  1. Hate to tell you this, but we DO have a problem. In today's college football, freshmen play all the time. Even at QB. If he's the best, play him. You guys drive me crazy. You say we have to win now but want to stash players for tomorrow. Y'all make up y'all's mind.
  2. I think the fact that DT, a two year starter and a senior, can't even seperate from McNulty says it all. One day the Quarterbacking gods will smile upon us. One day.
  3. Never been a huge fan but the guys are cool and I support just about anything Denton. They are playing the Airwaves fest in Iceland in Nov. Went last year, it's a blast. From what I remember.
  4. Ok never mind my thoughts from the other thread. I'm rooting for Dajon, growing pains be damned.
  5. In your experience at North Texas when has a quarterback had a mediocre previous year, mediocre spring, get lukewarm praise from the coach, and then have a great year? I'm not rooting for or against anyone in the QB battle, but nothing has happened so far for me to think much has changed.
  6. If anybody is surprised by this.....
  7. The games against Idaho were always tough including a few heartbreaking losses. I expect the game to be within ten points. We were 4-8 last year with a tepid offense. I'll take a W and move on to the next week.
  8. "You can't stand the truth!"?
  9. I see him more as a Tyler Helwig.
  10. So all of you who predicted the scouts would see thru the coaching and said Tony would show his true self at the draft workouts still blame Benford?
  11. Pardon me if I find it a little amusing a lot of you think throwing money at education won't solve the problem but throwing money at North Texas Athletics will. Carry on.
  12. Trying to go to Dublin this summer to finish a book. Never thought I'd be saying this but yes I'm doing a Kickstarter. Here's the link if interested in supporting- http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/797894602/871430700 Moderators, if this is violating GMG codes or ethics you can do your due diligence. Rob

  13. Where do you live/family: Southern California (after 15 years in denton) Single and mobile Degree/Year attended/graduated UNT: the 90s/ no degree (so close too) Favorite NT Memory: Fry St fairs and music scene, breakfast at Jim's diner after a long night, living so cheap next to Fry St. all the great people I met Favorite NT Sports Memory: Many to choose from but has to be the Texas Tech game in 1997, I was an emotional wreck after that game. Keith and I ran onto the field but didn't know what to do once we got down there. Also the first year of the old MGC. Didn't know that so many people were like me and lived and died Mean Green. Everybody pitched in and we had some great tailgates. At Baylor was probably the best, man that was fun. Sure, we've had more losses than wins and nobody wants to win more than me but all the people I've met, conversations and debates had, and great times (the ones I can remember) have made it all worth it. Will be even better when the ship gets turned around. This board can be dumb (my posts included) but don't regret going to UNT or being a Mean Green fan. I'll probably move back to Denton some day and hope to be the old guy that goes to every game of every sport. GMG.
  14. I only put those stats in there to show that QBs with similar stats don't mean the QBs have similar results. Believe me, I'm not saying DT is anywhere near Klein. I'm skeptical but I hope DT proves me wrong this year.
  15. Another article from Vito that doesn't really say much. As someone said, winning the quarterback battle doesn't mean anything. My issue is not with DT playing quarterback. My issue is if he has another mediocre 4-6 games to start the year will Mac pull him and go with someone else the rest of the year? If not, our QB position is doomed for a long time. For what it's worth, DT threw for only 15 yards less than Collin Klein and had only two less touchdowns. Klein was a Heisman finalist, DT was a less than average Sun Belt QB.
  16. Do we have a quarterback yet?
  17. I never said accept losing. I said stick to a plan. I'm as frustrated as anybody with the losing. It sucks, no doubt about it. I know other teams have had success quickly but Mac isn't that kind of coach. At least nothing I've seen shows that he's that kind of coach. If you want to bring up basketball, by that thinking JJ should have been gone after year three. We were bad in year three, why think anything would change in year six? In year three we were under .500, in year six we went to the tourney with 23 wins. You can pull your "you're what's wrong with UNT card" all you want. It's a favorite move of yours. Why don't you actually look at the football roster and tell me why we're going to win now. Because "We have to!" doesn't sack a quarterback or complete a third down pass.
  18. I know we need more than just better play from the QB position to get better but..... I'm stunned that anyone could watch Thompson last year and think we're ok at quarterback. He had two good games, a few okay games and the rest bad to horrible games. He had horrible games against TSU and South Alabama. Three of his worst games were at home. We won two of those because the competition was so bad. I don't get it.
  19. Or what? He gets fired and we start over? We stop going to games? Apogee collapses into a pile of rubble? If we lose this year, nothing happens. Treating this year as all or nothing won't get us a better record this year. But playing a lot of youngsters might make us better down the road. Dodge's last class included a lot of JUCOs so most of that class is gone. You're saying that a coach has to win with RS Sophmores? That first class was recruited late in the game. Which means we've had one regular class last year and an incoming class this year. We've had 3 winning seasons in eighteen years of FBS football and now we expect to win in year three? That ain't happening. Yeah, I expect that Mac's fourth recruting class would be better than his first. But his first two classes were average Sun Belt classes at best and to expect us to win with that talent is just unreasonable. Especially with a below average quarterback. Has a coach won within three years before? Absolutely. I'm just not expecting it here. Certainly not after watching this team last year. If we had the talent I'd be singing a different tune but we don't. We can't rush the quarterback and get below average play out of the quarterback. If Mac can win with that, he really is a genius.
  20. We haven't had a winning record in almost 10 years. At this point, rebuilding takes as long as it takes. The second one isn't a reason, it's desperation. Winning now because we want to isn't much of a plan. Especially when we don't have the horses.
  21. Why does he need to win this year? Apogee isn't going anywhere. Neither is CUSA. So why the pressure to win this year? We need to find out who can play over the next 2-4 years, not just for one year. I'm not advocating sitting seniors but the younger players need to play this year. I think there is no pressure to win this year. I'm not worried about the fickle fan base we have jumping ship. There's really no point to going 6-6 this year if we fall back to 4-8 next year. This year should be managed with the eye on the future. I'm more worried about the coaching staff being patient rather than the fan base being impatient.
  22. Chase Corley, LaDarrin McLane, the guy currently doing time, (good gawd I'm getting depressed....)
  23. By the way, I can't remember the kid's name but Harry hyped up the athletic quarterback we had in this past recruiting class. Throw him into the mix. There have been numerous true freshman QBs the past few years. I think Utah State had one two years ago from Texas who did just fine. I got Big Bird on speed dial if necessary, he's got two years of eligibility left.
  24. I could care less who the quarterback is, it could be Big Bird, but are you serious? He's supposed to be a team player, he's supposed to do what the coaches ask of him, he's supposed to work hard, he's the starting quarterback for f's sake. He's also a below average Sun Belt quarterback for a team that hasn't had a difference maker at quarterback since Mitch Maher. Even if you want to place that label on Scott Hall, and I don't, that was 10 years ago. Wow, he's polite. Good for him. Right now this program doesn't need nice guys who throw at the feet of receivers or through the back of the end zone and certainly can't make plays with his feet. We need a difference maker at quarterback. If that is DT then great, but so far he has been below average. In the Sun Belt. Period. Did you guys even watch what Ryan Aplin did to us the past few years? Derek Thompson isn't even in the same stratosphere as Aplin. I can't believe we're talking about how nice our quarterback is. We're gonna suck forever.
  25. Fall camp is about 3 1/2 weeks long. Perhaps that is enough time for Brock to get ready for the season but it would have been nice if he would have showed some of the things he can do in the spring. Call me chicken little if you want, but if we don't get above average quarterbacking against Idaho, we could lose that game.
