckles Mike Pruitt Taylor Casey Chris Hurd Craig Jones Adrian Awasome M Knowlton Evan Cardwell that's a pretty good group to stack a defense with.
  20. The last time we went down there that LSU team went 3-8 that year. We lost 52-0. I bet the farm.....the cows and the chickens too.
  21. Sorry but if it was logo on a jersey maybe I'd be more inclined to agree but i never wore nikes growing up and playing sports. I always thought they were too narrow for my feet. I think what is sorry is that you can't even wear what shoes you want to wear anymore.
  22. I guess we'll find out how we match up in a couple of weeks.
  23. Name me one team that is going to win consistently by rushing for about 3 yards per rush. I knew this was going to be long year and yes the turnovers killed us last night but what gets me the most was not the failings of the new players or even the returning starters but in the opportunities to make something happen, the coaches who have been here a long time, failed. Third and four at midfield and what we need more than anything is a first down and to keep the chains moving and give our defense some rest. And both receivers run deep patterns. The goalline sequence was abysmal. We have few plays to pick up the first down on intermediate situations. It's either deep or 2 yd patterns. We got very lucky that Troy turned over the ball and missed a couple of easy field goals. THe players might get better but sooner or later it would be nice to outcoach somebody too. I'm not asking for anybody to get fired, I'm just saying the coaching staff needs to step it up too.
  24. I guess it's too much to ask for a coach to adapt to a change in his talent.
