from behind the fence? sorry my mistake. still.....not impressed. messenger....shot.

I think it says a lot that what i'm reading is a bunch of reasons/excuses of why the game was so lackluster instead of reading about how certain individual players looked. I always thought the spring game was practice under "game" conditions, not a show off session for the fans or a way to get a football fix. Either way, it failed on both counts.
-
You do know April fools was earlier this week? I'll keep my thoughts on that statement to myself until i know if that is true or not.
-
Hate to be the negative nancy but besides the defense looking a bit better, i saw few signs of improvement. The intensity of the whole thing, or lack of, was amazing. One touchdown for a spring game, for an offensive team? When a fan isn't allowed to watch practices, all i can go by is what i see during games and/or spring games. And from what i saw today, this team has a long way to go.

Usual rant from someone new to the board. If you don't like the board, don't read it. Simple as that. If you don't expect bitching after the 2 seasons we just had, then you ain't a fan, you're a relative. Get real, we went 1-11. If Dodge wants a trophy just for trying, then i suggest T-ball. Otherwise quit bitchin at the fans for the problems of this program. If a message board is the reason we're struggling, we got bigger problems than we all thought. By the way, nice rant.....but i didn't see you leave your name.

In usual "you just never know" recruiting, Cory was supposed to be the stud and Fred was just thrown in the deal. Fred ended up being all-conference (2nd team?) and Cory was the throw in. Which is why i leave recruiting up to the...."experts".

If Vizza goes elsewhere and succeeds, good for him. I just don't see that happening at the I-A level. My question to you and others is.....what did Vizza do to make you think he is a good quarterback or will be successful elsewhere? If you go by yards, he ranked second in the Sun Belt. If you go by any other QB stat he was near the bottom. I think it's been so long since we had a legitimate QB and a passing game that we flipped out over a QB that threw over 200 yards a game. I just think we can do better.
-
I don't know about comparisons but i do know Vizza was not very good at the long ball. He put way too much air underneath it. And just looking at the sunbelt stats, Vizza was next to last in efficiency and had by far the worst td/int ratio. Sure you can make stats look a variety of ways but in my opinion he just did not show any improvement from year one to two. In fact i thought he got worse. How much of that is on Dodge's shoulders? At least some, after all he is the coach. Not trying to drag Vizza through the mud, I have been saying this in our circle since about halfway thru the year. Sure he didn't have a whole lot to work with but too many times i saw him make bad throws/decisions even when he had the time. If he proves me wrong, so be it. Just saying what i saw and what i saw was not a good IA quarterback, even for the sun belt.
-
If Vizza wants to transfer, so be it and good luck to the kid. This surely doesn't look good on Dodge. However from a purely playing standpoint, i don't think it's that big of a hit. In my opinion Vizza is not a legitimate starting Div IA quarterback. Not saying that we have one in Riley, in fact i have serious doubts about his abilities at this level too but Vizza just made too many bad plays. And i'm not sure that toughness makes a great leader. Compare him to other sun belt qbs and id take just about every other sun belt qb over him. Would he have improved with time? Maybe but that's not a given. Flame away!

Look, i know we're bad. Hell everyone knows we are bad. How about some insight into why we are so bad or where we go from here. Or ask the coach that. Wow, newsflash.....we're bad.

Buying A Daily Ad To Support The Stadium Vote
meanrob replied to rcade's topic in Mean Green Football
those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. let the students decide. outside influence didn't help at all last time. -
I can also list the teams who have lost to I-AAs. Many have gone to bowl games the past couple of years. Does it hurt that year? Probably, but i doubt there are long term effects. Not sure why we have to prove anything. We have to win ballgames, period.
-
Foolish? really? Do you want me list the schools that schedule I-AAs? It's a who's who of college football. Nothing wrong with scheduling I-AAs. It blows my mind that just about every big time football program in america schedules below themselves but we at UNT are always supposed to schedule above us.

Not surprised that it was a tough game, everyone knew that. He sounds surprised that what he wants to do isn't working. Big difference.
-
Is Todd Dodge genuinely surprised at the results of the first two games? If he's just acting that way because as head coach he can't publicly say how overmatched we are, that's one thing (although that never stopped DD). However if he's truly surprised how overmatched we were, then we have a problem. It's one thing for a coach to know or say his team could've played better. It's absolutely another thing to act as though he's not sure why we got beat so bad. I can't figure out which one Dodge his, I hope the former. It's going to take time under any coach and system, I understand that. But deep down i gotta know that the coach knows what he's doing and where he's going and i haven't exactly figured that out with Dodge yet. Then again, losing makes one question everything. On to LSU......ugh.
-
what to expect? how about two wins and a lot of frustration. in all honesty this is pretty much how the dickey regime started and things got better. however i don't remember those years being good for my mental health. i picked a hell of a time to stop....(insert vice here)
-
no other way to put it. i thought we'd lose by 30 but doesn't really matter because we could've lost by 50. defense lacks talent and experience, ok. offense lacks same but scheme doesn't help out. already tired of 3-5 yd patterns. some coaches can do more with less. i was hoping dodge was one of those. that's not the case so i hope we can all be patient because we are 2-3 years from being good.
-
I'm not about to jump off a ledge. However, in some of those games you mentioned i saw some positives, plus a lot of the players on those teams were proven commodities who were just playing very good teams. Especially in 2003 and 2004. Can't really compare about how i felt walking out after the 27-0 loss at UT and how i felt after leaving on Saturday. When you can't stop an average big 12 team AND can't move the ball on them until the game is out of reach, well that's another story. We are playing a pretty good team this weekend, however i expect improvement.

Benson Says Nt Still Has Standing Invite
meanrob replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
tired of people saying this but back when they had the chance they didn't do it. i went to nevada and i went to boise and i can count on one hand the fans not related to the players who were there. oh yeah, didn't see you at the arizona state game either. hell, until we got good no one even made the trip to nmsu. we are in the sun belt, either support it or bitch about it on message boards. there, at least i gave you and out. and seriously, if you can't have fun at ulala, you just can't have fun. -
please turn the sarc back on. please.

i think Mosely can be solid in short yardage situations but we are nowhere near settled at RB.

i don't know what vote you are talking about. the last vote had nothing to do with fouts or student parking. the AD pushed it as a vote to upgrade facilities (not football) and get us title 9 compliant. and if you asked me, last time the AD and others did too much. instead of quietly letting the vote come, people put ads in the paper and advertised it. too much promotion was done. tired of saying this but the student body was and/or is not anti-athletics. less than or around 10% of the student body population voted. if i remember right about 1200 voted against it, out of a student population of around 30k. the student body might be apathetic, but to characterize it as anti-athletics is wrong. in the end, the failure of the athletic department to raise enough funds to get this project off the ground is what is killing us. not saying doing that would be easy but i would rather see us use the student fees to get the project finished, not started.
-
that didn't work last time. in fact a "student campaign" did nothing but make the students who were against the fee come out and vote. the last vote was completely and utterly embarrassing. either pass the fee or don't. if you want to leave it up to the students then respect the vote. don't leave it in the students hands and then pass the fee anyway when it gets voted down.

do we have to go back there?? i mean seriously....damn.
