Got no problem playing an FCS game at home but be upfront about the strategy. If it is in fact a strategy.

C-USA Fundraising totals for 2013-14

Again, it's easy to point a finger and say "they did it, let's use their way" or "they found a good AD". But to me that's the lazy way and certainly not the best way for us. We need a model that fits our situation. And all of Arkstfan's good points aside, new suites can raise money but they can't complete a big third down pass. I want a guy that can run an ATHLETIC department.
-
I hear you Arkstfan and I agree with your assessment of what presidents look for but.... At our level we're not getting an AD well versed in all the aspects of both sports and fundraising. So give me a sports guy/deal sealer at the top and have a fundraising guy at number two. Because more often than not the business guy will not get the sports side right. Then you're screwed.

Good dude. Good coach. Great class. Guess you don't know the mess Trilli left behind. Mess isn't a strong enough word.

Took nc state because they were playing well at the end of the year and don't fully trust JJ in situations like this. glad to be wrong.

I'm talking about it coming from higher up the food chain.

Is it too much to ask that we create the "UNT model" that not only works for us but other schools want to emulate? Tired of us looking everywhere else for everything.
-
I doubt a 17yr old kid chooses not to go to UNT due to apathetic alumni. I seriously doubt apathetic alumni is the reason several of Mac's classes haven't panned out. We shouldn't be crying poor here. Our budget is mid to upper half CUSA. I'd say our facilities are definitely upper half. Our results are....

If it were up to me I'd say forget attendance, forget marketing, forget everything and spend every available penny on coaches and recruiting budgets. Who gives a crap about a billboard on I-35 when we can't get a quarterback or keep (or in this case, get rid of) coaches. RV doesn't need to go because he's doing a bad job. RV needs to go because he's doing the wrong kind of job for what UNT needs.

Yeah let's keep rehashing events of 38 years ago. Might as well say you're ok with the direction of the football program because we beat Tennessee.
-
You can't compare Boise with Denton. In any catagory (population, demographics, income, employment....etc) they are completely different. You can add coaching hires to that list too. The solutions to UNTs problems have to come from within the university, athletic department and administration. Not the city of Denton or other outside forces. This thing needs to be completely rethought and reworked. And no we don't need to waste money on Gene Stallings to do it.

Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the good ol days as much as I should have.

So we still suck?

Can't edit from my phone so here's two additional thoughts- "sad" is the wrong word. More like tough. Off the top of my head I would guess there have been at least 50 mid major programs over the last 25 years who have had at least one season that gets over my "humps". I know almost all the MAC teams have. No reason why we can't. I'm not 100% certain our record was 13-5 that year. If anybody has the time I'd love to know what our best record and finish in conf play has been over the last 30 years.

I was enjoying this thread til the name calling started. Obviously with the events of the last three years I should've enjoyed JJs time here more and definitely should give him more credit then I did at the time. However.....he never gave me either of the "humps" I really wanted and I don't think either one was too much to ask. One was a dominant conference season and we never came close to that. We did have a three way for the best record in the conference one year but at 13-5 I think that was very good night great. Plus you can't be the dominant team when you tie for the title. The other year we went to the tourney we were third in our division. The other was a decent seed and a competitive game in the NCAAs. KSU demolished us and we only gave Memphis half a game. Also, if JJs team his last year was so good, how'd the hell did we lose to a .500 team in the final. That loss still irks me. I know, I know, these achievements seem light years away now but I gotta be honest. I've been a UNT fan for 20+ years and if the JJ reign is as good as UNT BBall will get in my lifetime (and the JJ era doesn't even have any competition for being the best era the last 35? years) what a sad program to follow this will have been. By the way, I know by all accounts we should have been Sun Belt reg season champs that year but if you don't count that year, we haven't been the regular season champs in any league in at least 25 years. Besides that one year I don't think we've even been close. Good grief.....

Louisiana Tech schedules P5 at home in 2021
meanrob replied to 10Eagle10's topic in Mean Green Football
People won't take UNT football seriously until we win consistently. One (maybe two) halfway sexy home games over a five year stretch isn't going to change that. But hey, it's your hot air. -
Who Writes This Stuff for the A.D.?
meanrob replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
At least they didn't call us "NUT" like a previous UNT SID. -
I don't have Portland State as sure win. This season scares the hell out of me. Could be 6-6, could be 1-11.
-
Man, it really is the offseason...

No but he can build a football program by himself and he's yet to show he can do that. I was on board when Mac was hired and I said unless he was a disaster I'd give him seven years to get this thing on solid ground and entering year five I have a lot of concerns. Quit bitching about a fan base that has always been fickle to say the least and get a quarterback. Or a DLine. Or a better offensive scheme. And if Mac didn't know the challenges of taking a Sun Belt/CUSA job, that's his fault. Nobody at this level has it easy.
