No to Applewhite. Already did the former UT QB experiment.

MGB: Sounds like Smith is going to get his shot
meanrob replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
No I don't get some of you guys. The athletic program is probably at its lowest point in terms of competitiveness in its history and some of you want to put a band-aid on a bleeding open wound.- 61 replies

UNT donors have really stepped it up; we must as well
meanrob replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I stopped giving to UNT Athletics for a specific reason and until that reason is gone, I won't give. I'm out of state so it's not up to me to tell people whether they should go to the games or not but it damn sure isn't anybody's place to tell people they should give their hard earned money just because a mistake was corrected. Firing one coach doesn't change the culture or the problem HELL, did they have any other choice after that debacle yesterday? -
......no use wasting my breath or energy anymore. This is not the fans, not the stadium, not money, not the offensive coordinator, not the players, not a message board, not the quarterback, not the conference, not the culture, and nothing to do with previous coaches. This is this head football coach. Period.

They, like us, have spun off the road. The question is how hard will it be to get the car out of the ditch?

Who would your candidates be for AD?

I'm hopeful, I give it 50% -
Who would your candidates be for AD?
meanrob replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
Didn't need to be fixed. A good AD/leader would do that. I know you want change and I completely agree with you but if/when there is a change I hope you let the new person do their job and not harp and sins of the past. This is a mess and will take a little time and a lot of effort to fix it. -
Who would your candidates be for AD?
meanrob replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
I hear what you're saying Rick but I think a very good AD solves a lot of the first issues just by being good at his job and delegating to others to fix such problems.I don't want the AD dealing with Boomer, ticket issues, or band problems. All that should be handled by an Asst AD reporting to the AD. We need our guy dealing with bigger issues. Secondly, there will always be some acrimony between athletics and academics, You can't get everyone to buy in. Lastly, we need a Prez and AD completely in sync with each other. They can't be on separate islands. He should know the culture here though. This place is a different animal. -
I'm a believer in trends but..... Good to see those results though.

Only if you're pushing it.

MGB: Weekly Q&A, this time with Patrick Magee of the Sun Herald
meanrob replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
"not very favorably" You don't say. -
Yes, in my opinion dumb and not effective. Best thing would be to let this play out the way we all thing it will, coordinate a writing campaign, and try to show strength in numbers. At UNT I think even a small amount of people showing their smart and coordinated disgust will make a difference. And if the President chose to ignore it or not give an honest answer/assessment, then we as fans have a decision to make. I'm all about ruffling feathers, but in this case you gotta try change from within first.

Study on the effects of firing a losing coach - not good!
meanrob replied to VideoEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Ah damn, we shouldn't have fired Dodge....I mean Dickey....no Simon.......er Parker........Corky...... -
Actually he said- "if you are unhappy about the situation we find ourselves in then by all means voice that opinion." Might want to take that reading comprehension course again. Not your first offense.

I don't know about all that but I sure picked a bad week to stop drinking. Kidding, good post Harry but I do have my pen, paper, and stamp ready.

In case anyone else is missing my point. When we beat NMSU in front of 800 people at Fouts (yes, about 800) and Helwig bragged he would never get fired I was furious but never thought about writing the president. Thankfully the next prez pulled the trigger. When we were routinely getting our butt kicked by Idaho (yes kiddos, Idaho used to spank us every year) I was pissed but never wrote a letter. Same for the embarrassing losses over the years (frankly, there's too many to list them all) I've never thought about it. Now.....definitely thinking about it. There's nine games left and I'll see how it plays out (I have no hope) but with the current head coach and AD situation it's probably time for my voice to be heard and I've heard from a few others who are in the same boat. As a UNT fan you get used to the roller coaster but I'm with others, the tools are there and it's not getting done. I was solely commenting on how the anger is different this time. "Get over it." Hardly.

Oy vey.

I watched the entire game. Mistakes killed them. If they don't turn the ball over against us, we're in deep trouble.
-
Thought the same thing, now not so sure.
-
Yeah, but you gotta admit that was a helluva way to go out.
-
Beats me. After 22 years I've seen plenty come and go and usually the loudest end up going.
-
I agree. Just curious from the old timer's perspective have they ever seen it this bad before?
-
I've been a hardcore fan for 22 years and I've seen a lot of anger and venom after bad losses, feelings of hopelessness after long seasons, calls for coaches to be fired, and a lot of people throw up their hands and give up. But I've never seen the torch and pitchfork rhetoric going on now. Some of it coming from people I wouldn't expect it from. Not a complaint, just an observation. And that's saying something after 22 years of following this mostly losing athletic program.

You do know Gary Patterson lost to an FCS team right?
